- section 8 there are various possibilities in terms of the manufacturing process. It is thus conceivable to connect section 8 to section 7 before the drilling part 5 is manufactured or after its manufacture. It is precisely because of the special choice of material of the two stainless sections 7 and 8 that it is possible to harden section 8 beforehand or after the two sections 7 and 8 have been joined. - the two sections 7 and 8 of the shaft 2 are connected to one another at their mutually facing end regions (represented by the line 9).
- This parting plane can be placed so that the thread 6 is guided over both sections 7 and 8, so that after the mutual connection of the two sections 7 and 8, the thread is only produced. But it is also conceivable to provide this connection area in such a way that in section 8 only the drilling part 5 and in section 7 the shaft 2 with the rolled thread 6 is present.
- the drilling part 5 is designed as a drilling plate which is inserted into a corresponding slot at the free end of the shaft 2 forming the section 7 and fastened in this slot.
- the entire shaft 2 together with the screw head 3 can thus be regarded as section 7, whereas section 8 is formed exclusively by the drilling part 5 designed as a drilling plate.
- a self-drilling fastener of any kind can be used, although even with self-drilling screws 1, such a large screw head 3 as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 need not be provided. It would also be conceivable to provide practically only one type of shank 2, which is provided with an internal tool attack at the end facing away from the drilling part 5. However, it would also be possible to provide a type of pin with tool engagement at this end of the screw, the pin of the pin having the outer dimension being equal to or smaller than the outer thread diameter.

Abstract
Description
Selbstbohrender Befestiger Self-drilling fastener
The invention relates to a self-drilling fastener made of stainless steel with a shaft formed at one end with a tool attack and at the other end with a drilling part, which optionally has a thread on a partial section.
There are more and more demands for fasteners made of stainless steel, which can be used in particular in construction, which offer sufficient strength and also bring optimal drilling properties with them.
So far it has generally been assumed that a fastener made of carbon steel is to be attached to fasteners made of stainless steel, which for strength reasons must consist of an austenitic steel. With these then correspondingly hardenable drilling parts, however, there is the disadvantage that rust formation takes place when the parts are exposed accordingly. For aesthetic reasons alone, there is a demand to provide other training options for self-drilling fasteners.
A screw made of stainless steel has already become known (EP 0 861 379 B1), in which a first shaft section made of austenitic steel and the screw tip having a screw head made of martensitic steel with a carbon content of less than 0.01 have a screw head % are provided. Such a design is already in the direction of a completely rustproof screw, but this minimum carbon content of less than 0.01% does not yet result in optimal drilling properties.
The present invention has therefore set itself the task of creating a self-drilling fastener of the type mentioned, in which there is both the requirement of the stainless material in the load-bearing area of the fastener, but in which optimal drilling performance can also be achieved despite the stainless design of the fastener in the area of the drilling part.
According to the invention, this is achieved in that the shaft is formed from two sections of rustproof material which are positively, materially and / or non-positively connected to one another, the first section of the shaft having a tool attack and optionally a threaded region made of a rust-free, purely ferritic or austenitic steel or a duplex stainless steel and the second section of the shaft, which is designed as a drilling part or has the drilling part, is formed from a martensitic, stainless steel with a carbon content of 0.04% to 0.3%.
This results in very good connection options for the two sections, since two materials with practically the same thermal expansion are used. Both sections can be described as rust-free, but the drilling properties can be significantly improved by the increased carbon content in the martensitic, stainless steel. An optimal design of a fastener is possible because the load-bearing area has corresponding strength values and the drilling area has excellent drilling properties despite the rustproof design, because sufficient hardening is possible due to the corresponding carbon content.
So it is easily possible with a self-drilling fastener of the type according to the invention to also pierce stainless steel sheets.
The use of martensitic, stainless steel with a carbon content of 0.04% to 0.3% also gives rise to the possibility that the second section is hardened in a belt furnace. In this way, an optimal and cost-effective way can be used to harden this section accordingly, particularly in the case of large-scale industrial production of fasteners.
Furthermore, it is also possible for the second section to be induction hardened.
All in all, a simple manufacturing process for a self-drilling fastener made of stainless steel is guaranteed.
In a special embodiment, it is proposed that the martensitic, stainless steel has a proportion of 0.04% to 0.3% carbon and 8% to 20% chromium and also contains proportions of molybdenum, nitrogen, manganese and nickel. This combination of materials ensures that there is optimal cold forming for the production of the drill part and that sufficient hardness can be achieved to produce a hole in a wide variety of materials.
