Abstract

The device has a feeder (1) to position sheets on supports (4) on a continuous conveyor. The supports have support edges (8), which in at least the area of the working stations (1) extend at an angle to the direction of travel (3) of the conveyor (16), e.g. an angle of 30-60 degrees , e.g. 45 degrees . The sheet feeder opens each sheet along its free edges (12) opposite to the fold (7), and then places each one on a support, in a feed direction, which is angled relative to the conveyor direction. The supports are fastened pivoted and liftable to the conveyor.

Description

The invention relates to a device for processing folded printed sheets with at least one work station arranged on a conveying path, a work station being a printed sheet feeder that separates and opens the printed sheets, with an endlessly rotating conveyor element and a plurality of supports to be fed to the printed sheet feeder, one after the other are arranged on the conveying member and on which the printed sheets can be supported riding in the area of their folds in each case on a support edge of the respective support, the supports being guided past the work station at a mutual distance from one another.

A device of this type has become known in the prior art from EP - A - 0 551 055 by the applicant. This is used to collect and then staple printed products. Before being stapled, the printed products are supplied to a conveyor with spreading rungs extending transversely to the transport direction.

Another saddle stitcher shows EP-A-0 681 923, but here the support edges of the supports extend parallel to the conveying direction.
The removal of folded paper sheets from a stack and the depositing of such sheets on a conveying device has been known for a long time, as shown in CH - A - 408 065 from 1961.

However, devices of the type mentioned with supports extending transversely to the transport direction have not become established in practice. The reason for this is that the loading is comparatively complex here. Devices that have supports that extend parallel to the direction of conveyance, on the other hand, have proven themselves in practice, but have the disadvantage that a further increase in the transport speed and thus the output is possible to a limited extent.

The invention has for its object to provide a device of the type mentioned, which allows a higher performance with simple feeding of the printed sheets.

The object is achieved in a generic device in that the support edges of the supports extend at least in the area of a work station obliquely to the conveying direction of the conveying member.
In the device according to the invention, compared with a device with longitudinal transport according to EP-A-0 681 923, a higher output can be achieved with the same conveying speed, since the printed sheets can follow one another in a denser row. Since the support edges extend obliquely to the conveying direction of the conveyor element, the supports can be load much easier. The invention thus enables simple loading on the one hand and higher performance on the other hand.
A stapling station and a card adhesive can also be used without problems in the device according to the invention.

Further advantageous features result from the dependent claims, the following description and the drawing.

Fig. 1

Fig. 2
Fig. 3
schematisch eine Teilansicht der erfindungsgemässen Einrichtung.
An embodiment of the invention is explained below with reference to the drawing. Show it:
Fig. 1
schematically a top view of a device according to the invention,
Fig. 2
schematically a side view of the device according to Figure 1, and
Fig. 3
schematically a partial view of the inventive device.

The device according to the invention has, according to FIGS. 1 and 2, a plurality of feeders 1, in which, according to FIG. 3, printing sheets 6 are opened individually from a stack magazine 13 by means of oppositely rotating opening bodies 16 and 17 and are each deposited on a saddle-shaped support 4. The saddle-shaped supports 4 are articulated on a conveyor element 16 with pivot axes 5, which are only shown schematically here. Each support 4 is provided at the upper end with a horizontally extending support edge 8 for receiving a approximately folded fold sheet 6 serves, as the saddle-shaped pad 4 5 shown on the left in Figure 3 shows. As can be seen in FIG. 3, the supports 4 1 - 4 5 or their support edges 8 in the area of the printed sheet receptacle are initially pivoted in the same direction and then in the opposite direction to the transport direction indicated by arrow 3. The drive energy for these swiveling movements can be derived from the conveyor element 16 with a crank drive, not shown here. By pivoting the supports 4, the relative speed of the support edges in the interaction area of the printing sheet feeder 1 can be reduced to the value 0, which makes it possible to simplify the organs acting on the supports 4. For this purpose, reference is made to the Swiss patent application No. 03088/95 dated November 1st, 1995. This application is used here for disclosure.

As shown in FIG. 1 in particular, the saddle-shaped supports 4 and the support edges 8 extend obliquely to the conveying path 2. Corresponding to this oblique orientation, the feeders 1 are also oriented obliquely to the conveying path 2. The stacking magazines 13 are then arranged such that an operator 18 stands laterally next to the device for refilling the stacking magazines 13, as shown in FIG. The operator 18 can be replaced by an automatic refill device. In the case of a device with support edges extending transversely to the conveying path 2, such an automatic refill device would have to be equipped with a complex deflection.

Vorteilhaft ist dieser Winkel etwa 45°.The conveyor 16, which transports the supports 4 in the direction of arrow 3, has two deflection wheels 19 and. 20 and two drive wheels 20 respectively. 19 on. These wheels 19 and 20 are each offset according to Figures 1 and 2 in the direction of arrow 3 corresponding to the inclination of the pads 4. The angle a indicated in FIG. 1 is greater than 0 ° and less than 90 °. It is preferably between 30 ° and 60 °. This angle is advantageously around 45 °.

It is conceivable that the loading process can be favored if the supports 4 for loading are designed to be raised and then lowerable.

In the exemplary embodiment shown, the sheet feeder 1 feeds the supports transversely to the support edges 8. However, an embodiment is also conceivable in which the supports 4 are loaded parallel to the support edges. In the case of such a parallel loading, the printed sheet feeders can be arranged laterally next to the conveying element 16 and refilling by an operator or an automatic device is also possible here in a simple manner.

So that the supports 4 can drive around the wheels 19 and 20, the distance between adjacent supports 4 is to be selected somewhat larger than the height of these supports 4. The supports 4 in the area of the upper run 16a and also in the area of the lower run 16b are preferably oriented obliquely to the conveying path 2. Basically, however, this oblique orientation is essential in the area of investors 1; in the area of a card adhesive 14 or a stapling station 15, the supports 4 can also run at right angles to the conveying direction (3).
