Abstract

A polyamide-based monofilamentary synthetic fibre is to be improved in respect of its mechanical and chemical properties. For this purpose there is proposed a monofilamentary synthetic fibre made of polyamide and polypropylene.

Description

Die Erfindung betrifft monofile Kunstfasern auf Polyamidbasis. The invention relates to monofilament synthetic fibers based on polyamide.

Monofilament synthetic fibers made from polyamide, in particular from polyamide 6 and polyamide 66, are known (e.g. Hansjürgen Saechtling: Plastics Pocket Book, 22nd edition 1983, page 286 ff., Carl Hanser-Verlag, Munich). These monofilaments are used, for example, for the production of brushes and for the production of fabrics and screens for paper machines. Since such monofilaments are subjected to particularly high mechanical and chemical stresses in use, there is an effort to improve such synthetic fibers based on polyamide with regard to their mechanical and chemical properties.

The object of the invention is therefore to provide a synthetic fiber based on polyamide, which has better mechanical and chemical properties than synthetic fibers made of pure polyamide.

This object is achieved according to the invention with a monofilament synthetic fiber of the type mentioned at the beginning by a mixture of polyamide and polypropylene.

It was surprisingly found that through the admixture Polypropylene synthetic fibers made of polyamide can be significantly improved in many properties. In particular, water absorption is reduced and chemical resistance is increased. In addition, the mechanical stiffness is increased, both dry and wet, and a longer brush life is achieved under high loads.

A composition of 1 to 60% polypropylene and ad 100% polyamide has proven to be particularly advantageous, polyamide 6 and / or polyamide 66 preferably being used.

The properties of the monofilament synthetic fiber according to the invention can be significantly improved by adding an adhesion promoter (compatibilizer), for example maleic acid-grafted polypropylene, acrylated polypropylene, maleic acid-grafted SEBS, ionomers or ethylene-acrylic acid copolymers.

A composition of 20 to 40% polypropylene, 5 to 10% adhesion promoter and ad 100% polyamide has proven to be particularly advantageous, with 20-30% polypropylene and 5 to 10% adhesion promoter being particularly advantageous.

It has been found that such a monofilament Synthetic fiber is particularly suitable as an artificial bristle or bundle of synthetic bristles, since much better mechanical and chemical properties can be achieved than synthetic bristles made of polyamide.

A synthetic fiber according to the invention can advantageously also be used in fabrics or sieves (e.g. paper machine sieves), the water absorption, which is significantly lower than that of pure polyamide fibers, and thus increased dimensional stability of the sieves and fabrics being particularly important.

Die Erfindung ist nachstehend anhand von Ausführungsbeispielen beispielsweise näher erläutert:The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of exemplary embodiments, for example:

Beispiel 1:Example 1:

A state-of-the-art synthetic fiber made of pure polyamide 6 was first examined. This synthetic fiber is referred to below as synthetic fiber I.

Beispiel 2:Example 2:

In contrast, a monofilament synthetic fiber according to the invention with the following composition was examined:
80% polyamide 6, 20% polypropylene,
this fiber is referred to below as synthetic fiber II.

Beispiel 3:Example 3:

In addition, a monofilament synthetic fiber according to the invention with the following composition was examined:

70 % Polyamid 6, 20 % Polypropylen und 10 % maleinsäuregepfropftes Polypropylen (Exxelor PO 1015) als Haftvermittler. Diese Kunstfaser wird nachfolgend als Kunstfaser III bezeichnet.70% polyamide 6, 20% polypropylene and 10% maleic acid-grafted polypropylene (Exxelor PO 1015) as an adhesion promoter. This synthetic fiber is referred to below as synthetic fiber III.

These synthetic fibers were first examined with regard to their water absorption, the results are shown in Table 1 below: Table 1 Water absorption Synthetic fiber Storage time in water 24 h Synthetic fiber I 6.63% Synthetic fiber II 4.77% Synthetic fiber III 4.64%. As can be seen, compared to known synthetic fibers made of polyamide (synthetic fiber I), the water absorption can be considerably reduced by the synthetic fibers according to the invention.

50 %-iger Ameisensäure in Zeitabhängigkeit untersucht, die Ergebnisse sind in der nachfolgenden Tabelle 2 dargestellt: Tabelle 2 Restfestigkeiten der Kunstfasern Faser Lagerungszeit in Ameisensäure (30 %) (h) Lagerungszeit in Ameisensäure (50%) (h) 1 2 3 3 Kunstfaser I 87,0 % 85,0 % 82,0 % 58,0 % Kunstfaser II 100,0 % 92,0 % 88,0 % 66,0 % Kunstfaser III 99,0 % 92,0 % 92,0 % 72,0 % In addition, the chemical resistance of the above-mentioned synthetic fibers in 20% or 50% formic acid was investigated as a function of time, the results are shown in Table 2 below: Table 2 Residual strength of the synthetic fibers fiber Storage time in formic acid (30%) (h) Storage time in formic acid (50%) (h) 1 2nd 3rd 3rd Synthetic fiber I 87.0% 85.0% 82.0% 58.0% Synthetic fiber II 100.0% 92.0% 88.0% 66.0% Synthetic fiber III 99.0% 92.0% 92.0% 72.0%

As can be seen from the results listed in Table 2, the synthetic fibers II and III according to the invention have significantly better chemical properties than the conventional synthetic fibers I, the residual strengths of the synthetic fibers after storage in formic acid are significantly better.

I 2000 2000 24 4,4 ET = 3,0 vereinzelt Borsten abgebrochen Kunstfaser II 2000 2000 24 4,15 ET = 2,5 Kunstfaser III 2000 2000 24 4,15 ET = 2,5 Kunstfaser I 2600 4000 8 47,0 Bürste zerstört Kunstfaser II 2600 4000 24 37,7 ET = 6,5 Borsten abgebrochen Kunstfaser III 2600 4000 24 25,5 ET = 6,0 Borsten abgebrochen Finally, the mechanical properties of the synthetic fibers according to the invention were also examined, in particular with regard to their service life in a round brush, using a brush test; the results are shown in Table 3 below: Table 3 Synthetic fiber brush Brush speed (min⁻¹) Contact pressure (g) Runtime (h) Weight loss brush (g) Immersion depth (mm) Synthetic fiber I 2000 2000 24th 4.4 ET = 3.0 isolated bristles broken off Synthetic fiber II 2000 2000 24th 4.15 ET = 2.5 Synthetic fiber III 2000 2000 24th 4.15 ET = 2.5 Synthetic fiber I 2600 4000 8th 47.0 Brush destroyed Synthetic fiber II 2600 4000 24th 37.7 ET = 6.5 bristles broken off Synthetic fiber III 2600 4000 24th 25.5 ET = 6.0 bristles broken off

As can clearly be seen from the test results shown in Table 3, the synthetic fibers according to the invention have a significantly longer service life than the known synthetic fiber made of pure polyamide. This is essential improved behavior against heat aging of the monofilaments according to the invention compared to known polyamide monofilaments.

Of course, the invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiments shown. For example, a synthetic fiber based on polyamide 66 with a polypropylene additive is particularly suitable, and moreover a combination of polyamide and polypropylene, possibly with the addition of an adhesion promoter.
