Definitions
- the present invention relates to a mechanism for driving a date display for a timepiece comprising a first and second indicators for which are affixed numbers respectively indicating the units and tens of said date, these indicators being driven by a mobile programming.
- the last bearing itself a date wheel equipped with thirty-one teeth, this wheel being driven in turn by the tip of a rocker to advance said wheel by one step during a change of date.
- This mechanism equips a timepiece known as a large date appearing through a large window pierced in the dial of this timepiece. The date then appears larger than if it was printed on a single ring making one turn less and progressing about 11.5 degrees per day.
- the first and second indicators respectively indicating the units and the tens of the date are driven by a programming mobile which is described in the document WO 01/77756 .
- This mobile is arranged to step the first indicator at the end of every day except at the end of the thirty-first day when it is not driven, and by one step the second indicator at the end of the ninth , nineteenth, twenty-ninth and thirty-first days of the month.
- This programming mobile carries a date wheel provided with thirty-one teeth that is known to be driven by the spout of a rocker which is in turn controlled either by the engine mechanism of the timepiece, or by a pusher manually operated when there is a need for date correction.
- the change of date occurs when the tip of the rocker - controlled manually or by the drive mechanism - enters between two teeth of the date wheel and advances one step thereof.
- This constructive arrangement has a major disadvantage, that of the risk of runaway of one of the indicators. Indeed, as the correction of the date is effected by means of a pusher and as the force exerted manually on this pusher is not constant but depends on the force with which the latter is pushed, the date wheel and with it the programming mobile which is linked to it can launch either the indicator of the tens, or the indicator of the units, by the inertia said indicators beyond the desired angle of rotation of a single pitch, resulting in a progression of two units or one.
- the document WO 01/77756 cited above uses a ratchet and two pins that prevent the runaway of one or other of the indicators. This system is relatively complicated and uses additional parts increasing the price of the timepiece.
- the present invention avoids the runaway of one or the other of the indicators whatever the date of the change of date and without it being necessary to add to the timepiece a single additional piece.
- the drive mechanism of the date display in addition to meeting the description of the first paragraph of this description, is remarkable in that between each change of date the tip of the rocker is engaged between first and second teeth which carries the date wheel and at the time of the change of date said nose is first released from said first and second teeth and then fall between second and third teeth of said wheel and thus progress this last of a step.
- the drive mechanism of a date display is illustrated in the figures listed above.
- This date has two indicators.
- the first indicator 1 displays the units 3 of the date and the second indicator 2 displays the tens 4 of said date.
- the indicators 1 and 2 are mounted coaxial to each other, that of the tens being mounted inside that of the units.
- the date appears through a large window pierced in the dial that wears the timepiece indicators 1 and 2 are driven by a programming mobile P.
- the programming mobile 8 stepped the first indicator 1 of the units 3 at the end of every day of the month except at the end of the thirty-first day when it is not driven.
- FIGS. 3 and 4 show that the indicator 1 of the units is provided with a ten-pointed star 26 in engagement with a wheel 27 carrying thirty teeth 28, the latter being secured to the programming wheel P.
- the wheel 27 has a gap 29 toothless so that the indicator 1 units 3 is not driven when the date passes the 31 of the month ending in the first of the new month, the number 1 remaining stationary and therefore used for both dates.
- the programming mobile 8 is also arranged to step the second indicator 2 of the tens 4 at the end of the ninth, nineteenth, twenty-ninth and thirty-first days of the month.
- the figures show that the indicator 2 of the tens 4 is provided with a pinion 30 with four branches 31 engaged with one of the four protrusions 32 movable integral programming 8, these projections being arranged on the mobile 8 to advance d one not the indicator 2 of the tens 4 at the end of the days mentioned above.
- the programming wheel 8 carries a date wheel 9 provided with thirty-one teeth 10 regularly distributed around the wheel 9.
- This date wheel 9 is in turn driven by the spout 15 of a rocker 16
- a return spring 17 acts on the rocker 16, the latter pivoting about an axis 18.
