Definitions
- the invention relates to a starter contactor for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle according to the preamble of claim 1, as is known for example from document EP-A-595 698.
- the invention relates more particularly to a starter switch for a motor vehicle, of the type in which a sliding contact is mounted slidingly axially on a central section of a control rod cylindrical between an advanced rest position and a active back position, of the type in which the contact mobile is axially biased towards its rest position by elastic return means, and of the type in which a bearing surface of the movable contact cooperates with a rod abutment surface to determine the rest position of the contactor relative to the rod.
- the abutment surface of the rod consists of a steel thrust washer which is made axially integral with the control rod by additional fixing means.
- These additional fixing means are constituted by a claw fixing washer which is fitted by force on a free end of the control rod and which immobilizes the thrust washer against a shoulder radial of the control rod.
- This embodiment of the stop surface of the rod therefore has the disadvantage of requiring two specific parts which do not perform other functions.
- the object of the invention is to propose a new design of a contactor which allows reliable and economical mounting of the mobile contact on the control rod.
- the invention proposes a contactor of the type described above, characterized in that the rod control has a central housing, which passes through it transversely right through, and one side of which transverse rear forms a bearing surface for elastic return means of the mobile contact which are also supported against a rear face of the mobile contact, and in that the mobile contact, in advanced position of rest on the rod, is supported by a front face against a stop face arranged at the front of the central section of the rod.
- FIG. 1 shows a contactor 10 which comprises a housing 12 of axis X-X inside which a inductor winding 14 is intended to cause, using of a polar mass 16, an axial magnetic field capable of moving a movable core 18 axially between a rear rest position shown on the Figure 1 and a front position, axially offset towards the right considering figure 1.
- the front axial end 20 of the housing 12 is closed by a cover 22, a transverse wall 24 of which carries a input terminal 26 connected to a battery (not shown) of the motor vehicle and a power supply terminal 28 connected to the electric motor (not shown) of the starter.
- the terminals 26, 28 each have a terminal head 30, 32 arranged inside the contactor and the heads 30, 32 are intended to be electrically connected by a movable contact 34 in the form of a rectangular plate made of electrically conductive material.
- the movable contact 34 is arranged transversely in the contactor 10, between the pole ground 16 and the heads terminal 30, 32.
- the contactor 10 controls the supply of the electric starter motor supplied by the vehicle battery.
- Movements of the mobile contact 34 in the contactor 10 are controlled via a control rod 38 which can be moved axially from back to front in contactor 10 by the core 18.
- the rod 38 has a rear guide section 40 which crosses axially the polar mass 16 and of which the rear axial end 42 is controlled by the core mobile 18.
- the rear guide section 40 is extended by a central section 44, on which the movable contact slides and which is delimited at the rear by a radial collar outer 46 of larger diameter, and, at the front, by a free end 48 of smaller diameter.
- the central section 44 is therefore delimited axially by two rear radial 49 and front shoulder 51 surfaces.
- the movable contact 34 has a hole or orifice circular central 50 to allow its mounting sliding, between an advanced rest position and a backward position active, on the central section cylindrical 44 of the rod 38.
- a thrust washer 52 is engaged on the end free axial 48 of the rod 38 and it is held in bearing against the front radial shoulder surface 51 by a claw washer 53 which is force fitted on the free end 48.
- a helical compression spring 54 is arranged around the central section 44 of the rod 38, between the external radial collar 46 and a rear face 35 of the movable contact 34, so as to urge the latter axially towards its advanced rest position, advanced by relative to the rod 38, in which it is in support against the thrust washer 52.
- the movable core 18 When the movable core 18 is commanded towards its forward position, it drives with it the control rod 38 against a return spring 55 which is arranged axially at the front of the rod 38, bearing on the one hand against the claw washer 53 and on the other hand against the transverse wall 24 of the cover 22.
