Description

The present invention relates to corking means for bottle of sparkling wine such as champagne.

ARRIERE PLAN DE L'INVENTIONBACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The champagne cork is a natural or reconstituted cork that is compressed radially and introduced in the compressed state over part of its height into the neck of a bottle. This neck has a counter-outer ring intended to ensure the retention of a wire cap which, generally via a cup or a metal plate, ensures the maintenance of the plug in the neck against the effect of the pressure prevailing in the bottle.

This clogging contributes to the image and reputation of champagne wines and consumers are sensitive and very attached to it.

And yet, this type of clogging is absolutely no longer satisfactory. Indeed, organoleptically, cork - whose quality is decreasing and whose scarcity increases - no longer allows the wine to maintain a quality acceptable to the consumer. Sensory deviations as well as oxidation phenomena are being observed more and more frequently and recent studies carried out on the subject by the research or control bodies reveal affected bottle rates of between 5 and 10 per cent. Foreign customers in this respect are formidable in being particularly demanding.

In addition, the nature of the clogging is a source of accidents at the time of the operation of opening the bottle by the consumer. The cap can indeed escape and be violently projected into the surrounding space, may break objects that are there or injure a person near the bottle.

Furthermore, the prior compression of the plug is a source of defects in the outer surface of the plug which cooperates, with the inner surface of the neck, to the sealing of the closure. There may then be small cavities which, combined with a hysteresis of the elasticity of the cork, thus a delay in recovering its initial shape, are the seat of a retention of wine which are sources of leakage primers and losses of seal.

In alternative cork stopper solutions, usually used for effervescent liquids, sealing is achieved by compressing a seal on the upper surface of the neck. The quality of the seal depends on the compression ratio of this seal and the quality of the bearing surfaces. These include mechanical clogging, crown caps or screw caps, techniques encountered in the beer and carbonated beverage markets. In the case of a cap with a head held in place by a wire cap, the depression of the plug in the neck is mainly conditioned by the dimensions of the legs of the muzzle. However, the embodiment of the muzzle does not allow high precision dimensions and significant variations in length of these legs are found from one wire to the other. It is understood that with such a device, the compression of a possible seal placed between the shoulder of the cap head and the rim of the ring can not be provided in a regular and controlled manner.

OBJET DE L'INVENTIONOBJECT OF THE INVENTION

Since traditional bottling of sparkling wine and champagne bottles is no longer satisfactory, there is a need for effective and long-lasting corking which, above all, does not overturn the traditional image of the appellation of origin that producers maintain with the consumer.

BREVE DESCRIPTION DE L'INVENTIONBRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

This need is satisfied by the invention which relates to a plug for a soft drink bottle, intended to cooperate with the neck of the bottle by means of a retaining muselet, the stopper comprising an external head at the rim of the neck, a guiding portion of the stopper in the neck, issuing from the head, at least one lateral seal attached in a groove of the guiding portion to cooperate by sealing with the inner surface of the neck, the head further comprising a skirt of revolution about the axis of the guide portion, extending to cap the rim of the neck and still be in contact with the outer surface of the latter when the cap is held in place by the muselet, a substantially cylindrical portion opposite the head in the vicinity of its free edge.

Thus, the structure of the plug of the invention makes it possible to take into consideration the dimensional dispersions of the wire straps to ensure a good sealing of the plugging.

The skirt is substantially cylindrical in its opposite portion to the head in the vicinity of its free edge. This geometry allows precisely to allow movement between the cap and the neck of the bottle, which occurs after the depression of the cap at the moment when it is released, the muselet having been placed, while maintaining this contact between the skirt and the outer surface of the rim.

In the traditional way the head is dimensioned to have a peripheral portion which is in line with the rim, this part thus forming a stop at the depression of the plug in the neck located at the bottom of the aforesaid skirt. In a particular embodiment, this head has a substantially cylindrical central portion and a peripheral shell connected to the central portion by radial ribs whose lower end constitutes the above abutment.

It is advantageous to make a guide portion having beyond the lateral seal relative to the head, a portion of material different from that of the head. In this embodiment, the aforesaid portion of the guide portion is attached to the end of the central portion of the head and delimits with the latter a peripheral housing for the lateral joint. Thus, the shape of this housing can it be a simple circular groove or affect a more complex shape such as a corrugated groove on the surface of the guide portion. In this case, certain peaks of this wave first leave the neck at the time of unblocking and allow controlled or progressive decompression of the inside of the bottle.

This implementation of two materials allows, in a luxurious version of the invention, to achieve the head of glass or transparent plastic material (polyester) while the guide portion will be in another material, reported under the head. This other material, in particular plastic, will have excellent barrier properties with respect to the constituents of the wine contained in the bottle.

