Mit fortschreitender Verbreitung der digitalen Fotografie werden auch sogenannte Fotobücher immer beliebter. Hierbei stellt der Kunde mittels geeigneter Software aus ihm vorliegendem Bildmaterial einen Bildband in elektronischer Form zusammen und schickt diesen an ein Fotolabor. Dort werden die einzelnen Seiten des Bildbands auf fotografisches Trägermaterial (Fotopapier) belichtet und entwickelt und dann zu einem Fotobuch montiert. Das Leporello-Verfahren ist prinzipiell auch für die Herstellung von Fotobüchern vorteilhaft, es existieren aber noch keine geeigneten Verleimungsvorrichtungen, die den in der Fotobranche üblichen Anforderungen genügen würden. Aus Wirtschaftlichkeitsgründen muss die Produktionsleistung der Verleimungsvorrichtung nämlich sehr hoch sein, beispielsweise etwa in der Grössenordnung 4000 Buchseiten pro Stunde entsprechend 100 Fotobüchern zu je 40 Seiten. Eine weitere Komplikation ergibt sich aus den Materialeigenschaften des Fotopapiers, weil es zu dessen Verleimung eines speziellen Heissklebers bedarf. Bekannte Verleimungsvorrichtungen sind entweder nicht für die Verarbeitung von Heissklebern eingerichtet oder haben konstruktionsbedingt nicht die geforderte Leistungskapazität.The so-called Leporello method is a well-known bookbinding method, in which folded double sheets are glued together with the image-bearing sides together to form a stack.
