Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for applying a product.
- liquid in particular paint
- an applicator provided at least one roller, arranged to apply the product to a surface and a supply unit, provided with a pump and a pipe, at the less flexible, connecting the pump to the applicator
- the device also comprising a speed detector (Vr) of movement of the roller on the surface, said detector being arranged to provide a signal control corresponding to said speed, said detector and said pump being connected to a control unit, arranged to regulate the flow of the liquid product supplied by the pump under control of said control signal.
- Vr speed detector
- Such a device is known from US-PS 3549267.
- paint is supplied from a tank using a pump and via a line to the roller, in order to apply it on a surface.
- the speed at which the roller moves over the surface on which the paint is applied is measured using a detector which produces a control signal indicating the speed of movement of the roller.
- the control signal formed by a sequence of pulses, is supplied to the control unit, which under control of this control signal, regulates the flow of liquid product supplied to the roller. In such a way supply of paint is controlled by the speed of the roller.
- a disadvantage of the known device is that to measure the paint flow we use a switch controlling the flow, which is connected or disconnected depending on the pulse sequence forming the control signal. Therefore, the pressure inside the driving varies asymptotically which causes a flow not linear of the liquid in the pipe, which in turn leads to a application of uneven paint thickness on the surface.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a device application of a liquid product on a surface allowing the application of the produced on the surface with a substantially equal thickness.
- a device is characterized in that said pump is a positive displacement pump, arranged to pump at an adjustable pumping speed (Vp), and that said control unit is provided with a regulator (40), arranged to establish at least one relationship linear between the speed of movement of the roller (Vr) and the speed of pumping (Vp), said control unit being arranged to regulate said flow also as a function of said linear relationship.
- Vp adjustable pumping speed
- Vp the speed of movement of the roller
- Vp speed of pumping
- a first preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention is characterized in that said regulator comprises a memory to store a set of linear relations and a selector for choose from linear relationships.
- the linear relation game thus allows to choose between different linear relationships and to vary as well the thickness of the layer.
- GB-A-2 263 508 describes a device where liquid ratio is determined based on the speed of movement. However the roller which measures this speed is not the one who applies the liquid. The only role of this roller is to measure this speed. The liquid is him applied with an ejector. In addition, this device does not have a control unit which allows to adjust the ratio between the flow and the speed of the roller. In this device the pump is driven by the movement of the roller which is only compatible with very fluid liquids that are sucked and not pushed to the applicator.
- Patent application DE-A-3526257 describes also a device for applying a product liquid on a surface.
- an area pad is adjacent to the application roller.
- the liquid, especially paint is pumped into this buffer zone which then feeds the roller.
- the rotation of the roller causes suction which brings the paint from the buffer area on the roller.
- the suction force is a function of the speed of rotation of the roller.
- the solution described in DE-A-3526257 does not involves no measurement of the speed of movement of the roll and thereby stands out from that of the present invention.
- Another preferred embodiment of a device according to the invention is characterized in that said control unit is arranged to start the liquid reminder when the signal control indicates a value corresponding to a stop of the movement.
- said control unit is arranged to start the liquid reminder when the signal control indicates a value corresponding to a stop of the movement.
- control unit is arranged to stop said liquid booster after the flow of a predetermined period of time counted from said start.
- the recall should occur extending the pipe too long would empty and it should re-prime the product when the work begins again, causing a loss of time.
- the product is kept in the driving and the user can start again directly after an interruption even longer than the period predetermined.
- Another preferred embodiment of a device according to the invention is characterized in that the applicator has two rollers arranged in parallel, said pipe being connected to an internal cavity of one of the rollers. This has the advantage one roller brings the liquid and the other spreads it out. The roll which is not fed does not saturate thus no liquid product which allows to use it
- the supply unit comprises at least two pumps arranged to supply products different liquids the same applicator, and said unit being arranged to adjust the flow rate of each pump individually. This allows you to mix two products and to measure the contribution of each product individually.
- said pump is a pump peristaltic driven by an adjustable speed motor.
- a peristaltic pump allows easy adjustment flow, because this type of positive displacement pump has a flow proportional to the engine speed which the drive.
- Another preferred embodiment of a device according to the invention is characterized in that said applicator includes screens of protection mounted parallel to the axis of the roller. This allows to abut against ceilings, plinths or other contiguous edges without the roller touching these edges, this which increases the working speed.
- the same reference has been attributed to the same element or to an analogous element.
- reference is made to a device for applying paint to a area.
- the device according to the invention is not limited to the application of paint and others liquid products, such as glue, stripper, bitumen-based coatings, can also be applied by this device.
- Figures 1 and 2 show an example an applicator forming part of the device according to the invention.
- the applicator has two rollers 2 and 3 arranged in parallel, both of which protrude slightly of the opening of the case 1.
- the first roller 2, shown in detail in Figure 3, has a cavity interior 21 which is supplied with paint via a supply line 8.
- the line is at least on part of its flexible length.
- the painting is uniformly distributed on the outer periphery of the roller and passes through the permeable cylinder 22 which supports the outer skin 23 of the roller.
- the cavity can be partially filled with a light foam not saturable 24.
- the second roller 3 spreads the paint filed by the first.
- the housing 1 is guided by the displacement of the two rollers 2 and 3 so that it is kept parallel to the surface to be painted; he harvests so all the paint splashes.
- the device has two rollers. However a device with a single roller can also be considered. The device would then only include the roller 2.
- the supply line can be in part formed by the handle on which the applicator is mounted.
