A device, particularly for prevention of bedsores, mounted on the underside of the mattress (1) of a sickbed, comprising a drive device (2) in the form of a gearwheel transmission unit with a ring or disc and driven by a motor and transmission unit (16), wherein the mattress (1) is connected by a retaining device to a top mounting of the drive device (2) and wherein the drive device (2) is disposed substantially symmetrically below the centre of gravity of the mattress,
    characterised in that
    the drive device (2), by means of which the mattress (1), a support and a patient thereon can be set in precessional motion around the drive device (2), has a top mounting (11) and a bottom mounting (10) and a gearwheel (18) in which a disc or ring (13) having an inclined surface rotates centrally is disposed between the top mounting (11) and the bottom mounting (10).

A device according to claim 1, characterised in that the top mounting (11) is connected by a retaining device (12) to the mattress (1) and the bottom mounting (10) is connected to a receiving frame (17), a connecting element (14) being disposed between the mattress (1) and the retaining device (12).
  3. A device according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the retaining device (12) so engages in the connecting element (14) by way of an abutment element (15) that the element (14) limits the deflection of the precessional motion of the mattress (1).
  4. A device according to any of the preceding claims, characterised in that the disc or ring (13) disposed inside the gearwheel (18) is in the form of an inclined disc or ring having an axial vertical dimension which varies around its periphery.
  5. A device according to any of the preceding claims, characterised in that the disc or ring (13) is incorporated in the gearwheel transmission unit of the drive device (2).
  6. A device according to any of the preceding claims, characterised in that means are provided for varying the frequency and amplitude of the precessional motion.
  7. A device according to any of the preceding claims, characterised in that the frequency of the precessional motion is from 1/10 minutes to 1 hour.
  8. A device according to any of the preceding claims, characterised in that the maximum amplitude of precessional motion reached in a circle of about 25 cm radius around the drive device (2) does not exceed a deflection of the mattress by about 3 cm out of the horizontal position.
  9. A device according to any of the preceding claims, characterised in that the drive device (2) is enclosed in a flexible cover which follows the precessional motion.
