Definitions
- the present invention relates to a secured against bleeding of pressure-sensitive adhesive label and its preparation.
- a label which has a film layer shrinking back under the action of heat.
- the film layer is a laminate of two layers having different degrees of shrinkage. Due to the different degrees of shrinkage occurs when exposed to heat to a kind of bimetal effect, which causes the label edges of the substrate to which the label is adhered, solve.
- the pressure-sensitive adhesive of labels often tends to bleed. This refers to the emergence of adhesive beyond the label contour. Bleeding may occur, for example, during further processing, on the transport to the customer or during storage.
- the emerging pressure-sensitive adhesive leads to the sticking of rolled label webs and can also have other negative effects, for example in the case of re-lettering or other further processing steps. Thus, by leaked adhesive printing systems (for the Nachbeschriftung of the label) can be contaminated.
- Bleeding particularly occurs when high flow adhesives (such as certain specialty adhesives) are used and / or high adhesive load weights are present. In order to ensure secure adhesion to substrates with difficult surface conditions, however, the use of appropriately flowable adhesives with correspondingly high application weights can often not be avoided.
- high flow adhesives such as certain specialty adhesives
- the usual measures against bleeding include, in particular, the cooling during transport, storage and / or further processing.
- cooling systems generally require some technical effort and cause high operating costs due to their energy consumption.
- the risk of re-shrinking, especially the lower film (but also the upper film) should be avoided.
- a suitable method for producing such a label is to be provided.
- a label according to claim 1 which in each case has at least one upper film section, a lower film section connected to the upper film section and a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer which is attached to the side of the lower film section facing away from the upper film section.
- the bottom film section is formed from a non-shrinkable at temperatures up to 50 degrees Celsius film and kept slightly smaller in its surface area to all sides than the top film section.
- This supernatant is preferably not larger than 1.5 mm. For many purposes, a supernatant of about 0.2 to 0.5 mm is particularly preferred.
- the upper film portion is preferably formed of a non-shrinking material, but at least inclined from a too low shrinkage, to avoid a subsequent reduction of the supernatant by shrinkage of the upper film portion.
- Decisive for the protection of the label against adhesive bleeding is that the upper film section at least does not shrink significantly under storage and transport conditions, as this can be particularly critical negative effects of bleeding. If the label is delivered in the bonded state of more extreme environmental influences, a slight shrinkage behavior of the top label can be tolerated to some extent, since leaking adhesive then may not have any effect-reducing effects of the effect.
- the upper and lower film sections can advantageously be connected by coextrusion, but preferably the connection between the upper film section and lower film section is designed as an adhesive layer, which preferably has a surface-related coating weight of less than 30 grams per square meter, in order to avoid bleeding of this adhesive layer.
- the adhesive layer between the top and bottom film sections preferably a relatively "hard", i. chosen to flow tending acrylate adhesive.
- the use of a laminating lacquer is possible or otherwise compounds by means of chemical or physical influences, for example by chemical or conventional (caused by heat) welding.
- the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer on the side of the lower film section facing away from the upper film is, in accordance with the usual purpose of attachment to "difficult", ie. particularly rough or otherwise adhesion-unfriendly surfaces, preferably thicker than 40 microns, in practice probably mostly between 45 and 150 microns thick. In special cases, thicknesses of the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer of more than 1 mm may also be advantageous. In order to achieve optimum adhesive properties, relatively soft pressure sensitive adhesives of modified acrylate or rubber material are preferably used.
- the labels according to the invention can advantageously have a wide variety of equipment features which are known from the label application. These include imprints with text, image or code information, surfaces optimized for postmarking or special films, luminescent color layers, protective layers, stampings, tabs, detachable sections and security features of various types.
- the label 101 shown consists of an upper film section 102 and a lower film section 103 coated on the underside with pressure-sensitive adhesive 105. Both film sections are connected to one another via a connecting layer 104.
- the bonding layer may also be a pressure-sensitive adhesive, but also a laminating paint. Furthermore, it is possible that both film sections were produced from a coextruded film and thus the connection layer 104 is not necessary.
- the lower film portion is formed from a non-shrinkable film. Specifically, this film shows no shrinkage up to a temperature range up to 50 degrees Celsius, preferably up to 100 degrees Celsius.
- the lower film section is dimensioned somewhat smaller at all edges than the upper film section.
- Fig. 2 the inventive (similarly numbered) label 201 is shown in plan view. Visible is due to its larger dimensions, only the upper film portion 202; the lower film section 203 is therefore indicated only by dashed lines.
- the label according to the invention has the same effect as one consisting of two film sections of equal size, in which the lower film section was subsequently shrunk:
- the adhesive 105 see FIG. FIG. 1
- the advantage is that the sub-sheet portion does not shrink even after being labeled under other environmental conditions such as exposure to heat.
- Fig. 3 shows a preferred manufacturing method for the label described above: A composite 306 of carrier tape and self-adhesive provided first film web is punched at a first punch A in lower film sections 303. From a second roller 307, a further film web is fed and laminated to the lower film sections. A second punch B punches the top film section, which according to the invention is dimensioned larger on all sides than the outline of the bottom film section.
