Description

The invention is directed to a mascara brush comprising a plurality of bristles held between two twisted wire sections, the bristles being of different lengths by trimming.

On the one hand, such mascara brushes have to have good transfer properties in order to transfer the mascara liquid from a storage container to the user's eyelashes, on the other hand, advantageous application properties have to be provided in order to distribute the transferred mascara liquid evenly on the eyelashes and, finally, with the order process associated with a separation of the eyelashes to prevent sticking together.

In order to achieve these objectives, numerous solutions are known, describing on the one hand a targeted selection of the bristle material, the bristle thickness and the bristle length prior to the twisting of the wire sections, and on the other hand various techniques of trimming the twisted brush.

From the US 6,289,902 It is known to use as wire a plastically deformable wire and to cut off the bristles in certain angular sectors completely or to shorten to a uniform radial length.

From the US 6,279,583 a manufacturing technique is known in which the bristles between the wire sections by partially twisting initially provisionally fixed, then trimmed and finally by further Twisting finally be set. This is manufacturing technology consuming and does not allow high production speed.

The US Pat. No. 6,260,558 B1 describes a manufacturing method for a mascara brush, with which a brush is provided, which has different lengths of bristles in different sectors. Also, this manufacturing process is extremely expensive and not suitable for economical mass production.

The WO 96/311 describes a mascara brush which has sectors with differently dense bristles with respect to its longitudinal axis, which is obtained by the fact that the compartment box, from which the bristles are taken during the twisting, is filled with different densities with bristles.

Out DE 37 35 963 D2 It is known to trim the finished brush so that comb areas arise to improve the combing effect.

Out EP 1 129 641 A2 It is known to process bristles of different material seen in the longitudinal direction of the brush with different density.

The EP 0 832 580 A1 describes a mascara brush, in which in a first cutting a crowned, cigar-like basic shape is produced and then by a second cutting operation in the longitudinal direction milling.

Out EP 1 000 566 A2 is a mascara brush known whose lateral surface is cut in cross section substantially square.

Based on these known solutions, the invention has for its object to provide a mascara brush, which is optimally adapted to the basic requirements of such a brush as well as the subjective wishes of the consumer.

This object is achieved with the features of the characterizing part of claims 1 and 7.

It is preferably provided that the tips of the shorter bristles also lie on a parallel to the twisted wire sections.

According to the invention, a brush produced by a conventional manufacturing technique is therefore not so trimmed in the second cutting process that the bristles are completely cut or shortened in certain zones, as seen in the circumferential direction or in the longitudinal direction, but only a thinning cut is made such that in each case only a portion of the bristles is shortened, wherein the longer bristles form a largely uniform first outer envelope due to their spreading away from the wire core with their tips.

By producing areas with a reduced number of fiber tips in accordance with the invention without reducing the total number of fibers in the brush per turn, it is possible, in adaptation to the respective type of consumers, to specifically achieve an increased mass depot there.

In order to carry out the second cut, therefore, according to the invention, no rotating cutting tools are used or the brush is rotationally trimmed, since otherwise all fibers would be uniformly shortened in the trimmed areas, as is known from the prior art.

H. the envelope has a comb-like structure. Conveniently, the width of the trimmed at the second section ranges between 0.6 and 2.8 mm, in particular 1.2 mm, and the width of the uncut areas between 0.4 and 3 mm, in particular at 0.8 mm.

The second, inner envelope of the shorter bristles may extend only over a central portion of the brush or alternatively over both end portions. Furthermore, it is possible that the second cut is applied only on one side of the brush.

The second, inner envelope may be rectangular or triangular in cross-section, wherein the central longitudinal axis of the envelope coincide with the twisted wire sections or may be offset therefrom.

The first outer envelope may have all known geometries, ie in particular cylindrical, conical, spherical, concave or a combination of these basic shapes.

By a first cut, the bristles 2 are cut so that their tips form a first cylindrical outer envelope 5, which tapers towards the outer end 6 out.

Starting from such a brush known per se according to the invention, a second cut takes place such that the tips of the shortened by such a second cut bristles on a second, inner envelope 7, wherein the tips 8 of the shorter bristles 9 lie on an orthogonal, which extends at a distance A to the central longitudinal axis of the brush.

In the embodiment according to Fig. 2 the second section extends over the entire length of the brush 1, in the embodiment according to Fig. 3 via a central portion 10 and in the embodiment according to Fig. 4 over outer sections 11 and 12.

According to the embodiments Fig. 5 to 7 For example, only a single cutting plane is provided for the second cut, which accordingly forms the second, inner envelope 7 and has a different distance A from the brush target formed by the twisted wires 3, 4.

According to the embodiments Fig. 8 to 13 In each case several cutting planes are provided for the respective second cut for thinning the bristle density.

In the embodiment according to Fig. 8 The cutting planes and accordingly envelopes 5 run parallel to one another and at the same distance from the twisted wires 3, 4.

In the embodiment according to Fig. 9 The first brush is rotated after creation of the first cutting plane by 120 °, trimmed again flat and again rotated by 120 ° and cropped flat.

In the embodiment according to Fig. 10 The brush is rotated by 90 ° after each cut, so that a square cross section of the inner envelope 7 is formed.

The embodiment according to Fig. 11 is a modification of the embodiment according to Fig. 10 in which the longer bristles do not, as in Fig. 8 to 10 cylindrical, but are truncated in cross section square.

In the embodiment according to Fig. 12 the outer envelope 5 is triangular in cross-section and the inner envelope 7 is also truncated triangular, with the tips of the two triangles facing in opposite directions.

In the version after Fig. 13 two parallel side surfaces are provided, which are connected via rounded areas.

In FIGS. 14 to 22 possible shapes for the outer envelope 5 are shown, namely in Fig. 14 total conical, in Fig. 15 overall cylindrical, in Fig. 16 convex, convex, in Fig. 17 a conical combined with a convex-convex course, in Fig. 18 a cylindrical course combined with a conical end section, in Fig. 19 an opposite to the soul formed by the twisted wires 3, 4 asymmetric course, down straight and above convex, convex, in Fig. 20 a concave course, in Fig. 21 a cylindrical course of the inner envelope 7 and at a distance thereof a cylindrical course of the outer envelope 5, each with a conical end portion and Fig. 22 a curved one Course of the twisted wires 3, 4 and a tapered end portion.
