Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for producing a modular element. of electrical connection, in particular used to make electrical contacts to from a motherboard and / or a daughterboard.
- the invention also relates to a modular connection element. electric obtained by the process.
- the patent application French aforementioned FR-A-2 685 556 relates to a modular connection element electric.
- This element comprises an insulating body comprising a central region to receive electrical contact elements and two lateral branches substantially perpendicular to an axis of the central region and having a width equal to that of the module.
- Each side branch has, on one side external, a shielding element extending over a major part of its surface.
- the shielding elements comprise at least one means for holding in position in the insulating body, at least one means of electrical connection extending beyond the body insulator and at least one elastic electrical contact means through at least one corresponding opening of said lateral branch opening onto an internal face of said lateral branch.
- This last parameter is also dependent on the complexity more or less important in manufacturing. All simplifications and reduction of the time of costs correspondingly reduce costs. These also depend on the quantity of material used, in particular the plastic materials forming the body insulating connectors.
- the invention while retaining the advantages of the devices of the art known, in particular modularity, aims to meet the needs that are felt and who have been recalled.
- the connectors according to the invention are of several modules, physically independent. These modules are joined together, at the time of manufacture, by a strip. The latter plays simultaneously roles of fixing the modules together and of shielding.
- the subject of the invention is therefore a method of producing an element modular electrical connection as defined by claim 1.
- the invention also relates to a method for producing an element modular electrical connection as defined by claim 3.
- the electrical connection element according to the invention has, between other, the advantage of a great modularity, during use, but also in manufacturing. Indeed, for a given type of connector, we can manufacture a whole range, of lengths multiple of a basic length (that of the module elementary), from a single mold. The only difference between the different models of the aforementioned range consists of the length of the shield forming fixing member. The latter can be made continuously and cut to length wanted.
- Figure 1 illustrates a connector 2 whose insulating body 22 has the general shape of a "U", that is to say having a bottom and two side wings.
- the bottom is intended to be crossed, in the example illustrated, by contact elements pins 20, more precisely rectilinear contact elements. These exceed on either side of the bottom of the insulating body 20 of the connector 2. They allow insertion of the connector into metallized holes 10 of a printed circuit 1, forming mother or daughter card depending on the applications.
- the bottom of the insulating body 22 is usually provided with pins 21, intended to be inserted into holes 11 made in the printed circuit board 1.
- the connector 2 is soldered by the contact elements 20 in the holes metallized 10.
- the pitch of these metallized holes advantageously meets standards or de facto standards. It is the same with the external dimensions of the body insulator 22 of connector 2.
- Connector 2 can therefore receive a connection element of the dual type (for example as shown in FIG. 2), that is to say provided, in the example described, of female contact elements.
- Figure 2 illustrates a connector 2 'whose body 22' has a shape rectangular parallelepiped.
- the contact elements are angled at the back, 90 °. They also pass through the insulating body 22 'of the 2 'connector, right through, to lead to the front panel in the form 23 'female contact elements.
- the curved parts of the contact elements 20 ', in the form of pins, are intended to be inserted into metallized holes 10 a printed circuit board 1.
- the insulating body 22 'of the connector 2' is provided with 21 'pins on its bottom, pins intended to be inserted in 11' holes made in the printed circuit board 1 '.
- the connector 2 ' is intended to mate with the connector 2, of the figure 1, the insulating bodies of the connectors being further provided with members complementary keying: grooves 24 (connector 2) and slides 24 ' (2 'connector).
- all these connectors can be from a basic module.
- FIG. 3 illustrates an example of a 2 "connector repeating four times the basic module that constitutes the connector 2 'of FIG. 2, that is to say the subassemblies 2 1 to 2 4 .
- the total length of the insulating body 22 "connector 2" is equal to one whole number of that of connector 2 '.
- the curved parts of the contact elements 20 "(pins) are inserted into 10" metallized holes on a circuit board printed 1 ".
- the bottom 22" of the 2 "connector also includes pins 21" intended to be inserted into 11 "holes in the circuit board 1 "print.
- the different subsets 2 1 to 2 4 are not, in reality, dissociated.
- the insulating body 22 is in one piece.
- the connection between each sub-assembly is made by the material constituting the insulating body 22", generally a plastic material.
- the connectors of a range are all made from the repetition of a basic module.
- the bodies of the different modules remain physically independent the each other.
- the shielding is carried out at from a metal strip, in the form of a continuous strip. Cut to size desired length (i.e. an integer multiple of the length of a module of base), this is used to assemble and fix the different basic modules together constituting the connector.
- FIG. 4 illustrates, in side section, a first exemplary embodiment connector 4 according to the invention. This is similar in form to connector shown in Figure 1 and incorporates its main characteristics.
- the insulating body 42 of the connector in the shape of a "U", comprises two vertical side wings, left 42g and right 42d, and a horizontal bottom 42f. This one is crossed by rectilinear contact elements 40, forming contacts males inside the open enclosure that forms the "U".
- the lateral wings 42g and 42d have a certain number of orifices and of lights, such as holes 420g and 420d and lights 421g and 421d, visible in Figure 4.
- the shielding elements 5g and 5d have sunken tabs in these lights: 50g and 51g and 50d and 51d, respectively. They include also the legs 52d or 52g which have the function of ensuring continuity between the shielding elements, 5g and 5d, on the one hand, and the shielding of a complementary type connector, which will be described with regard to Figures 7 to 8b.
- Figures Sa, 5b and 5c illustrate a complete connector C o , produced from several elementary connectors 4, respectively in right, bottom and left view.
- the connector illustrated in these figures comprises eight elementary connectors or basic modules, referenced 4 1 to 4 8 . All of these modules are physically independent of each other. They are arranged adjacent to each other, along a longitudinal axis ⁇ . They are assembled and held together, precisely, thanks to the shielding elements, 5g and 5d.
