- the present invention relates to an ice maker for a refrigeration appliance. More particularly, it relates to an ice maker comprising a frame adapted to be mounted in the refrigeration appliance, an ice-making container supported by the frame, and an ice-releasing system for separating the formed ice from the ice-making container.
- US2006/086135 A1 describes an ice maker for refrigerators provided with a cover hinged to water container, which is forced to an open position when water is filled and which rests in a closed position until ice is formed. When the cover is closed the ice maker becomes a water tight container.
- Ice makers are well known in the technical field of domestic refrigeration appliances. They are usually installed on a wall of a freezing chamber of the refrigerator (freezer) and therefore they are not subject to movement which could cause spill of water when ice is not already formed in the ice-making container or ice tray.
- This traditional construction has the drawback of requiring means for conveying ice cubes from the ice maker in the freezing chamber into a storage container in the door of the refrigerator where the user can collect ice from the outside through an ice dispenser.
- the traditional location of ice makers requires an automatic water supply device which increases the overall cost of the appliance.
- No appliance producer has up to now proposed a mounting of the ice maker in a door of the freezer, mainly because the movement of the door during opening and closing thereof could cause water spill from the ice maker when the ice is not already formed.
- the base 12 contains a drive unit and can be mounted in a cantilevered way to a wall of a door of the freezer compartment of the refrigerator (not shown).
- the ice-making container 14, which is fixed to the base 12, has an a semi-circular or half moon cross section and is formed of metal or polymeric material.

- any movement of the ice maker 10 caused by the movement of the door where it is preferably installed does not cause any spill of water since the internal surface of the tile-shaped cover 16 is in contact with the edges of the tile-shaped container 14.
- the cover 16 is rotated along arrow R, under the ice-making container, and the lever 18 is rotated as well in order to remove ice cubes from the container 14.
- the movement of the lever 18 and of the cover 16 can be made independent one from the other as well.
- the cover 16 is intended to house ice tray and provides a seal so that if non-iced water is present when the icemaker is moved, no water spill occurs.
- the shape of the cover 16 ensures that when it rotates, any ice formation due to water sprinkled by movement is removed from the housing.
- the ice maker cover 16 is designed so that ice maker can be placed in areas where it can be subject to movement (for example in the door).
- figure 3 is shown a modification of the ice maker of figures 1-2 , in which the movement of the ice-releasing lever 18 is driven manually by a knob 20.

Claims (9)
- Machine à glace adaptée pour être montée sur un appareil frigorifique, comprenant un contenant de fabrication de glace (14, 114) et un système de libération de glace (18, 18a, 20, 115, 120) destiné à séparer la glace formée du contenant de fabrication de glace (14, 114), le contenant de fabrication de glace (14, 114) étant doté d'un couvercle sensiblement étanche à l'eau (16, 116) destiné à empêcher un déversement d'eau lorsque la glace n'est pas encore formée dans le contenant de fabrication de glace (14, 114), caractérisée en ce que le couvercle (16) a une section semi-circulaire correspondant à la section du contenant de fabrication de glace (14), le couvercle (16) étant également doté d'une fente longitudinale (16a, 116a) permettant une formation plus rapide de glace ayant une section en forme de demi-lune.
- Machine à glace selon la revendication 1, caractérisée en ce que le couvercle (16) est monté de façon rotative sur le contenant de fabrication de glace, le système de libération de glace comprenant un levier de libération de glace (18, 18a), le levier de libération de glace (18, 18a) étant monté de façon rotative coaxialement par rapport au contenant de fabrication de glace semicylindrique (14) et le couvercle (16) étant fixé au levier (18) de sorte qu'ils tournent simultanément.
- Machine à glace selon la revendication 1 ou 2, caractérisée en ce que le couvercle (16) est adapté pour adopter par rotation une configuration fermée dans laquelle le contenant de fabrication de glace (14) et le couvercle (16) forment un ensemble cylindrique et une configuration ouverte dans laquelle le couvercle (16) est sensiblement sous le contenant de fabrication de glace (14).
- Machine à glace selon la revendication 2 ou 3, caractérisée en ce que la machine à glace comprend une unité d'entraînement (12) destinée à fournir de l'énergie afin d'entraîner le levier de libération de glace (18, 18a) et/ou afin d'entraîner le couvercle rotatif (16).
- Machine à glace selon la revendication 2 ou 3, caractérisée en ce que le levier de libération de glace (18, 18a) comprend une extrémité en forme de bouton destinée à mettre manuellement en rotation le levier (18, 18a).
- Machine à glace selon la revendication 1, caractérisée en ce que le système de libération de glace comprend un contenant de fabrication de glace mobile et déformable (114).
- Machine à glace selon la revendication 6, caractérisée en ce qu'elle comprend une unité d'entraînement (115) destinée à fournir de l'énergie afin d'entraîner le contenant de fabrication de glace (114).
- Machine à glace selon la revendication 6, caractérisée en ce que le contenant de fabrication de glace mobile et déformable (114) est adapté pour être mis manuellement en rotation.
- Machine à glace selon l'une quelconque des revendications 6 à 8, caractérisée en ce que le contenant de fabrication de glace (114) peut être mis en rotation entre une première position horizontale et une seconde position dans laquelle une extrémité du contenant (114) bute contre une portion correspondante d'un cadre de support (112) et l'autre extrémité est entraînée par un couple prédéterminé de sorte que le contenant de fabrication de glace (114) subit un degré prédéterminé de gauchissement.
