Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a soft-face mallet with at least one percussion insert held in a housing and a stem socket connected to the housing for the hammer handle.
Soft mallets of this type are widely used in practice and are usually produced by cutting steel pipes to length, the impact inserts being held in the openings which arise in the axial direction. The stem grommet in which the hammer handle is held is welded or soldered onto the outer surface of the steel tube.
If, however, the welded or soldered connection between the housing and the stem is not absolutely perfect, the housing can detach from the stem and be thrown out in an uncontrolled manner. This can happen even with a perfect weld or solder joint due to material fatigue if the soft-face hammer is subject to special stress; the associated risk of injury to people using the soft-face hammer or to persons in the vicinity is not acceptable.
The object on which the invention is based is therefore to design a soft-face hammer of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that detachment of the housing from the stem is practically impossible and the functionality of the soft-face hammer remains guaranteed even under high loads.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that the housing and the stem are composed of two half-shells which abut each other in a plane going through the longitudinal axis of the housing and the stem and are firmly connected to one another at the edges, the two half-shells each being formed in one piece are.
Such a design of a soft mallet on the one hand ensures that the stem sleeve is an integral part of the housing and so that a connection between the stem sleeve and the housing does not have to be created that can be released again. On the other hand, such a soft-face mallet can be manufactured in a particularly simple manner, especially when both half-shells are formed in one piece from a sheet metal blank, for example by non-cutting shaping of this sheet metal blank.
In principle, the two half-shells can be made separately. However, it is particularly advantageous if the two half-shells are formed in one piece from a common sheet metal blank. The two half-shells can in principle be connected to each other at any point; However, it is advantageous if the two half-shells are connected to one another on the housing, since increased strength is then achieved in the area of the impact forces that occur.
Furthermore, it is recommended that the half-shells connected to one another on the edge are welded to one another at their mutual contact surfaces of the housing and / or the stem spout or are otherwise permanently connected. The weld seams to be applied are not subject to a comparable load as the weld seam between the housing and the stem sleeve according to the prior art.
In a further preferred embodiment, a reinforcement rib is provided in the transition area between the housing and the stem, which is formed by edge strips adjoining the edge of each half shell, the two edge strips forming a reinforcement rib lying flat against one another and being welded together at their free edge. As a result, not only is the area of the sheet metal blank adjoining the stem sleeve used to advantage, but the strength in the area between the housing and the stem sleeve further increased.
The housing expediently has an opening on each of its two end faces, in which a baffle plate is arranged at a distance from the edge of the opening, against which the impact insert inserted into the housing lies. The baffle plate can be provided with a collar on the edge, which is flush with the edge of the opening and welded to it or otherwise permanently connected.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is characterized in that a part of the cavity formed in the housing is filled with shot, which has a damping effect on the kickback of the soft-face hammer. The opening formed by the stem nozzle is expediently provided for filling the cavity. In addition, the opening can be closed by a detachably inserted stopper, so that it is possible to replace the shot filling even after the baffle plate has been welded in and the impact insert has been inserted, thus achieving a variation in the damping effect. It is also advisable to design the soft-face hammer in such a way that the impact insert and the housing have a non-circular cross-section which prevents rotation. This is expediently achieved in that the housing and the impact insert are rectangular in cross section.
It is also advantageous if beads are formed in the housing to stiffen the housing wall, since thinner sheet metal can then be used for cutting the sheet metal and for reshaping the half-shells. In more preferred Embodiment is provided that the beads are aligned parallel to the edge of the opening and form stops for the baffle plate.
There is also the possibility that the hammer handle is integrally formed on the stem nozzle. A particularly good holding and fastening of the impact insert is achieved if the baffle plate is provided with inwardly directed beads for holding the impact insert.
There is also the possibility that the baffle plate is molded onto the half-shell and is formed in one piece with it. However, this requires a larger width of the sheet metal blank.

The embodiment of the soft mallet shown in the drawing consists of two striking inserts 2 held in a housing 1 and a
In the transition region between the
The