- each shielding element, 5g and 5d consists of a continuous metal strip precut to the desired length, in this case at a length equal to eight times that of 'an elementary module 4 in the example described. More specifically, the module 4 shown in Figure 4 is a section along "AA" of the connector C o , shown in bottom view in Figure 5b.
- FIG. 5a more particularly illustrates the shielding element 5d and FIG. 5c the shielding element 5g.
- the shields 5d and 5g have, for each module 4 1 to 4 8 , two other depressions, 51d and 51g respectively, on either side of the cutting plane according to "AA”.
- the shields 5d and 5g have, for each module 4 1 to 4 8 , two other depressions, 51d and 51g respectively, on either side of the cutting plane according to "AA”.
- the shielding elements 5d and 5g finally carry vertical tabs, 53d and 53g respectively, made on one edge of the strip, along an axis longitudinal, the purpose and characteristics of which will be specified below.
- the shielding elements are made from a metal strip in the form of a continuous strip.
- the configuration of each elementary shielding element, that is to say associated with one of the modules, is repeated throughout the connector C o . It therefore suffices to make a repetitive cut, for a given type of connector, in a metal strip whose physical characteristics: thickness, width, electrical and magnetic qualities are predetermined according to a given application.
- the shielding elements 5d and 5g can play other ones annexes.
- the upper legs, 52d and 52g sink into inside the enclosure of connector 4. This is intended to receive a complementary type connector.
- the legs, 52d and 52g, ensure continuity electric.
- FIG. 6 illustrates the configuration of the metallized holes arranged on a printed circuit board 6 intended to receive the connector C o .
- each module 4 comprises 5 ⁇ 6 contact elements inserted in the printed circuit board 6, arranged in matrix form.
- the step p usually meets norms or de facto standards, depending on the intended application.
- metallized holes There are also two rows of metallized holes, 61 and 62, each row being designed to receive the vertical legs, 53d or 53g respectively, shielding elements 5d and 5g. These holes are used to fix the shielding to the printed circuit 6, for example by welding or force insertion of legs 53d and 53g.
- the metallized holes, 61 and 62 are in contact galvanic with a mass range (not shown) of the printed circuit 6.
- these metallized holes are arranged according to a grid coincident with the main grid of metallized holes 60.
- the holes 62 of the upper row are alternated with those 61 of the lower row.
- the main grid of metallized holes 60 is not arranged symmetrically with respect to a longitudinal axis ⁇ , forming an axis of symmetry for the contact elements 40.
- the vertical tabs also provide a keying function, during the mounting of the connector C o on the printed circuit 6.
- Figure 7 illustrates, in side section, a second embodiment connector 7 according to the invention.
- the connector shown is of a type complementary to connector 4 (figure 4). In this case, it is a male type connector.
- the configuration of this one is similar, as for the shape, to that of the 2 'connector (figure 2) and it takes up the main characteristics.
- the solid insulating body 72 encloses a set of contact elements 70, bent back at 90 ° as in the case of the aforementioned 2 'connector. These contact elements 70 stand out on the bottom face 72f so that they can be inserted into metallized holes in a printed circuit board (not shown). These elements of contacts are extended, on the front face 72av, by female contact elements 70 '. On the front face, there is provided a matrix of orifices 73, advantageously flared, so as to facilitate the insertion of male contact elements of a connector complementary (not shown) in the female contact elements 70 '. We also provides, on the bottom face, one or more positioning pins 71.
- the connector 7 is provided with shielding elements, 8b and 8a, respectively on part of the bottom face 72f and on the top faces 72d and rear 72ar. It is also possible to provide grounding pins 73 connected to the bottom shielding element 8b.
- FIGS. 8a and 8b are physically independent of each other. More specifically, FIG. 8a represents the connector C o 'seen from the rear face 72d and FIG. 8b represents the connector C o ' seen from the rear face 72ar.
- the shielding elements 8a and 8b which ensure the function of assembling and holding the modules together.
- each elementary connector or basic module 7 includes cells or lights, some of which have been shown: 720.
- the shielding elements 8a and 8b include tabs or tongues, for example 80a which will be pushed back inside the housings provided for this purpose. More particularly, in the case of male type connectors, such as that shown in the figure, it is on the slides 24 'that the shield 8a will be fixed, as shown more particularly in the detail figure 7a. In this way , as before, the different modules 7 1 to 7 8 will be joined together.
- FIG. 9 illustrates a fragment of printed circuit board 9 comprising metallized holes.
- a first grid of metallized holes 90, of pitch p is intended to receive the contact elements 70. These are then welded.
- the shielding element 8a has lugs 83a, playing a role similar to the lugs 53d and 53g of the connector 4 ( Figures 4, 5a and 5c). These tabs can be inserted in a first row of metallized holes 91, at the same step as the grid of metallized holes 90. This row of metallized holes is advantageously in galvanic contact with a ground track.
- the legs 83a are advantageously fixed to the printed circuit 9 by welding or force insertion into these metallized holes 91.
- the shielding elements, 8a and 8b can be produced, as before, based on metal strip strips comprising a repetitive cutting, at a step equal to that of the basic module 7.
- the connectors are extremely modular, since, for a given range of connectors, only one type is required of elementary connector or basic module, therefore of a single mold.
- Assembly operations are not complex important. Only a rejection of the strip in housings of the insulating bodies basic connectors are required in most cases. For some connector configurations, such as that described with reference to FIG. 7, a simple additional folding operation is performed.
- the number of basic modules constituting a connector is limited only by practical considerations. Typically, it is included in a range of 2 to 10.
- connection elements allow including making electrical contacts from a motherboard and / or a daughter board, or a printed circuit board to bundles of cables.