- the housing is provided with protective screens 11 mounted in parallel to the axis 12 of the roller. These screens on the one hand, allow the rollers to be well wrapped and on the other hand to abut against the ceiling, plinths or door and window frames or any other edges contiguous, without the rollers touching these edges.
- the working speed can be increased as the user should be less careful and should not hide these edges.
- the set 1, 2 and 3 is free to rotate around axis 5 forming part of the handle of the applicator 6.
- One or more casters 4 are if necessary arranged on one side of the housing 1 which allows paint closer to corners and edges without too much precautions.
- the axis 5 of the handle is arranged above the center of gravity of the set 1,2 and 3 when the housing 1 is arranged open face up. The face open from the housing upwards is therefore a position of balance. This ensures that there is no paint overflow during various handling operations.
- An electric control 7 adapted to the handle 6 allows switching on and off of the power supply unit paint.
- a speed detector 9, 10 of the movement of the roller on the surface measures the speed of rotation of the first roller 2.
- the detector comprises for example a first permanent magnet 9 fixed on the first roller 2 and a second magnet fixed on the box 1. Each time the first magnet passes before the second, an impulse is produced. The succession of the pulses thus produced then forms a control signal corresponding to the roller speed on the surface.
- the pulse frequency is by example transformed into a voltage whose voltage is proportional to the frequency and therefore to the speed of the roller. The flow is controlled by this speed measurement through a control unit.
- the paint supply for roller 2 is provided by a pump 38 placed between line 8 and a reservoir 37 of paint or other liquid product, as illustrated in figure 4.
- the pump is preferably a peristaltic pump because it allows control reliable paint flow rate desired by the user. Indeed, this type of positive displacement pump has a flow proportional to the speed of rotation of the motor 31 which the drive.
- the electric motor 31 drives, via a reducer 32, the axis of the pump on which are fixed two rollers 36.
- the reduced space between the rollers 36 and the throat of the pump body 34 causes crushing tube 35 such that the tube is sealed.
- the displacement of the rollers along the tube 35 causes the pumping and feeding paint from container 37 to an applicator via line 8.
- the flow of paint therefore only depends on the engine speed 31 controlled by the control unit 33.
- the control unit 33 receives the control signal supplied by the detector.
- the control signal is supplied to a variable resistor 41, an output of which is connected to a first input of a comparator circuit 39.
- a second input of the comparator circuit 39 is connected to the motor 31 and receives a signal indicating the speed of the motor.
- the variable resistor 41 is controlled using a regulator 40, which makes it possible to modify the ratio between the flow rate of the liquid and the speed of movement of the roller on the surface.
- FIG. 6 shows a graph indicating the relationship between the rotation speed V r of the roller and the rotation speed V p of the pump which is proportional to the flow rate of the liquid supplied.
- the regulator 40 makes it possible to select a ratio V r / V p according to a slope ⁇ a, ⁇ b or ⁇ c.
- the control lines a, b, c indicate different relationships.
- the user Before starting his painting work, the user will therefore choose, with the aid of the regulator 40, a ratio V r / V p as a function of the thickness of the layer to be applied.
- the ratio thus indicated will position the variable resistor 41 at a value corresponding to this ratio.
- the control signal provided by the speed detector and the signal indicating the speed of the motor, weighted by the resistor 41 will be constantly compared by the comparator circuit 39 which then provides at its output a control signal for the motor 31.
- the comparator circuit 39 When the roller speed increases respectively decreases, the comparator circuit 39 will notice a difference between the signals supplied to these inputs and will modify the motor speed in order to equalize this difference.
- the flow of liquid supplied by the pump is thus controlled by the control signal indicating the speed of the roller. Since the ratio between the flow rate and the speed of the roller defines the thickness of the paint and this ratio is kept constant along the selected servo line, the thickness is therefore kept constant regardless of the speed at which the user makes advance the roller.
- the control unit 33 is also arranged to note a temporary stop in the movement of the roller and to start a recall of the liquid in the event of a stop.
- recall liquid completely empties the pipe and would require thus a reboot of the device in the event of return to work, recall is limited to a period predetermined time counted from the time the direction of motor rotation has been reversed.
- the control unit comprises for example an RC circuit stalled over this period of time.
- the device according to the invention can be equipped with several pumps, each with their own control unit where share a control unit with another pump.
- the device according to the invention no control of the viscosity of the paint is required and this may contain solid particles without affecting the operation of the pump.
- the draining the peristaltic pump and the applicator is simplified because the paint flow can be reversed by reversing the engine and thereby emptying the switchgear. Cleaning is facilitated by a fitting fast provided in line 8 and adaptable to a running water supply. Changing the hose the peristaltic pump by another facilitates a change quick color or paint.
- the applicator housing containing the two rollers eliminates splash problems and masking is no longer necessary.
- the applicator performs in one operation feeding and spreading the painting thanks to the double roller. From then on, the application painting on a wall can be done with back and forth movements of the upper end of the wall at its lower end.
- a telescopic handle is preferentially used because it allows the use with both hands of the operator.
- the extendable handle is adaptable in position vertical to a rolling support. It is no longer necessary cross the paint because the spread is uniform from the first pass. A coat of paint is enough sometimes because the paint supply can be adjusted from so that it is significantly more important than with a classic roller without affecting the end result. The performance and comfort of the painter are therefore clearly improved and the quality of work superior.
- a special type of roller such as presented in Figure 7 is preferably shaped truncated conical whose circular bases 50, 51 are impermeable to the liquid product used. This kind of roller allows for quick cuts and with the same pump.
- the standard cylindrical roller realizes surfaces with the exception of cutouts.
- the connector quick on line 8 connects the roller tapered instead of the standard roller.