- the label 301 is the product described above, which is rewound onto a roll. To simplify the illustration, the deduction of the grid after the two punching operations in the figure has been omitted.
- FIG. 4 An alternative manufacturing possibility of the label is in Fig. 4 shown.
- a coextruded, preferably provided with adhesive layer composite film 408, consisting of at least two films is first stamped on a punch A so that only one film layer is punched through.
- a carrier tape 409 is supplied.
- the second film layer is punched on punch B, so that again - this time wrong in comparison to Fig. 3 -
- the labels according to the invention are present and can be wound up on a roll.
- the two film sections of the label by means of a dispensing method on the other section.
- This method is particularly suitable when the top film section consists of several individual films or was otherwise pretreated, for example, was provided with complicated printing, while the bottom film section consists of a simple, untreated film. Since the protection from adhesive bleeding only works if both foil sections are in registration with each other after dispensing, it is of advantage to use control systems, preferably Electronic image surveillance systems to control the registration accuracy.
- a transfer process for dispensing the upper film sections can be selected: both film sections are on carrier films, the upper film sections being transferred from their carrier to the lower film sections ,
- the tie layer between the topsheet sections and their backing either remains on the backing in this process or is a dry remaining layer which forms the later top surface of the label.
- this layer is therefore printable.
- the transfer method offers the advantage compared to the conventional dispensing method that the registration accuracy of the two film sections is easier to accomplish once the processing machine has been set precisely.

Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a secured against bleeding of pressure-sensitive adhesive label and its preparation.
The pressure-sensitive adhesive of labels often tends to bleed. This refers to the emergence of adhesive beyond the label contour. Bleeding may occur, for example, during further processing, on the transport to the customer or during storage. The emerging pressure-sensitive adhesive leads to the sticking of rolled label webs and can also have other negative effects, for example in the case of re-lettering or other further processing steps. Thus, by leaked adhesive printing systems (for the Nachbeschriftung of the label) can be contaminated.
Bleeding particularly occurs when high flow adhesives (such as certain specialty adhesives) are used and / or high adhesive load weights are present. In order to ensure secure adhesion to substrates with difficult surface conditions, however, the use of appropriately flowable adhesives with correspondingly high application weights can often not be avoided.
The usual measures against bleeding include, in particular, the cooling during transport, storage and / or further processing. However, cooling systems generally require some technical effort and cause high operating costs due to their energy consumption.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a secured against bleeding of pressure-sensitive adhesive label. The risk of re-shrinking, especially the lower film (but also the upper film) should be avoided. Furthermore, a suitable method for producing such a label is to be provided.
This object is achieved by a label according to
Among other possibilities, the upper and lower film sections can advantageously be connected by coextrusion, but preferably the connection between the upper film section and lower film section is designed as an adhesive layer, which preferably has a surface-related coating weight of less than 30 grams per square meter, in order to avoid bleeding of this adhesive layer. For the same reason, for the adhesive layer between the top and bottom film sections, preferably a relatively "hard", i. chosen to flow tending acrylate adhesive. As an alternative to such adhesives, the use of a laminating lacquer is possible or otherwise compounds by means of chemical or physical influences, for example by chemical or conventional (caused by heat) welding.
The pressure-sensitive adhesive layer on the side of the lower film section facing away from the upper film, on the other hand, is, in accordance with the usual purpose of attachment to "difficult", ie. particularly rough or otherwise adhesion-unfriendly surfaces, preferably thicker than 40 microns, in practice probably mostly between 45 and 150 microns thick. In special cases, thicknesses of the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer of more than 1 mm may also be advantageous. In order to achieve optimum adhesive properties, relatively soft pressure sensitive adhesives of modified acrylate or rubber material are preferably used.
Depending on the intended use, the labels according to the invention can advantageously have a wide variety of equipment features which are known from the label application. These include imprints with text, image or code information, surfaces optimized for postmarking or special films, luminescent color layers, protective layers, stampings, tabs, detachable sections and security features of various types.
The label according to the invention and corresponding method provided for its production will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings. The illustrations are purely schematic and not to scale; In particular, layer thicknesses are shown greatly enlarged for reasons of clarity.

Furthermore, it is also possible to apply one of the two film sections of the label by means of a dispensing method on the other section. This method is particularly suitable when the top film section consists of several individual films or was otherwise pretreated, for example, was provided with complicated printing, while the bottom film section consists of a simple, untreated film. Since the protection from adhesive bleeding only works if both foil sections are in registration with each other after dispensing, it is of advantage to use control systems, preferably Electronic image surveillance systems to control the registration accuracy.
It goes without saying that such control systems can also be usefully used in the control of the methods described above.
Instead of the conventional dispensing method, in which the upper film sections are dispensed onto the lower film section via a dispensing edge as in labeling processes, a transfer process for dispensing the upper film sections can be selected: both film sections are on carrier films, the upper film sections being transferred from their carrier to the lower film sections , The tie layer between the topsheet sections and their backing either remains on the backing in this process or is a dry remaining layer which forms the later top surface of the label. Preferably, this layer is therefore printable. The transfer method offers the advantage compared to the conventional dispensing method that the registration accuracy of the two film sections is easier to accomplish once the processing machine has been set precisely.
