Bei diesem als Kaltfixierung bezeichneten Verfahren wird der Toner im Dampf eines geeigneten Lösungsmittels angelöst und dabei ein inniger Kontakt zwischen Toner und Aufzeichnungsträger erreicht. Als Lösungsmittel wird dabei ein azeotropes Gemisch aus Trichlortrifluorethan (C₂Cl₃F₃) und Aceton (C₃H₆O) verwendet. Das primäre Lösungsmittel ist hierbei das Aceton, während das Trichlortrifluorethan als Flammschutzmittel dient. Stoffe mit der Summenformel C₂HF₃Cl₂ werden als teilhalogenierte Fluorchlorkohlenwasserstoffe oder Hydrofluoralkale bezeichnet. Sie sind besonders umweltfreundlich. Als besonders günstig hat sich aus diesen Verbindungen der teilhalogenierten Fluorchlorkohlenwasserstoffe die Verwendung von teilchloriertem Fluorkohlenwasserstoff R123 und von R141b herausgestellt. Der teilchlorierte Fluorkohlenwasserstoff HFCKW R123 besitzt gegenüber Tonern mit nichtvernetzter Polymermatrix, dessen Polymergrundmatrix aus Polystyrol und Methacrylaten besteht, eine so hohe Lösungswirkung, daß das R123 als alleiniges Fixiermittel (ohne Acetonzusatz) eingesetzt werden kann. Die Verwendung von R123 als Fixiermittel hat neben der geringen Umweltbelastung den Vorteil, daß es rein verwendet werden kann, so daß eine Abmagerung eines Gemischanteiles, wie bei den bekannten Fixiermitteln, während des Druckens nicht auftreten kann. Da das erfindungsgemäße Fixiermittel aus reinem R123 besteht, kann eine Unterfixierung nicht mehr auftreten. Aus diesem Grund können als Aufzeichnungsträger verschiedenste Papiersorten eingesetzt werden. Weiterhin hat das Fixiermittel eine geringe Luftfeuchteabhängigkeit im Gegensatz zu Aceton, welches gut wasserlöslich ist, weswegen auf eine Regelung der Luftfeuchte in der Fixiervorrichtung verzichtet werden kann, bzw. die von dem Aufzeichnungsträger in unterschiedlichster Menge aufgenommene Luftfeuchte sich nicht negativ auf den Fixierprozeß auswirkt. Claims (2)

  1. Method for fixing a polystyrene-based toner on a recording medium (AT) of a printer or copier, whereby a solvent (LM) is evaporated in a fixing device (FR) and influences the toner in this condition, characterized in that a partly halogenated chlorofluorohydrocarbon having a boiling point below 35°, selected from CHCl₂-CF₃ and CFCl₂-CH₃, is used as the sole solvent (LM) and a toner having an uncrosslinked polymer matrix whose polymer base matrix consists of polystyrene and methacrylates is used as the toner.
  2. Solvent for fixing a polystyrene-based toner having an uncrosslinked polymer matrix, whose polymer base matrix consists of polystyrene and methacrylates, on a recording medium (AT) of a printer or copier, whereby a solvent (LM) is evaporated in a fixing device (FR) and influences the toner in this condition, characterized by a partly halogenated chlorofluorohydrocarbon having a boiling point below 35°, selected from CHCl₂-CF₃ and CFCl₂-CH₃.