- Figure 1 shows the drive mechanism as it occurs between each change of date. This is the rest position according to the original idea that makes the present invention, the nose 15 of the rocker 16 is then engaged between first and second teeth 11 and 12 of the date wheel 9.
- This arrangement has a first advantage obvious, that of blocking the mechanism and thus to make it insensitive to possible shocks exerted on the timepiece and that could cause the date wheel to turn unexpectedly between the periods of change of date.
- This provision therefore deviates from that generally adopted in the prior art which consists of releasing the spout of the toothing of the wheel 9, insensitivity to impact being provided only by a jumper 34 acting on this toothing.
- the engagement of the spout 15 in the toothing of the date wheel is ensured by the force of the return spring 17 which presses on the rocker 16. As shown in FIG. 1, the date displayed is 24.
- FIG. 2 shows the drive mechanism as it appears at the beginning of a change of date due to an action exerted on a correction push-button.
- the pusher proper is not shown, but a rod 21 associated with it.
- This rod is biased by a spring 35.
- FIG. 2 shows that the spout 15 of the rocker 16 is manually disengaged from the date wheel 9 to correct the date. This clearance is achieved by means of the rod 21 of the pusher.
- the rod 21 cooperates with a driver pin 22 mounted on the flip-flop 16 and rotates this latch clockwise when the rod 21 moves in the direction of the arrow B by manual action exerted on the pusher associated with this rod.
- the nose 15 of the lever 16 is disengaged from the first and second teeth 11 and 12 and faces the second and third teeth 12 and 13 of the date wheel 9.
- the date displayed is still 24.
- Figure 3 shows the drive mechanism as it appears at the beginning of a change of date due to an action exerted by the movement of the timepiece. This is a change of date as it appears at the end of each day.
- the spout 15 of the rocker 16 is disengaged from the date wheel 9 by a cam 19 driven by the movement of the timepiece, this cam 19 making a turn in twenty-four hours by turning in the direction of the arrow A and cooperate with a finger 20 which is provided with the rocker 16.
- the tip of the rocker is released from the first and second teeth 11 and 12 and is opposite the second and third teeth 12 and 13 of the date wheel 9.
- the date displayed is still 24.
- Figure 3 also shows that the cam 19 has a first sector 23 up and low inclinations.
- the cam 19 rotating in the direction of the arrow A, the finger 20 of the rocker 16 begins by climbing this first sector 23, which rotates the rocker 16 in the clockwise direction to disengage its spout 15 of the toothing of the wheel of date 9.
- the clearance is maximum when the top of the finger 20 reaches the end of the first sector 23.
- Figure 4 shows the drive mechanism as it appears at the end of the change of date.
- FIG. 4 shows that the spout 15 has fallen back between the second and third teeth 12 and 13 of the date wheel 9, which makes this wheel turn clockwise and advances the indicator 1 of the units by one step. 3 from the 4th to the 5th, the date being changed from the 24th to the 25th.
- the change of date has been caused either manually by abandoning the pressure exerted on the pusher, or mechanically by the movement of the timepiece at the end of a day.
- FIG. 4 shows that the rod 21 is returned to the rest position in the direction of the arrow C by releasing the manual pressure exerted on its pusher, this return being actuated by the return spring 35.
- the latch 16 rotates in a counterclockwise direction and its spout 15 is housed between the second and third teeth 12 and 13 of the wheel 9, rotating this wheel a step as mentioned above.
- Figure 3 also shows that the cam 19 has a second sector 24 downward and disposed substantially radically to the axis of rotation 25 of the cam.
- the second sector 24 has a void space in which the finger 20 falls as soon as the cam continues to rotate in the direction of the arrow A, that is to say at the time of the change of date.
- the drop of the finger 20 in the empty space of the cam instantly rotates the rocker 16 in a counterclockwise direction and makes the spout 15 penetrate between the second and third teeth 12 and 13 which causes the instantaneous advancement of the date wheel. and hence the instantaneous change of one or the other indicator.
- the instantaneous changeover from date to midnight has not been proposed, to the knowledge of the applicant, in timepieces on a large date where there are dragging or semi-instantaneous mechanisms that require several tens of minutes to pass through. one date to another.
