Description

A kit to quickly remake the bed and a mattress suitable for the application of the kit
The present invention relates to a kit which permits to quickly remake the bed and to a mattress suitable for the application of the kit. Traditional sheets, upper and lower sheets, blankets and bedspreads are made of rectangular pieces of fabric which are usually tucked underneath the mattress.
This type of arrangement presents various problems both for the person that uses the bed and to the person that makes the bed. In fact, lower sheets often get rumpled or even get partially dislodged from beneath the mattress, due to the movements of the occupant(s), and thereby no longer represents a smooth and comfortable sleeping surface.
Upper sheets, blankets and bedspreads also present problems being usually dislodged from their original position underneath the mattress, leaving the occupant(s) partially or completely uncovered Making the bed and/or changing the sheets also presents various inconveniences, in fact to tuck sheets, blankets and bedspreads underneath the mattress it is often necessary to be in uncomfortable positions; in some cases, the mattress is heavy or not easily reachable (see, for example, bunk- beds, beds leaning against walls, in-built beds, tip-up beds, and so on) so the above operations become even more difficult. On the other hand, the modern lifestyle, the needs of particular individuals - such as disabled persons, old people, singles, and so on - or the habits of some particular places - such as hospitals, social centres or communities run by religious organizations, hotels, passenger ships, ferry boats, and so on - all call for a simplification of the everyday routine to make the bed which would also allow to reduce the costs incurred for the employed staff that carry out this work. It is currently possible to buy sheets which are firmly fitted to the mattress by means of elastic bands applied either all along the length or just at the four comers of the lower sheet or mattress sheet cover
With the passing of time, after many machine washings and after exposure to the sun or to other heat sources, the elastic bands lose their initial tension, and the sheet no longer fit to the mattress firmly. Patents US 4703530 and US 2002/0088054, referring to mattress sheet covers with elastic bands all along their length, and US 5513403, referring to a mattress sheet cover with corner elastic bands, are the state of the art at present known. To avoid the usage of elastic bands, new devices have been so far introduced, as in the US Patent no 5020177, where the sheets are also joined to each other by means of zip fasteners the lower sheet is however fitted to the mattress by means of conventional elastic bands The aim of this invention is to overcome the above mentioned drawbacks - when either using or making the bed - and also to solve the problems arising from the usage of the elastic bands. This invention solves the following problems
use of the lower sheet without elastic bands along its length or at its corners;
use of a single sheet to obtain both the upper and lower sheet;
securing sheets, blankets and bedspreads directly to the mattress, application of sheets, blankets and bedspreads even to turned over mattresses (having summer/winter sides - head/foot end).
- possibility to secure directly to the mattress a draw-sheet in rubber waterproof and/or sponge- cloth.
The kit of the present invention has all these features, and others which are disclosed in the description of the invention. The kit consists of draw-sheet, sheets, blanket, bedspread and relative mattress suitable for the their application
The kit and the mattress are here below described also by means of the enclosed drawings which illustrate: Fig 1 - three-dimensional view of a mattress having half zip fasteners (each made of one row of zip fastener teeth), the draw-sheet being partially secured to the side of the mattress by means of said zip fasteners, also, a detailed X is more closely shown,
Fig. 2 - three-dimensional view of the mattress shown in fig.1, the draw-sheet being totally secured to the mattress by means of zip fasteners and the upper and lower sheets being at the foot end partially secured to the mattress, always by means of zip fasteners,
Fig 3 - the upper and lower sheets shown in fig 2 - seen from above - before being folded and secured underneath the mattress;
Fig 4 - three-dimensional view of the mattress shown in previous drawings, having at its foot end the upper and lower sheets totally secured and the blanket partially secured by means of zip fasteners;
Fig 5 - three-dimensional view of the mattress shown in previous drawings, the blanket being here totally secured and the bedspread only partially secured by means of zip fasteners;
Fig. 6 - three-dimensional view of a bed made by means of the described kit completely assembled to the mattress; Fig 7 - three-dimensional view of a band provided with all the half zip fasteners to be applied to a mattress,
