Definitions
- the invention relates to connectors for backplane wiring, consisting of a male connector designed as a one-sided open right-angled housing for plugging onto the knives of a backplane circuit board and a female connector which can be inserted into the male connector board and is provided with receiving chambers and firmly connected to a module circuit board, the knives and springs being parallel in several rows are arranged, the individual contact springs being surrounded by electrically conductive shields, which are connected to contacts in the intermediate grid both on the rear wall and on the assembly side, which are acted upon by a corresponding potential.
- Such a connector for backplane wiring is e.g. known from European patent application 94 103 192.4.
- connectors have been proposed in which the shielding is carried out from different all-metal or sheet metal housings. The shield contacting must be loosened in the smallest space on the plug side.
- the object of the present invention is therefore to provide shield contacting options for connecting the shield to the corresponding potential on the printed circuit board, which ensures reliable contact in the smallest of spaces.
- shield contacts consist of wire contact pins (so-called tuft plugs) pressed into the circuit board, which contact the shield material of the female connector in corresponding recesses.
- this tuft plug has several resilient wires, a secure contact is guaranteed.
- shield contacts consist of spiral-shaped pins pressed into the printed circuit board, which contact the shield material of the female connector in corresponding recesses.
- the spiral shape ensures a safe contact and at the same time there is good lateral tolerance compensation.
- tuft plugs 1 show the shield contacting by means of wire contact pins 1, which are pressed into the backplane wiring board 5, so-called tuft plugs.
- These tuft plugs 1 are constructed in a conventional manner from a plurality of individual wires 2 with a cap 3 and additionally have a press-in shoulder 4 in order to press them into the backplane wiring board 5.

- FIGS. 4 and 5 show contact pins 10 for contacting receiving tubes 15 into which the insulated contact springs are inserted.
- the connection of the individual tube shielding is realized in such a way that wires 14 are fastened to the four corners of the tube. These wires bundle when the tube 15 is inserted into the plastic housing of the contact pin 10, which was previously secured in the housing by means of ultrasound embossing.
- the four individual wires are connected to the contact pin by stamping or soldering.
- sockets 11 are pressed with contact springs.
- the sockets can be open or closed at the rear.
- FIGS. 6 and 7 show the contacting by means of a spiral pin 17, which is pressed into the rear wall wiring plate 18 and engages through the male connector base 19 and the plastic cover 21 in the female connector.
- the pin 17 has a press-in shoulder 20.
- This pin shape allows both sheet metal compartments, indicated by a section through a female connector housing 24 in FIG. 7, and all-metal housings, indicated by a female connector housing 23 in FIG. 7, to be contacted, with a good lateral tolerance compensation being provided by the spiral contact point.
- the sheet metal compartment the sheet protrudes slightly into the hole in the plastic housing. It is absolutely necessary to define at least one turn for centric and even contacting. Because there is a screw geometry, the shield lead is contacted at the ideal location near the outer surface of the housing.
- the female connector housing can be, for example, a female connector housing 29 made of all-metal or a female connector housing 30 made of plastic with a sheet metal compartment.
- the contact pins 25 are firmly anchored with their press-in zone 31 in the female connector housing and have contacting zones 33 and 35.
- the contact pins 25 engage in sockets 26 with contact springs which are pressed into the rear wall wiring plate 27.
- the sockets are flush with the bottom of the male connector base 28.
- the rear area of the pin is pressed into the plastic housing, while the front area contacts the sheet metal. This places the shield derivative in the area of the mating face.
- FIGS. 9 and 10 show shield contacts with spring-loaded contact pins 36.
- This type of shield contact it is possible to dispense with a plated-through hole for a corresponding contact knife or a socket.
- the contact pin 36 sprung by means of the spring 40 is gold-plated on the rounded or flat tip and strikes a gold-plated contact surface 39 on the rear wall wiring plate 37 after passing through the male connector base 38. This prevents interference radiation from protruding press-in zones of contact elements.
- 41 is an active signal contact.
- the springs 40 and the contact pins 36 can be pressed individually or as a subassembly with a cage into the sheet metal compartment or into an all-metal housing.
- 11 to 14 show shield contacting by means of a wire mesh or by means of contact wool pads.

Bei vier Drähten und richtig orientierter Einpreßplazierung lassen sich Gutblechgefache kontaktieren.1 to 3 show the shield contacting by means of wire contact pins 1, which are pressed into the
In the
Zum Einpressen in die Rückwandverdrahtungsplatte 18 sitzt der Stift 17 eine Einpreßschulter 20.6 and 7 show the contacting by means of a
This pin shape allows both sheet metal compartments, indicated by a section through a
Hierdurch wird die Schirmableitung in den Bereich des Steckgesichts gelegt.8 shows the shield contacting by means of
