Abstract

The capping head is designed to fix a capsule (11) on the top of a bottle neck by deformation. The capping head has a series of planetary rollers (4) which rotate around the capsule on rods (2). The rods are mounted on the cylindrical head by articulated joints (3) situated at the opposite end to the rollers. The head also has an intermediate outer member for applying a pressure to the rods, made in the form of a ring with a series of balance arms (6). The balance arms have their own pivots (7), are able to apply a pressure to the individual rollers, and equipped with springs. The ring which supports them is able to move up and down the head and be locked in the required position by spring-loaded balls.

Description

The present invention relates to the head placed in a capping machine, more particularly of the type of those which locate a metallic element on the stopper of a bottle, starting from a cylindrical element which is placed on the neck of the bottle, coating it completely. This element, thanks to casters, is flattened and deformed to fully adapt to the surface and configuration of the bottle.

(Brevet espagnol n° 342.710).The machines currently existing for this purpose, comprise a series of heads, all the same, consisting of an element which supplies the capsule and places it above the neck of the bottle; each head is provided with a series of planetary rollers which rotate, in accordance with the movements of the head around the capsule and on themselves and for this, they are mounted on an axis or rod. All of these rods are supported in the upper zone and present externally a means which puts pressure on all of these elements, forcing them to adapt to the differences in shape and size of the bottle to be capped. (Spanish patent n ° 342.710).

This external means of inter-relation between the different rods carrying the capsule plating rollers, is traditionally formed of a rubber ring or more which unite them and delimit their mobility. The main problem posed by this constructive solution is determined by the distensions that the rubber rings withstand when the operating temperature increases, which causes a reduction in the plating pressure as the operating time of the machine passes. The speed of rotation of the head to be encapsulated also has an influence because the greater the speed, the greater the centrifugal force and by consequently, the smaller the pressure exerted by the rollers on the capsule to be pressed and stretched.

In European patent application 0691302, the rods have been replaced by connecting rods which articulate at a central point and incorporate the rollers at their ends and which have at their opposite end a spring which presses and tends to hold the roller towards the interior. The pivot axes of these connecting rods and the coupling points of the springs which put pressure on them, are mounted on two separate bodies, the distance of which can be adjusted, thus controlling the pressure exerted by the set of rollers on the respective capsule, the type of bottle to be capped can be modified. This adjustment affects all the pendulums and consequently all the casters and can only be carried out with the machine stopped since it consists of a transverse screw which immobilizes in certain positions the upper body on which the tensioning springs are supported. .

The present invention is part of the conventional machine since it retains the traditional system of roller-carrying rods; its main objective consists in replacing the rubber rings by other metallic ones which incorporate a series of pendulums, in front of each rod, which put pressure on it in two points: a lower point constituted by a support zone called "finger "which abuts directly against the rod itself and an upper zone composed of the spring which is interposed between the body of the rod and this balance, which is articulated at an intermediate point, so that it pivots by exerting a more or less pressure on the upper and lower zone, depending on the position of the rod, the speed of the machine and other variables, but which maintains it at any time in tension so that it adapts perfectly to the body to be encapsulated.

These pendulums also have the particularity that their body has been designed so that it is provided with a greater mass in the upper zone than in the lower zone, which is precisely where the spring is interposed between this balance and the baguette; thus, if the speed of rotation of the head is high, it is normal for the centrifugal force to push with more force the set of rods and rollers outwards, but in the same way it also pushes outwards upper part of the pendulum and, consequently, the lower zone of the latter exerts greater pressure on the rod, in the opposite direction to that exerted by the centrifugal force on it, then tending to maintain it in its position and to adapt at any time to the element to be encapsulated, regardless of the speed of rotation of the head.

On the other hand, it should be noted that this ring is mounted on the head in a sliding way, being able to move voluntarily up and down, to place it at the adequate height, so that it exerts a greater or a smaller influence on the rods so that they can adapt on a larger or smaller scale to certain configurations and diameters of the bottle to be capped. This displacement can be predetermined and come to rest in calculated positions, thanks to one or more metal spheres which are pushed towards the outer ring by compression springs and for this this ring has a series of notches at different heights which determine as many immobilization positions. This adjustment operation can be carried out without interrupting the operation of the machine and it suffices to move this ring up or down to the predetermined height.