Preferably, the aforesaid portion is tubular with a transverse partition while its wall is notched on the side of its free edge, opposite this partition.

To better support the force of the cap on the cap, the outer surface of the head has indexing grooves of the position of the legs of the muzzle to the right of the radial ribs.

In addition, the head is provided at its top with a receptacle for receiving a personalization cap closure capsule. In this case, the muzzle may be devoid of capsule.

Finally, the guide portion comprises at least one degassing groove of the bottle ending in the throat of the seal allowing a gradual decompression of the inside of the bottle during opening and avoiding the uncontrolled expulsion of the cap.

Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will emerge on reading the following description of particular non-limiting embodiments of the invention.

DESCRIPTION DETAILLEE DE L'INVENTIONDETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The plug shown in figure 1 comprises a head 1 made of material, for example plastic adapted to all the desired decoration variations. In this respect it is possible to use materials such as thermoplastics (for example polyesters), glass, wood or metal. This head is shown here hollow and may include prints either on its outer face 1a or on its inside 1b. In the latter case the head is made of transparent material. This head can be made by molding, by pressing, by machining and this, depending on the materials used.

It comprises a central cylindrical portion 2, provided in the lower part of an inner bead 3 and surrounded by a peripheral shell 4 connected to the central cylindrical portion by its top.

The peripheral shell 4 is terminated at the bottom by a skirt of cylindrical revolution whose inside diameter is substantially equal to that outside of a bottle mouth 7 6 as shown in FIGS. Figures 2 and 3 . Thus, the central portion 2 of the head is a guiding portion of the plug in the neck of the bottle while the skirt 5 is to cap the rim of the neck in contact with the outer surface of the latter. This function is quite simple to ensure because the neck of a bottle is, in glassware, well mastered from the point of view of dimensions and their tolerances. The height of the skirt 5 is of the order of 3 to 4 millimeters so that it always remains in contact with the neck despite the ascent (of the order of a few millimeters) of the plug, which operates under the effect of the pressure after the installation of the muzzle.

The central portion 2 of the head 1 is extended by a portion 8 attached at its end to form with the entire guide portion of the plug. This portion 8 is here tubular with a transverse partition 9 dividing it into a first portion 8a for its fastening snap at the end of the part 2 of the head, thanks to the cooperation of the bead 3 with a groove 10 and a second part 8b in the form of a tubular wall provided with notches 11.

The portion 8 of the guide portion defines, when assembled to the central portion 2 of the head, with this central portion, a groove 12 which can receive a sealing member, for example an O-ring 13. The throat 12 is here annular. It can affect a very simple wave form of realization since the sides of the groove are carried by two axially assembled parts. This arrangement has the advantage of facilitating the establishment of the seal.

In the embodiment shown at figure 1 , the neck of the bottle enters between the shell 3 and the guide portion 2 without encountering a positive stop at the depression. Clogging must in these conditions be perfectly controlled with respect to the relative position of the neck and the plug during the depression.

The achievement represented Figures 2 and 3 reveals between the portion 2 and the shell 4 radial ribs 14 which, on the one hand stiffen the head and on the other hand, by their lower edge 14a, forms a stop of control of the depression at the stopper by coming to bear on the upper surface of the rim 6. The relative position of the collar and cork at the figure 2 is the one when laying the muzzle while at the figure 3 it corresponds to the final position taken under the effect of the pressure existing in the bottle.

One or more decompression grooves 15 are formed along a generatrix of the portion 8b from its free end into the groove 12. This groove is the channel of a decompression leak of the bottle when, loosening the muzzle, the cap rises gradually along the neck until the O-ring passes to the level of the rim allowing the gas to escape without brutality. The pressure inside the container drops and equilibrates with the atmospheric pressure. The force of expulsion which was exerted on the plug becomes zero, the part 8b, located under the groove 12 and which is of a diameter slightly greater than the inside diameter of the neck, brakes the plug and it is stopped in its race. The total opening of the bottle will then be carried out easily and under control of the consumer by a rotational movement and traction.

This decompression effect can also be achieved by placing a corrugated seal as mentioned above.

A muselet 16 is also shown to Figures 2 and 3 . The shell 4 of the plug may be provided with grooves 17 in which are housed the tabs 16a of the muelet 16. These grooves will be located in line with the radial ribs 14 in order to cash the clamping force of the muzzle. This cap may be a cap without upper capsule, the latter 19 having been previously put in place in the housing 18 of the top of the plug reported which makes the customization of the bottle more flexible.

We can, of course, with the plug of the invention, set up a traditional muselet with his personalization plate overflowing under the upper circle of the muzzle.
