Abstract
Description
Beschreibungdescription
Process and system for the automatic handling of tournaments.
Such a system and a method are known from DE 42 22 896. Here, a data carrier, which contains participant and control data, is inserted into one or more reading devices, this data is taken over by a computing unit and the pairings of the first tournament round are then determined therefrom. These pairings are then displayed on the display device and the respective game is carried out. After the end of the game, the participant data carriers are inserted into the reading devices in a certain order, for example the winner first, from which the tournament result is determined under the control of the computing unit. The individual phases of the tournament are strictly determined by the order of the data carriers inserted into the reading devices, so that the people otherwise required to conduct the tournament are unnecessary as tournament or game managers. Since the necessary information is also entered using machine-readable data carriers, i.e. no keyboard data entry is provided, input errors are avoided and any manipulation possibilities are prevented.
In this method, the desired system card is first inserted into the slot of the reader before the start of a tournament after the device is switched on, so that the computer can take over the program corresponding to the desired tournament, for example KoSyste, Doppel-Ko-System. Different variants of the game or tournament process can also be entered with such a system card. Although this procedure has proven itself in principle, at the beginning of a tournament there is still a need to regulate between the participants in the game, which tournament or game variant the System card should be selected. This requires the agreement of the game participants in order to be able to select the game or tournament variant desired by all game participants using the system card. However, this system card is often not at hand, e.g. B. has been moved so that the tournament can not start or can only start with a delay. In addition, a discussion about the desired game variant often leads to a dispute, so that again a game master has to decide which variant is now chosen. In addition, in tournaments with a large number of game participants, not all game participants are often present when the game variant of the tournament is determined, so that delays can occur as a result.
Accordingly, the invention is based on the object of further developing a method and a system according to DE 42 22 896 in such a way that the start of the tournament is also largely automated and thus results in a smooth, rapid running of tournaments.
This object is achieved by a method according to the features of claim 1 or a system with the features of claim 8.
In particular, by announcing and calling for participation in an electronic display device within a predetermined period of time, the potential game participants can "register" for the respective tournament by entering personal identification data. This makes it possible for the respective individual to be informed about the respective game or tournament variant by the display device before "enrollment" and then to decide whether he also wants to take part in the respective game or tournament variant. As soon as the number of game participants intended for the respective tournament has been reached, the drawing of the game participant groups is started automatically. This also makes it possible for several players to choose a specific game variant Let it be noted and then the individual players will only be called when the intended number of game participants has been reached. In this way, in particular in the case of inter-local tournaments, an announcement of a game variant can take place, so that players living away can also take part in the tournament. This is particularly useful, for example, for electronic darts games when e.g. B. Groups of four players at eight different locations would like to participate in a larger tournament with 32 players. The call or the announcement of a certain game variant (eg in the electronic darts game) is preferably carried out by a central computer, which sends the corresponding announcement to the connected units via a network, in particular the public telephone network. In this way, participants who have access to such a unit with an electronic display device can register their interest in participating in the respectively announced game. Depending on the interest of the potential game participants, a tournament can be put together after a few seconds or minutes and begin immediately.
In Fig. 1 the basic structure of the system for the automatic handling of tournaments is shown. A system 1 comprises at least one (but preferably several) display device (s) 2 for announcing a respective tournament variant. In addition to the call for participation in the tournament, the display device 2 can also contain instructions for the course of the tournament for informing the interested game participants as well as, for example, a ranking list of the last tournament played. Based on this information, the game participant can decide whether he wants to take part in the announced tournament. To "enroll" in this tournament, he can enter his personal identification data on a data reading device 3 coupled to the display device 2, in particular by inserting a chip card. In this way, his personal identification data is read into a data processing device 4, which is also connected to the display device 2 and updates the respective "registration data 11 and the number of interested potential game participants. This data at the beginning of the tournament can be transmitted to all connected display devices 2 via a remote data transmission network are transmitted, for example, are fed into the telephone network 6 by means of a modem interface 5, so that other game participants are also connected "online" and can determine the respective registration status for the tournament, and can also register for the tournament by inserting a chip card .
The display device 2, the data reading device 3 and the data processing device 4 are preferably designed in the manner of a PC computer, it being possible for a conventional screen to serve as the display and the data reading device 3 is formed, for example, by a chip card reader which is installed instead of a floppy disk or hard disk drive is. The units 7 thus formed can also be connected via the network 6 to a central computer 8, which coordinates the plurality of units 7 connected to them and controls their display devices 2.
As indicated above, in method step a) the announcement of a tournament to be organized on an electronic display device 2 is carried out within a predetermined period of time is displayed, this display device 2 being accessible to several potential game participants. After "enrollment" in the form of procedural step b) = "data entry", registration for the tournament is completed in a short time, in particular when a predetermined number of participants has been reached. The individual groupings or the pairings playing against each other are then assigned to the game participants, in particular drawn randomly. After the respective game has been carried out, the winner in electronic games, for example the known video games, is determined directly at the respective unit 7. Then, in step e), the groupings are assigned for the next round, for example in the knockout system over the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final game. In the final step f), the tournament is evaluated and, if necessary, a new ranking is determined. After the end of the tournament, the next tournament game is announced again in procedural step a). Depending on the load on the network 6, however, a next tournament can already be announced at the non-participating units 7 at the same time while a tournament game is still in progress. If the announcement does not meet a corresponding interest within a predetermined period of time, the next game variant stored in the central computer 8 is announced, for example, so that there is a change in the course of the tournament.
Fig. 1) . As indicated above, this method and the corresponding system are particularly suitable for electronic games, for example for so-called joystick-controlled video games, which are connected via an interface 9 to the data processing device 4 of each unit 7 (cf. FIG. 1). However, a schematically indicated electronic dart can also be provided as the game device 10, on which, for example, the guests of an arcade at location A can play against the visitors of a restaurant at location B on a unit 7, as is shown in the lower area of FIG. 1 is indicated. By networking via the telephone network 6, a variety of Potential game participants are addressed who, depending on their mood or skill level, can take part in the tournament currently being offered and announced on the display device 2. If, for example, a game variant X is currently being announced in which the players at location A are competitive with the players at location B, both parties can have the tournament "pre-booked" by inserting appropriate chip cards to participate in the tournament. The machine-readable data carrier, which is inserted into the data reading device 3, is preferably designed as a chip card or magnetic stripe card. This data carrier includes personal identification data so that the respective opponents can recognize each other and a personal ranking can be drawn up. This applies in particular to so-called club cards, which a potential game participant can acquire in order to be able to participate in the game system with a large number of potential game participants.