The object of the present invention will be better understood with the aid of the following description produced on the basis of a practical example of embodiment; this description is made on the basis of the drawings which accompany this description, in which:

Figure 1 shows an elevational view of a head to be encapsulated, as recommended by the present invention.

La Figure 2 montre une figure similaire à la précédente selon un plan B-B.Figure 2 shows a figure similar to the previous one according to a plane B-B.

Figures 3 and 4 show sections C-C and D-D marked in the previous figures.

The head to be encapsulated here represented comprises a circular support (1) on which are mounted a series of rods (2) which are articulated at an upper point (3) and which on the side of the lower end show rollers (4), these rods being provided with a tensioning means which tends to keep the rollers (4) stuck at all times to the bottle carrying the capsule (11) which it is claimed to fix. During the capping operations, a metal capsule (11) is placed on the upper part of the bottle and is held in its position by means of a press (10), the head then rotating at high speed, the set of rollers (4) affecting the cap (11), adapting and plating it until it is perfectly suited to the bottle, regardless of the size and configuration of the latter.

To be able to carry out this capping operation at high speed, a means has been provided pushing each of the rods (2) which tends to hold the rollers (4) towards the center of the head, that is to say, which flattens the capsule (11) perfectly. This thrust means is composed of an independent balance (6), mounted on an axis of rotation (7) which acts on the rod (2) at two points:
  • on a finger or lower fulcrum (8).
  • through the spring (9) which is introduced into the body of the balance (6) and which pushes this element and the rod (2) by pressing between the two, allowing by its deformation slight movements of approach and distance from the center of the strip (2), necessary so that the roller (4) adapts to the different configuration that the bottle may have in various areas.

According to an important characteristic of the present invention, provision has been made for the balance body (6) to have in its upper zone a mass substantially greater than in the lower zone, all this seen from the axis of rotation (7); in this way, when the speed of rotation of the head increases, the centrifugal force tends to separate the upper zone of the pendulum which, consequently, rocks and introduces the finger (8) further towards the center of the head, then pushing the rod (2) and corresponding wheel (4) and thus counteracting the effect of the centrifugal force which, in these elements, tends to separate them from the center.

Another important characteristic of the present invention is constituted by the means which make it possible to adjust the pressure of all the pendulums because, in this case, it is not necessary to interrupt the operation of the machine and it is not also not necessary to have recourse to the manipulation of the fixing screws or other similar elements since the worker moves up or down by hand the ring (5) carrying the set of rockers which, then , act at a higher or lower point on the rod (2) and therefore approach the lower end of the caster (4) on a larger or smaller scale towards the center of the head. This means which is shown in Figure 2, is composed of a series of notches (15) placed at different heights and a metal sphere (13) pushed by a spring (14), this ball acting on one of the cavities (15) so that it thus remains immobilized in this position. The centrifugal force which takes place when the head turns and subsequently the ring (5), cooperates in the same direction as the spring (14) and therefore maintains the sphere (13) in the cavity in which it was initially placed, thus making involuntary displacement of the ring (5) impossible when the capping operations are being carried out; obviously, if the head is stopped, a worker can manually move the ring (5) higher or lower and therefore place the ball (13) in front of another notch (15), leaving it in this position while bottles of the pre-established type are capped, since this adjustment will above all allow capping of bottles having a more or less large diameter and / or capsules more or less resistant to flattening and / or having different thicknesses and materials.

We do not consider it necessary to expand further in this description for any expert in the subject to understand the scope of the invention and the advantages derived therefrom.

The terms used in the writing of this thesis, should always be taken in a broad and non-limiting sense.

The materials, shape and arrangement of the elements will be subject to variation provided that this does not imply any alteration of the essential characteristics of the invention which are claimed below:

Capping head according to the preceding claims, characterized in that the balance-carrying ring (6) pushing the rods (2) is guided on the head (12) which it voluntarily travels up and down and has latching means in predetermined positions, consisting of one or more metal spheres (13) which are pushed towards the inner ring by compression springs (14), for which the head (12) has a series of 'notches (15) at different heights which, placed opposite these balls (13), determine the engagement positions to vary, the height varying, the tension exerted by each balance (6) as a whole on the rods ( 2) and the corresponding rollers (4), their position varying, closer or further from the point of assembly of the rods on the corresponding head.
