Ein PC-Monitor stellt hochauflösende Bilder mit ergonomischen Bildwechselfrequenzen von >72 Hz dar, wobei ein TV-Gerät in der Regel technisch nur in der Lage ist, Bildwechselfrequenzen von 50 Hz bzw. 100 Hz bei hochwertigen Geräten zu verarbeiten. Daraus ergibt sich, daß, sollte ein PC-System zum Betrieb an einem TV-Gerät verwendet werden, das PC-System entsprechend angepaßt werden müßte, da herkömmliche PC-Systeme nicht in der Lage sind, die geforderten 50Hz-Bildsignale bereitzustellen. Es ist dabei denkbar, daß die Überprüfung der Art des angeschlossenen Gerätes zur Darstellung vom BIOS des Computersystemes beim Hochfahren durchgeführt wird, von einer auf dem Computersystem installierten Software, oder aber zunächst vom BIOS des Computersystemes beim Hochfahren sowie zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt durch eine auf dem Computersystem installierte Software. Vorzugsweise wird bei der Erkennung eines PC-Monitors als angeschlossenem Gerät zur Darstellung eine Bildwechselfrequenz von > 72 Hz und bei der Erkennung eines angeschlossenen TV-Gerätes eine Bildwechselfrequenz von 50 Hz aktiviert. Die Vorrichtung weist dabei vorzugsweise ein eigenes BIOS auf, durch das die Überprüfung der Art des angeschlossenen Gerätes zur Darstellung für die entsprechende Einstellung der Bildwechselfrequenz, Auflösung und Bildwiedergabe erfolgt. Denkbar ist entsprechend dem oben beschriebenen Verfahren aber auch, daß die Überprüfung der Art des angeschlossenen Gerätes zur Darstellung für die entsprechende Einstellung der Bildwechselfrequenz, Auflösung und Bildwiedergabe durch einen auf dem Computersystem installierten Softwaretreiber gesteuert ist.