A specific embodiment provides that the martensitic, stainless steel has a content of 0.1% carbon and 11.6% chromium and also contains 0.01% nitrogen, 0.6% manganese and 0.2% nickel , It is further proposed that the first and the second section are connected to one another by means of welding, soldering, gluing, joining, pressing in or the like. The choice of material for the two sections results in homogeneous, non-embrittling connection zones, even if a welding process is carried out at correspondingly high temperatures. Especially with these two sections to be connected, there are also excellent possibilities for mutual connection by soldering, gluing, joining or pressing. All variants of the mutual connection of the two sections are therefore open, depending on the structural design of the self-drilling fastener and on the use for which such a self-drilling fastener is intended.
In the context of the invention it is also possible that the fastener has a surface treatment by passivation. Additional protection can be achieved in this way and, in addition, the drilling performance and the forming torque during thread production can also be improved by an appropriate surface treatment.
Es zeigen:Further features according to the invention and special advantages are explained in more detail in the following description with reference to the drawing. Show it:
Fig. 1 eine Schraube mit einem Bohrteil in Seitenansicht;Figure 1 is a screw with a drilling part in side view.
Fig. 2 shows a screw in side view with a drilling part designed as a drilling plate.
The invention is based on a self-drilling fastener, since the features according to the invention can be used for all types of self-drilling fasteners. In the description below, reference is made to examples relating to a self-drilling screw. However, the measures according to the invention can be used in the same way for self-drilling rivets, self-drilling bolts or self-drilling dowels.
In einem solchen Falle ist es auch möglich, den Bohrteil 5 nach dem Eindrehen der Schraube leicht zu entfernen.1 and 2, a self-drilling screw 1 is shown, which has a shaft 2, a screw head 3 with a tool attack 4 and a drilling part 5. The shaft 2 can optionally have a thread 6. In the case of a screw 1, a thread 6 or a corresponding thread area is of course always provided. However, if it is a matter of self-drilling dowels or self-drilling bolts or self-drilling rivets, no such threaded area is generally provided. In the embodiment according to FIG. 1, the shaft 2 is now formed from two sections 7 and 8, both sections 7 and 8 being formed from a stainless material. These sections 7 and 8 are positively, materially and / or non-positively connected, for example by welding, soldering, gluing, joining, pressing or the like. However, a purely positive connection is also possible, namely in one section 7 or 8 on the mutual contact surface an opening and on the other section 7 or 8 there is a corresponding bolt, wherein a corresponding positive engagement is possible by appropriate design (for example, square or hexagonal cross section). In such a case, it is also possible to easily remove the drilling part 5 after the screw has been screwed in.
The first section 7 of the shank, which has the tool attack 4, that is to say the screw head 3 and the thread 6 in the present case, is formed from a stainless, purely ferritic or austenitic steel. As a result, the required strength values can be achieved, which are required when using screws, for example in building construction. It is also conceivable here to use a duplex stainless steel which is equivalent to the purely ferritic or austenitic steel in terms of its stainless properties and also its strength.
The second section 8 of the shaft 2, designed as a drilling part 5, is formed from a martensitic, stainless steel with a carbon content of 0.04% to 0.3%.
It is particularly advantageous if the martensitic, stainless steel has a proportion of 0.04% to 0.3% carbon and 8% to 20% chromium and also contains proportions of molybdenum, nitrogen, manganese and nickel. Optimal results can be achieved if the martensitic, stainless steel contains 0.1% carbon and 11.6% chromium and also contains 0.01% nitrogen, 0.6% manganese and 0.2% nickel.
A screw according to FIGS. 1 and 2 can of course also be subjected to a surface treatment, passivation being advantageous. However, there are also other surface treatment options.
Vom Herstellungsverfahren her gesehen ergeben sich verschiedene Möglichkeiten. There are various possibilities in terms of the manufacturing process. It is precisely because of the special carbon content that it is possible to easily achieve one To carry out curing in a belt furnace, so that industrial production of large masses is guaranteed. Furthermore, inductive hardening of the second section 8 is also conceivable.
The two sections 7 and 8 of the shaft 2 are connected to one another at their mutually facing end regions (represented by the line 9). This parting plane can be placed so that the thread 6 is guided over both sections 7 and 8, so that after the mutual connection of the two sections 7 and 8, the thread is only produced. But it is also conceivable to provide this connection area in such a way that in section 8 only the drilling part 5 and in section 7 the shaft 2 with the rolled thread 6 is present.
Auch bei einer solchen Konstruktion können die besonderen Vorteile der Materialwahl der beiden Abschnitte 7 und 8 optimal ausgenützt werden.2 it can be seen that the drilling part 5 is designed as a drilling plate which is inserted into a corresponding slot at the free end of the shaft 2 forming the section 7 and fastened in this slot. The entire shaft 2 together with the screw head 3 can thus be regarded as section 7, whereas section 8 is formed exclusively by the drilling part 5 designed as a drilling plate. Even with such a construction, the particular advantages of the choice of material for the two sections 7 and 8 can be optimally used.
Within the scope of the invention, a self-drilling fastener of any kind can be used, although even with self-drilling screws 1, such a large screw head 3 as shown in FIGS.
