Abstract

A lever-operated device for applying pressure by means of a push rod (24) can be provided with a means (20) for engaging the push rod that is shaped to increase the translocation of the push rod (24) that can be achieved when the lever (25) is operated. The means (20) for engaging the push rod (24) may have a sloped or curved surface, against which part of the lever bears.
