Abstract
Description
- The invention relates to a roof and/or wall covering construction which is provided with panels which are made of an insulating material, which is covered on opposite surfaces of the panels with a vapour impermeable material, and whereby adjacent panels are on adjacent boundary edges provided with grooves and with noses respectively which project into said grooves, whilst the construction is on the outer side provided with lining plates placed on said panels.
- With known covering constructions of this type it has become apparent in practice that hot air can escape from the room which is covered by means of the roof and/or wall covering construction via slits present between the grooves and the noses projecting into said grooves, which air may come into contact with the lining plates, which are usually made of a profiled, for example metal, sheet material. This may lead to condensation on the sides of the lining plates facing the panels, and the moisture thus formed may drip via said slits into the room covered by the roof and/or wall covering construction, which is generally not acceptable. Condensation may also be caused by air flows between lining plates and panels, for example from a gutter provided along a roof edge in the direction of the ridge.
- According to the invention vapour impermeable sealing strips are provided on either side of the noses between adjacent panels, whilst strips of a water and vapour impermeable material, which overlap joints between adjacent panels, are affixed to the panels on the sides facing the lining plates.
- The strips of a water and vapour impermeable material, which overlap the joints between adjacent panels as well as the sealing strip situates there below, prevent the flow of air from the room covered by the covering construction to the lining plates as well as the leakage of moisture from the space located between the panels and the lining plates via the joints between the panels. Furthermore the sealing strips positioned on the sides of the noses facing away from the lining plates prevent air from entering the interior of the panels from the room, which might lead to condensation on the sheets of a vapour impermeable material covering the insulating material.
- According to the invention a panel suitable for being used in the above-described covering construction is obtained when the panel is on one longitudinal edge provided with a projecting nose and on an opposite longitudinal edge with a groove having a cross-section which corresponds with the cross-section of said nose, whilst strips of a vapour impermeable material are affixed to the panel on either side of said nose.
- Panels of this type can be produced in a simple manner in a factory and then be transported to the building site, where they can be joined in a simple and quick manner upon assembly of the covering construction.
- The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the accompanying Figures.
- Figure 1 is a diagrammatic, partly sectional and partly perspective view of a covering construction according to the invention.
- Figure 2 is a larger-scale view of abutting parts of two panels lying adjacent to each other.
- As is shown in Figure 1, a roof and/or wall covering construction according to the invention comprises a plurality of
panels 1 lying side by side and/or in line with each other, said panels being supported by girders 2' or the like, which form part of the skeleton of the building. - Each panel is built up of a
plate 2 of an insulating material, preferably expanded polystyrene, which is covered on its upper side as well as on its underside with afoil 3 of an impermeable material, for example aluminium. Preferably the edges of such afoil layer 3 are slightly bent over the side edges of thesheet 2 thereby. As will furthermore be apparent from Figures 1 and 2, one side edge of a plate is provided with a projectingnose 4 extending along the edge of the panel in question and having a substantially trapezoidal section, whilst the panel is on the opposite edge provided with agroove 5, which has a cross-section which corresponds with the cross-section of the projectingnose 4. Generally each panel is provided with such a projecting nose along one longitudinal edge and one cross edge, and in a similar manner it is provided with arecessed groove 5 along an opposite longitudinal edge and an opposite cross edge respectively. - On their sides facing away from the interior of the building the panels are covered with corrugated, generally
metal lining plates 6. - As is furthermore shown in Figure 2, vapour
impermeable sealing strips nose 4 respectively, between the adjacent boundary edges of twopanels 1 positioned adjacent to each other. Thesealing strip 7 present on the side of therespective nose 5 which faces thelining plates 6, is in particular made of a vapour and liquid impermeable material, but for the sake of simplicity it is preferred to make bothsealing strips - Efficiently the
sealing strips nose 4, at the factory where the panels are produced, so that the panels can be transported to the building site with thesealing strips sealing strips groove 5, are preferably covered with a cover strip, which is removed before the panels are placed into abutting relationship at the building site, so that thesealing strips groove 5 is formed. - As is indicated in Figure 2, the joints between adjacent panels are furthermore covered by means of water and vapour impermeable strips 9, for example strips made of an aluminium foil, which are glued to those sides of the
adjacent panels 2 that face thelining plates 6. - The strips 9 are preferably provided with an adhesive film for affixing the strips 9 to the panels. Prior to providing the strips 9 a cover layer may be present on said adhesive film.
- Preferably the strips 9 are already affixed to the respective panels at the factory where the panels are produced. Of course the adhesive film of the part of strip 9 extending beyond the respective panel will be covered with a cover foil during transport, which foil is removed when the panels are being assembled to form the covering construction.
- Strip 9 is preferably attached to that side of the panel in which
groove 5 is formed. - It will be apparent that by using the above-described roofing plates a roof and/or wall covering construction may be obtained wherein circulation of air, vapour and/or liquid through the joints between adjacent panels is prevented in an effective manner.
- The thickness of the
plates 2 may vary between 40 and 300 mm. The thickness of thealuminium foils 3 may vary between 25 - 100 µm.
