Abstract

The limiting device has an arm with an angled section (8) of which one end is hinged to a plate (4) fixed to the frame (1) and the other end (12) is hinged to a branch (14) forming the bolt of the limiting mechanism. It has a tongue (15) which fits into the opening in a strike plate (17) on the upright (2) of the sliding window. The tongue section has a cross piece (16) at the end. The opening (19) in the strike plate is formed by a solid arc (20) with an opening which prevents the tongue being inserted into or removed from the opening unless the window is closed. The opening is parallel to the direction in which the window moves. The strike plate has an elastic component (23) which pushes the tongue towards the inside.

Description

The invention relates to an opening limiter for sliding bays.

We know various devices to limit the opening of bays, but these limiters, even if they are placed inside a room, do not prohibit generally not the complete opening of the bay by maneuvering the limiter from the exterior, see for example document US-A-4,762,351.

The present invention perfectly solves the problem set out above for sliding bays, by creating a device making it possible to maintain in security open windows, whether doors or windows type sliding windows, or sliding type windows vertical, generally called sash windows, used in some countries Anglo-Saxon.

The device according to the invention, while allowing ventilation of the room and a passage of pets, prohibited to people coming from outside further open the bay to enter the room.

In addition, because of its constitution, the device prohibits young children to open the bay more prominently from inside a room and exit towards the outside, in the event that this bay gives for example on a balcony or terrace.

According to the invention, the opening limiter for sliding bays is characterized in that it comprises an arm formed by a first part of preferably angled with a first end mounted so articulated on a plate fixed to the frame of the window frame and whose the other end is articulated to a branch forming the limiter bolt and having a tongue, the tongue being intended to penetrate into the opening of a strike forming part carried by the amount of the bay sliding, associated means being provided on the tongue and on the part forming a keeper so that the tongue cannot enter and leave the opening of the striker part only when the bay is in the closed position.

An embodiment of the object of the invention is shown as example not limiting to the accompanying drawing.

Figure 1 shows the sliding door in the closed position, the limiter according to the invention being in the rest position on the frame of the frame.

Figure 2 also shows the bay in the closed position, but with the end tab of the limiter arm inserted in the opening of a part forming a keeper.

Figure 3 shows the bay ajar in the maximum open position, the limiter in its maximum extension position and the tongue end inside the keeper part.

Figure 4 is a perspective view on a larger scale of the part forming a keeper of the limiter according to the invention.

Figure 5 is a section along the line V-V of Figure 4 and illustrates a particular feature of the invention.

In the drawing, there is shown a sliding bay seen from inside a room and formed of a frame comprising a fixed or standing part 1 and a upright 2 for the actual sliding window which includes a window 3.

Although the sliding window shown is a sliding window horizontal, the invention is not limited to such an embodiment and extends to any sliding window whether it's a sliding door or window or a sash type window whose sliding is vertical.

On the frame 1 is fixed a plate 4 and on the plate 4 pivots a part 5 around an axis 6.

The opening limiter according to the invention is represented as a whole by the reference 7 and consists of an articulated arm of which a first part 8 is of preferably angled at 9. A first end 10 of the angled portion 8 is articulated at 11 on the part 5 pivotally connected to the plate 4.

The other end 12 of the bent part 8 of the limiter arm 7 is articulated in 13 to a branch 14.

The branch 14 forms the male part or bolt of the limiter 7 and presents at its end a bent tongue 15 comprising a cross 16 (Fig. 4).

As can be seen in particular in FIG. 4, the bent tab 15 of the branch 14 forming the bolt of the limiter cooperates with a part shown in as a whole by the reference 17 and which forms the keeper.

The striker part 17 is fixed by screws 18 to the upright 2 of the bay sliding and has an opening 19 oriented substantially parallel to the movement of the sliding door and which is intended for entry and the exit of the bent tab 15.