Fig 8 - the band shown in fig 7 applied to the mattress having a standard size The mattress 1 of the present invention, illustrated in fig 1 in a preferred embodiment, and in a standard size, made up of six faces or sides, being similar to a parallelepiped (as all mattresses normally are) the winter side 1 1, or alternatively the summer side 1 2, acting as a supporting base, the head end 1 6 and the foot end 1 4, being also interchangeable to each other, and the lateral sides 1 3 and 1 5 Three half zip fasteners 7 1, 7 2 and 7 3 are sewn to the head end 1 6 and to the foot end 1 4, said half zip fasteners being parallel to each other and covering the full width 12 of the mattress, and allowing the kit - made of sheets, blanket and bedspread with complementary half zip fasteners - to be secured to the mattress 1
On its lateral sides the mattress is also provided with two pairs of half zip fasteners 6 1 and with a third 6 2 placed between these two The length of the half zip fasteners is about one third of the mattress length h, they are parallel to each other and allow (see fig 1) the draw-sheet in sponge cloth 2 1 to be secured to the mattress by means of its complementary half zip fastener, and also allow (see fig 2) the rubber draw-sheet 2 2 to be in turn secured by means of its half zip fastener Said draw- sheets - in particular when the bed is to be used by sick persons, old people or children can also be easily placed above the upper sheet in case of an emergency, so that sheets are kept clean and the occupant may rest on a smooth surface
All the zip fasteners applied on the mattress are also functional when the mattress is turned over to change the supporting base from summer side to winter side and vice versa The detail (fig 1) is a three-dimensional partial view of the lateral half zip fasteners sewn to the mattress
Fig 2 shows sheet 3 - made of the lower sheet 3 1 (having its width 13 larger than the width 12 of the mattress and acting as a mattress sheet cover) and of the upper sheet 3 2 (having its width 14 larger than the width 13 of the lower sheet) - partially secured to the mattress by means of the zip fasteners As shown in fig 3, the lower and the upper sheets may be made up of a single sheet 3 folded along the edge 3 3 or two sheets 3 1 and 3 2 sewn to each other along said edge
A half zip fastener 7 1 is sewn along said edge (or seam) 3 3, securing the lower end of the folded sheet 3 (or of the two sewn sheets 3 1 and 3 2) to the mattress, by means of the complementary half zip fastener placed on the mattress The lower sheet 3 1 is secured to the head end of the mattress by means the half zip fastener 7 1 placed on the head end of the sheet to the complementary half zip fastener placed on the mattress The sides and the head end of the lower sheet are larger in size than the mattress, so that it covers the sides 1 3, 1 6 and 1 5 of the mattress and no other fastening device is required, the lower sheet being well tightly set by means of said zip fasteners 7 1
Fig 4 shows blanket or quilt 4 or eiderdown partially secured to the mattress, being provided along one of its short sides with a half zip fastener 7 2 having the aim to secure the blanket to the mattress by means of the complementary half zip fastener placed on side 1 4 of the mattress Fig 5 shows bedspread 5 partially secured to the mattress, being provided along one of its short sides - just like blanket 4 - with a half zip fastener 7 3 that secure the bedspread to the complementary half zip fastener placed on side 1 4 of the mattress
The bedspread is also provided with a zip cover flap, close to the half zip fastener 7 3, in order that the zip fastener is out of sight and completes the foot end of the bed Fig 6 shows a single bed accomplished with the kit and the mattress according to the present invention, the frame of the bed is also shown (hatched).
The elements making up the kit and the mattress may be differently sized according to the kind of bed which is to be composed a single bed, a double bed, and so on
The dimensions of the kit elements, of the mattress and of all the half zip fasteners are complementary to one another, that is to say, each kit is to be only combined to the relevant mattress and vice versa, in order to have a finished bed
The mattress may be of different types a spring mattress, a foam mattress, a latex mattress, a water mattress, a wool mattress, and so on
All the zip fasteners of the kit may have either one or two sliding tabs
Zip fasteners having two sliding tabs are particularly suitable if one of the bed sides is not easily reachable, or if the bed is positioned against a wall
Fig 7 shows a different embodiment of the invention, which consists of a band 8 as long as the perimeter of a commonly used mattress 9 having a standard size, said band being provided with all the half zip fasteners which would otherwise be directly applied to the lateral and frontal sides of the mattress The band 8, as shown in fig 8, is to be either sewn (through seams 10) or differently applied to the mattress, the four co ers 8 1 of said band have an elastic structure
The lower sheet can also be furnished with half zip fasteners placed on each side so that the sheet can be secured to one of the three complementary half zip fasteners (6 1, 6 2) on the mattress in order that the lower sheet is better fitted to the mattress