- the return spring 54 of the contact 34 causes the axial displacement of the movable contact 34 relative to the contactor 10 towards its position of closed circuit in which the movable contact 34 is in support against the two terminal heads 30, 32.
- control rod 38 then continues its movement axial towards the front, under the action of the movable core 18, this which causes compression of the return spring 54 of the movable contact 34, because the movable contact 34 is immobilized in axial support against the terminals 26, 28.
- the movable contact 34 then moves relative to the control rod 38 from its advanced rest position towards an active backward position, against its spring reminder 54.
- Figures 2 to 6 show the assembly in accordance with the teachings of the invention, of a movable contact on a control rod.
- the central section 44 of the control rod 38 consistent with the teachings of the invention is cylindrical, with a diameter greater than the diameter of the section rear guide 40, and has two lateral flats parallels 60 which extend over a rear portion 62 of the central section 44.
- the transverse spacing of the two flats 60 is greater than the diameter of the rear guide section 40 of the control rod 38, and the flats 60 extend over an axial length less than the axial length of the central section 44 so that the front end 64 of the central section 44 delimits the flats 60 at the front and forms front axial abutment surfaces 66 for the movable contact 34 in the rest position.
- the central opening 50 of the movable contact has at cross section the same shape as the rear portion 62 of the central section 44.
- the movable contact 34 is likely to be engaged around the rear section of guide 40 of rod 38 then, orienting it so around the axis X-X of the rod 38, so that make the profiles of the contact opening 50 coincide mobile 34 and rear portion 62 of the central section 44, the movable contact 34 is engaged on the section central 44 on which it is capable of sliding, forward, until it comes to a stop on the surfaces of front axial stop 66.
- the central section 44 includes a housing 56 which cross transversely from side to side, perpendicular to the plane of the flats 60 and which is intended to receive the return spring 54 of the contact mobile 34 to its rest position.
- the housing 56 has in cross section a substantially rectangular shape, as can be seen at Figure 2, and it is axially delimited in the central section 44 by a rear face 68 and a face before 70.
- the front face 70 of the housing 56 is carried out as an extension of the front stop surfaces 66 which delimit the flats 60, and the rear face 68 of the housing 56 is arranged in front of the end rear 72 of the central section 44 of the rod 38.
- the housing 56 also has two walls longitudinal 74 upper and lower 76 which are substantially flat and with a spacing greater than the spacing of the two flats 60.
- the return spring 54 is a helical spring of compression whose diameter is substantially equal to the spacing of the upper 74 and lower 76 walls of the housing 56.
- the diameter of the return spring 54 of the movable contact 34 is therefore greater than the spacing of the two flats 60 so that when the spring 54 is engaged axially in the housing 56, it extends transversely from the housing 56 at the level of each of the flats 60.
- the mounting of the movable contact 34 on the rod 38 is carried out as follows.
- the movable contact 34 is brought to its position of rest on the rod 38 so that a front face 78 of the movable contact either in contact with the abutment surfaces axial 66 of the central section 44.
- the return spring 54 is then compressed and engaged transversely according to arrow F in FIG. 2 in its housing so that it has one end rear 80 resting against the rear face 68 of the housing 56 and a front end 82 which is in abutment against a rear face 84 of the movable contact 34, which is possible because its diameter is greater than the spacing of two flats 60, and that it projects beyond the housing 56 because that the central opening 50 of the movable contact 34 is not circular but with a transverse profile identical to that of the rear portion 62 of the central section 44.
- the spring 54 urges the movable contact 34 towards its rest position, in abutment against the axial abutment surfaces 66 of the central section 44.
- the surface rear 68 of housing 56 is curved so as to help maintain the spring 54 inside the housing 56.
- the central section 44 of the rod 38 is extended axially forward by a free end section 48 of reduced diameter which thus delimits a surface axial support ring 86 for the return spring 55 from rod 38 to its rear position.

