Definitions
- the invention relates to a fuel cell which has a membrane electrode assembly, two current collectors and / or one Cell frame or a bipolar plate comprises, at least a solid construction part with low weight and high corrosion resistance of the material used.
- Cell frames, bipolar plates, collector plates are known to date and / or other solid structural parts of fuel cells, especially of low temperature fuel cells like the PEM fuel cell, made of graphite or others Carbon materials are made.
- the thickness of, for example made from it is due to the incorporated gas and liquid distribution structure at least 2 to 2.5 mm and thus results despite less Density of the material a comparatively high weight and large volume of constructed fuel cells.
- EP 0 629 015 A1 describes materials for bipolar or Collector plates revealed the following alloys or metals: Aluminum, titanium or alloys thereof, zircon, Niobium, tantalum or alloys from one of these five Elements. It also discloses that these elements can be passivated by protective electrically insulating oxides can and that alternatively to the above metals the plates are also made of more corrosion-resistant materials such as graphite, high-alloy, stainless steel or nickel-chrome alloys could be. More detailed information on the composition well suited alloys from these metals are not yet known.
- the carbon materials are too heavy for mass production and too expensive to manufacture cell frames, current collectors and / or bipolar plates etc.
- the metals in turn have too high susceptibility to corrosion and exhibit, because of their Passivation due to oxide layer formation too high losses during Electricity transport within the fuel cell.
- the invention relates to a fuel cell which comprises a membrane electrode assembly, two current collectors and / or a cell frame and / or a bipolar plate, the material at least one of the solid structural parts being made of an Fe-based material which consists of the alloys with the following Compositions is selected: Content of C 0 - 0.06% by weight Si content 0 - 2% by weight Cr 8.25 - 46.5% by weight Mo 1.25 - 14.0% by weight Ni content 2.25 - 40.5% by weight Cu content 0 - 4.0% by weight Mn content 0 - 13% by weight Content of N 0.02 - 1% by weight Content of Nb 0 - 0.5% by weight P content 0 - 0.09% by weight Content of S 0 - 0.06% by weight Fe content remaining 100% by weight.
- Fe is a basic material based on iron Main component of the alloy used according to the invention, where the designation main ingredient does not have percentages is definable, but relative to the other components is seen.
- the present invention also relates to its use an alloy based on iron with one of the above compositions in the construction of a Fuel cell.
- the Fe-based material for the current collectors and / or the cell frame and / or the bipolar plate is preferably selected from the following alloys: Content of C 0 - 0.03% by weight Si content 0 - 1% by weight Cr 16.5 - 25.0% by weight Mo 2.5 - 7.0% by weight Ni content 4.5 - 26.0% by weight Cu content 0 - 2.0% by weight Mn content 0 - 6.5% by weight Content of N 0.04 - 0.5% by weight Content of Nb 0 - 0.25% by weight P content 0 - 0.045% by weight Content of S 0 - 0.03% by weight Fe content missing remainder to 100 wt .-%
- the invention is the Fe-based material for that at least a solid structural part selected from an alloy, whose active sum ⁇ 26.9 and particularly preferably one whose active sum is> 30.
- the Fe base material additionally surface-treated to the To reduce contact resistance.
- the treatment e.g. with titanium nitride.
- the surface treatment can also be coated with conductive polymers Plastics can be realized. Basically all known Surface treatments to reduce contact resistance with the same or improved corrosion resistance find application here.
- “fixed construction part” e.g. Cell borders, Current collectors and / or collector, bipolar, termination and / or Pole plates or another construction part, such as a frame element, etc. understood that makes sense a material that is dimensionally stable under normal conditions is. It can be square, round, tubular and other structural parts, which in turn any have embossed or otherwise formed surface structures can act, in which then either cooling medium or reaction medium flows or into the membrane electrode assembly is clamped. Finally, it can also be a sealing element his. An axial channel or a tie rod can also be practical or part of an axial channel or a tie rod be obtained from the material used in accordance with the invention.
- Fe-based materials For use as plates with gas and / or liquid distribution structure have the used according to the invention Fe-based materials a small thickness of 20 to 300 microns, preferred 50 to 200 ⁇ m and particularly preferably approximately 100 microns. For use as pole or end plates or other Applications may be completely different thicknesses the plate expedient. Depending on the solid construction part, for which the alloy is used according to the invention increases the weight reduction achieved by the invention of the fuel cell of course with the thickness of the part.
- Alloy 1.4539 (material numbers) Content of C 0 - 0.02% by weight Cr 19.0 - 21.0% by weight Mo 4.0 - 5.0% by weight Ni content 24.0 - 26.0% by weight Cu content 1.0 - 2.0% by weight Content of N 0.04 - 0.15% by weight Fe content missing remainder to 100 wt .-%

- Alloy 1.4439 Content of C 0 - 0.03% by weight Cr 16.5 - 18.5% by weight Mo 4.0 - 5.0% by weight Ni content 12.5 - 14.5% by weight Content of N 0.12 - 0.22% by weight Fe content missing remainder to 100 wt .-% Alloy 1.4565: Content of
- the materials mentioned according to the invention also have a comparatively high corrosion resistance even with direct contact of the plates and / or the Frame elements with the acidic electrolyte. Furthermore they have a good thermoforming quality and are therefore easy to form. After all, they have a low contact resistance, which is further optimized by appropriate surface treatment can be.
