An apparatus is described for the emergency respiration of a patient which is packed to be very small and which achieves the state of use of the respiratory mask in routine operation through volume growth of a foam body.

Description

Verpackte Beatmunαsmaske Packed Beatmunαsmaske
The invention relates to a packaged respiratory mask according to the preamble of claim 1, which enables the user to ventilate a patient mouth-to-mouth, mouth-to-nose or with a resuscitation bag without contact with skin, mucous membrane or body secretions. Such a breathing mask is known from US Pat. No. 5,121,745. This known mask is self-inflating and has a bead that can be filled with air.
Ventilation masks are known in a wide variety of areas of medicine, in particular in anesthesia and emergency medicine. These masks normally cover the mouth and nose area and consist of elastic material. The masks are lightly pressed on by hand or held by ribbons. Such masks are known from GB-PS 841 104, DE 42 12 259 Cl, DE 43 12 215 Cl or from US 3 538 913.
In resuscitation situations, the first-aider, if no corresponding medical equipment is on site, promotes mouth-to-mouth or mouth-to-nose ventilation to maintain oxygenation. In this case, physical contact can lead to the transmission of infectious diseases. Ventilation is carried out by specialist personnel until a ventilation tube is inserted into the trachea by means of a bell-shaped mask enclosing the mouth and nose and sealed off from the outside by a bead and a compressible balloon connected thereto with an oxygen supply.
So far, various aids have been offered to first-aiders to protect against contamination. These are characterized either by too bulky packing volume or by insufficient protection against contamination (covering the mouth and nose with a film). Some have to be inserted deep into the patient's mouth with a mouthpiece (DE-GM 87 09 867).
A breathing mask made of integral foam is known from DE-OS 22 44 887, inside which a plexiglass stiffener runs.
It is the problem (object) on which the invention is based to further develop a respiratory mask of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that it can be manufactured more easily and takes up a smaller pack volume in the compressed state.
This object is achieved by the features of patent claim 1.
The solution according to the invention creates a mask which is packaged very small when not in use (key fob principle) and at the same time is easy and quick to use. The mask does not pose any risk of injury to the patient and, when ready for use, resembles a normal ventilation mask. Thus, on the one hand, after resuscitation started by the first aider, it can be used by the specialist staff until the introduction of a ventilation hose. On the other hand, the mask according to the invention in Emergency equipment that has to be packed in small packages (mountain rescue service, helicopter, expedition, ...) that replace previously known and relatively bulky masks.
Advantageous embodiments of the invention are described in the subclaims.
The dimensions of the housing can correspond to that of a film cartridge. The foam body can be compressed by means of vacuum and can be welded into film. By breaking the vacuum, the mask can be brought into the shape of use in a matter of seconds. It is also conceivable for the mask shape to form and harden by foaming two liquid foam components in the preformed film.
It is therefore essential for the device according to the invention that instead of the bulky masks or small masks used hitherto without adequate protection, a compressible foam body is now used which, when ready for use, is very similar to the respiratory masks used in everyday clinical practice to induce anesthesia. This increases acceptance among specialist staff. Due to the small packing volume, constant carrying is promoted (key fob principle), which is advantageous in that resuscitation situations can occur anytime and anywhere. Placing a respiratory mask in the first aid kit of a car is generally insufficient.
The housing can have predetermined breaking seams. Furthermore, a filter or a check valve can be provided in the dome area of the mask, which provides additional protection against contamination even in the case of mouth-to-mask ventilation.
The mask according to the invention is a disposable item. The foam body can, however, as Recycling measure after separation of a film enveloping it and after appropriate cleaning be reintroduced into a new film.
Es zeigen:An embodiment of the invention is explained purely by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings. Show it:
Fig. 1 eine perspektivische Ansicht einer verpack¬ ten Beatmungsmaske gemäß der Erfindung; und1 shows a perspective view of a packaged ventilation mask according to the invention; and
Fig. 2 eine perspektivische Ansicht einer erfin¬ dungsgemäßen Beatmungsmaske in ihrem Gebrauchszustand.2 shows a perspective view of a respiratory mask according to the invention in its state of use.
Fig. 2) eingeschweißt. Das Gehäuse 1 läßt sich öffnen, indem die Sollbruchnähte 3 geöffnet werden.1 shows a housing 1 in which the compressed respiratory mask is located, which in practice has, for example, a base area of 4 cm in diameter and a height of approximately 5 cm. The compressed foam body 2 (see FIG. 2) is welded into this housing, which consists of plastic film. The housing 1 can be opened by opening the predetermined breaking seams 3.
As can be seen from FIG. 1, the predetermined breaking seams 3, which are incorporated into the film, run parallel next to one another and on the cylindrical outer surface of the housing 1. In the center of the housing 1, a further predetermined breaking seam is provided, which is designed as Circumferential seam is formed. In this way, the housing can be opened very easily by gripping the two housing halves, which lie on both sides of the peripheral seam, with one hand and rotating them against one another. As a result, the predetermined breaking seams 3 of the housing 1 burst open suddenly, so that the foam body 2 of the respiratory mask can expand. As long as the ventilation mask is in its compressed Condition in the housing, it can be easily transported. For this purpose, a pendant or keychain (Fig. 1) can be provided, which is attached to the housing.
Fig. 2 zeigt die erfindungsgemäße Beatmungsmaske 2 in ihrem Gebrauchszustand. Unter dieser Öffnung 4 befindet sich ein Rück¬ schlagventil 5.2 shows the respiratory mask 2 according to the invention in its state of use. A normalized opening 4 is provided at the top of the mask, through which breathing gas can be blown in. A check valve 5 is located below this opening 4.
The shape of the welded-in foam body (FIG. 1) corresponds to an approximately triangular, all-round bead for sealing on the face (dome-like bell) when in use (FIG. 2). For example, the mask can be sealed and the mouth and nose can be pressed onto the face without the nose or mouth being constricted, air can be introduced into the mask and thus into the mouth and mouth using a connected bag or a ventilation tube or with the help of the mouth to blow the patient's nose.