Description
A- 595 698.The invention relates to a starter contactor for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle according to the preamble of claim 1, as is known for example from document EP-A-595 698.
The invention relates more particularly to a starter switch for a motor vehicle, of the type in which a sliding contact is mounted slidingly axially on a central section of a control rod cylindrical between an advanced rest position and a active back position, of the type in which the contact mobile is axially biased towards its rest position by elastic return means, and of the type in which a bearing surface of the movable contact cooperates with a rod abutment surface to determine the rest position of the contactor relative to the rod.
According to a known design, the abutment surface of the rod consists of a steel thrust washer which is made axially integral with the control rod by additional fixing means.
These additional fixing means are constituted by a claw fixing washer which is fitted by force on a free end of the control rod and which immobilizes the thrust washer against a shoulder radial of the control rod. This embodiment of the stop surface of the rod therefore has the disadvantage of requiring two specific parts which do not perform other functions.
In addition, during the press fit of the washer claw on the end section of the rod, it can form chips which may then come off and disturb the operation of the contactor.
The object of the invention is to propose a new design of a contactor which allows reliable and economical mounting of the mobile contact on the control rod.

- la tige de commande est susceptible de se déplacer axialement dans le contacteur entre une position arrière et une position avant, et elle comporte une extrémité arrière de guidage de diamètre inférieur à l'écartement des deux méplats de manière à permettre le montage du contact mobile sur le tronçon central ;
- la tige de commande comporte une extrémité avant de diamètre inférieur à celui du tronçon central de manière à former une surface d'appui axial pour un ressort hélicoïdal de rappel de la tige vers sa position arrière ;
- la tige de commande est réalisée par moulage ;
- the control rod comprises two opposite parallel lateral flats which extend axially over at least the entire axial length of the central housing, which is greater than the stroke of the movable contact, and the elastic return means comprise a helical compression spring whose diameter is less than or equal to the transverse height of the housing so as to be received axially inside the housing, in that the diameter of the spring is greater than the spacing of the two lateral flats of the rod so as to protrude transversely from the housing in order to bear, by a front axial end, against the rear face of the movable contact while its rear axial end bears against the rear transverse face of the housing;
- the rear transverse face of the housing comprises a convex bending intended to maintain the rear end of the return spring of the movable contact centered inside the housing;

The front
The
de borne 30, 32.The
It may be moved in the
Thus, the
le noyau 18.Movements of the
mobile 18.The
The
paroi transversale 24 du capot 22.When the
de rappel 54.The
Figures 2 to 6 show the assembly in accordance with the teachings of the invention, of a movable contact on a control rod.
du tronçon central 44.The
The transverse spacing of the two
butée axiale avant 66.The
The
The
arrière 72 du tronçon central 44 de la tige 38.According to the embodiment of the invention shown
in the figures, the
logement 56.The
logement 56 au niveau de chacun des méplats 60.The diameter of the

axiale 66 du tronçon central 44.The

surfaces de butée axiale 66 du tronçon central 44.In this way, the

- A starter contactor for a motor vehicle, of the type in which a moving contact (34) is mounted for axial sliding movement on a central portion (44) of a cylindrical control rod (38), between an advanced rest position and a retracted working position, of the type in which the moving contact (34) is biased axially towards its rest position by resilient return means, and of the type in which an engagement surface (78) of the moving contact (34) is in cooperation with an abutment surface (66) of the rod so as to determine the rest position of the moving contact (34) with respect to the rod, characterised in that the control rod (38) includes a central housing (56) which extends transversely through it from side to side, and which has a rear transverse face (68) that constitutes an engagement surface for the resilient return means (54) of the moving contact (34), which also bear against a rear face (84) of the moving contact (34), and in that the moving contact (34), in its advanced rest position on the rod (38), is in engagement through a front face (78) against an axial abutment face (66) disposed in front of the central portion (44) of the rod (38).
- A contactor according to Claim 1, characterised in that the control rod (38) has two parallel, opposed lateral flats (60) which extend axially over at least the whole axial length of the central housing (56), which is greater than the course of travel of the moving contact (34), and in that the resilient return means consist of a helical compression spring (54) the diameter of which is smaller than or equal to the transverse height of the housing (56), so as to be received axially within the housing (56), and in that the diameter of the spring (54) is greater than the spacing between the two lateral flats (60) of the rod, whereby to extend transversely out of the housing (56) so as to come into engagement, through a front axial end, against the rear face (84) of the moving contact (34), while its rear axial end is in engagement against the rear transverse end (68) of the housing (56).
- A contactor according to Claim 2, characterised in that the rear transverse face (68) of the housing (56) includes a convex bulge adapted to keep the rear end of the return spring (54) for the moving contact (34) centred in the housing (56).
- A contactor according to Claim 3, characterised in that the flats (60) extend over a rear portion (62) of the central portion (44), so as to define, at the front end (64) of the central portion (44), axial abutment surfaces (66) for the moving contact (34) in the rest position, and in that the moving contact (34) is in the form of a substantially rectangular plate having a central aperture (50), the form of which, in transverse cross section, is substantially similar to that of the rear portion (62) of the central portion (44).
- A contactor according to Claim 4, characterised in that the control rod (34) is arranged to be displaceable axially in the contactor (34) between a rear position and a front position, and in that it has a rear guiding end portion (44), the diameter of which is smaller than the distance between the two flats (60), whereby to enable the moving contact (34) to be mounted on the central portion (44).
- A contactor according to Claim 5, characterised in that the control rod (38) has a front end portion (48), the diameter of which is smaller than that of the central portion (44), whereby to define an axial engagement surface (86) for a helical return spring (55) for returning the rod (38) to its rear position.
- A contactor according to any one of the preceding Claims, characterised in that the control rod (38) is made by moulding.
- A motor vehicle starter, characterised in that it has a contactor according to any one of the preceding Claims.