According to the invention, the opening 19 is extended by a solid part arcuate 20 having two parallel branches 21a and 21b. The branches 21a and 21b are intended to guide the spider 16 during a rotation of the tongue 15 produced as indicated below, and the spider 16 comprises at this effect of the notches 22 while an elastic blade 23 (Fig. 5) is provided to press the cross against the arched part 20.

The opening limiter according to the invention operates in the manner indicated below.

In Fig. 1, the limiter is in a rest position on the frame 1. In this position, the upright 2 of the bay can slide freely relative to the sleeping. So as to fix the limiter on the frame and prevent it from pivot freely, it is possible to provide that the plate 4 present on its above a hole 24 and that the pivoting part 5 has on its inner face a spring-mounted ball not visible in the drawing and intended to penetrate into the hole 24 for maintaining the pivoting part 5 and therefore the assembly of the limiter 7 which can no longer pivot on its own.

In Fig. 2, the limiter arm 7 was then pivoted relative to the position of Fig. 1 against the action of the spring of the ball mentioned above in turning the bent part 8 by hand to bring it into a position substantially horizontal.

It is then possible to introduce the bent tongue 15 of the branch 14 into the opening 19. By then sliding the opening, the spider 16 is brought to follow the arched part 20, the branches 21a and 21b of which then enter the notches 22 of the crosspiece. In addition, the elastic blade 23 presses the cross against the arched part.

In Fig. 3, the limiter has reached its maximum extension position and the spider 16 is stuck inside the keeper portion 17. It is then more possible to further open the bay.

In this position, and due to the jamming of the consecutive elements of the opening limiter according to the invention, it becomes impossible for young people children to fully open the bay so that they can exit to the outside, in the case where this bay would give for example on a balcony or a terrace.

It can also be seen from the above that the limiter according to this invention allows room ventilation and passage of pets and that it however prohibits people coming from outside to open the bay more significantly than that shown in FIG. 3 to enter inside.

Indeed, any movement of the limiter to loosen the spider and bring it to exit through opening 19 following the arched parts can only be done in the closed position of the opening shown in FIG. 2.

In the above position, it is then possible to remove the branch 14 from the part 17 and put the entire limiter in the state of FIG. 1, but this can only be done from the inside.

The invention is not limited to the embodiment shown and described in detail because various modifications can be added without leaving its frame.

Claims (5)

1. Device for limiting the opening of sliding wings comprising an arm which is formed of a first portion (8), preferably bent, a first end (10) of which is pivotaly mounted onto a base plate (4) fixed onto the wing frame (1) and the other end (12) of which is articulated to a leg (14) which forms the sliding bolt of the limiting device and has a portion (15) provided for entering the aperture (19) of a keeper (17) carried by the side (2) of the sliding wing, associated means (16; 20-23) being provided onto this portion (15) and keeper (17) so that said portion (15) cannot go in and out the keeper aperture but only when said wing is in a closed position, characterized in that said portion (15) is tongue shaped and is provided with an end crosspiece (16), the aperture (19) of the keeper (17) having an arcuate solid portion (20), so that the crosspiece (16) and therefore the tongue (15) cannot go in and out the aperture (19) but only when the wing is closed, the crosspiece being movable by following the arcuate portion between the wing opening and closing positions.
2. Device for limiting the opening of sliding wings according to claim 1, characterized in that the aperture (19) of the keeper (17) is oriented in a substantially parallel manner to the moving direction of the sliding wing and is followed by the arcuate solid portion (20).
3. Device for limiting the opening of sliding wings according to one of claims 1 or 2, characterized in that the keeper (17) comprises a resilient part (23) tending to insidely bias the tongue (15).
4. Device for limiting the opening of sliding wings according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the first end (10) of the bent portion (8) is pivotally mounted onto the base member (4) by means of a pivoting part (5).
5. Device for limiting the opening of sliding wings according to claim 4, characterized in that the pivoting part (5) is provided with a spring mounted ball designed to cooperate with a hole (24) provided in the base member (4) for maintaining the pivoting piece in a rest position.
