Definitions

  • the present invention aims to allow an initiation of the perpetual calendar of a chronograph and not a watch, which obviates all the aforementioned drawbacks, namely the use of a device internal to the chronograph and which does not require a total reset of the perpetual calendar when changing the battery.
  • the present invention relates to a method of initializing the perpetual calendar of a quartz chronograph using elements integrated into this chronograph overcoming the aforementioned drawbacks as well as a chronograph for the implementation of this method.
  • Figure 1 is a top view of the chronograph.
  • Figures 2 to 5 schematically illustrate the visualization, using the second hand in the center and the scale of the minutes, of the various parameters to be initialized, the number of the year, the number of the month, the date and the 'hour.
  • FIG. 6 illustrates a state diagram showing the different functions that can be performed with the chronograph watch according to the invention.
  • the chronograph watch illustrated diagrammatically in FIG. 1 comprises an analog display having a graduation of the hours and minutes 1 circular and concentric with the hour hands 2 and minutes 3.
  • This display also comprises a chronograph seconds hand 4 in the cooperating center with graduation 1, a chronograph counter of 30 minutes, presenting a graduation 5 and a hand 6, situated at five o'clock and a chronograph counter of 12 hours, presenting a graduation 7 and a hand 8, situated at seven o'clock.
  • this display includes a date display, comprising a graduation of 31 steps 9 and a hand 10, located at noon.
  • This chronograph also has a time-setting rod with three axial positions, ending with a crown 11, and two chronograph pushers P1, P2.
  • This chronograph watch caliber has three motors controlled by an electronic circuit comprising a microprocessor.
  • the minutes 3 and hours 2 hands as well as those for the date indication 10 are driven by mechanical reduction from a first motor with a normal frequency of 1/12 Hz with fast forward motion of 64 Hz and fast reverse 32 Hz.
  • Hourly information is displayed up to the date but it is calculated up to the year, taking leap years into account, by the micro-processor.
  • the rod being pulled in the intermediate position, it is possible to change the time zone forwards or backwards according to the direction of rotation of the time setting rod.
  • the adjustment of the time affects the information of the perpetual counter, date, month and year.
  • the display of the watch stops. It is then possible to set the time of the watch forwards or backwards in steps of one fifth of a second. The time is set on all the information of the perpetual counter, from the second to the year.
  • the time-setting rod In chronograph mode, the time-setting rod is in the normal position and the time display is performed continuously.
  • the chronograph includes two chronograph engines.
  • the first chronograph motor drives the second hand to the center 4 which performs one revolution of the dial per minute.
  • This motor has a normal frequency of 5 Hz and a fast forward run at 64 Hz as well as a fast reverse run at 32 Hz.
  • the second chronograph motor drives the minute hands 6 and hours 8 of the chronograph displays.
  • This motor has a normal frequency of 1 step per minute and a fast forward run at 64 Hz as well as a fast reverse run at 32 Hz.
  • the chronograph functions are managed by a clockwork microprocessor associated with peripheral circuits.
  • the circuit includes an application part on input and output interfaces and a processor part with its control unit and its processing unit.
  • the circuit includes 4 blocks of input interfaces corresponding to the various function control members:
  • the quartz frequency is adjusted by inhibiting a given number of 32 kHz cycles during a 12-second period.
  • the inhibition control circuit notably includes non-volatile memories (FAMOS) into which the binary value corresponding to the desired setting is loaded.
  • FMOS non-volatile memories
  • the movement of the hour hand is done mechanically, from the first motor which is controlled by the processor which updates the registers according to the input signals, during a command by the time-setting rod.
  • a system control input When a system control input is activated, it activates a register which wakes up the processor and transmits the information to a bank (Flags); the processor then comes to read the data contained in this bank and to execute the function corresponding to the activated "flag", after which it resets it to zero thanks to the DATA field.
  • the circuit includes the blocks necessary for the management of the organs it controls, in particular for controlling the motors.
  • the application program contained in a ROM memory, is the basis of the behavior of the processor.
  • the number of instructions it contains and their format are linked to the architecture of the microprocessor and the functions to be performed.
  • the control unit is responsible for managing the processor and peripherals; it is composed of a ROM memory, a program counter, a sequencer and a decoder.
  • the ROM contains the application program from which the processor performs the various functions. Each instruction contained in the program is selected by the program counter and executed through the decoder which performs the corresponding function by directing the various organs of the processing unit and the peripherals. The sequencer controls the arrangement over time of all these operations.
  • the program counter supplies to the ROM memory the address of the instruction to be carried out; after which, unless the latter orders, it increments the address by 1 step and supplies it to the ROM; however, certain instructions may impose another address on it under certain conditions, thus making it possible to make jumps in the program or to go to subroutines.
  • the sequencer manages the various stages necessary for the execution of the instructions.
  • the circuit used is mainly composed of a binary divider, a D flip-flop and a logic circuit.
  • the decoder is a logic circuit which provides the variables necessary to achieve the desired function.
  • the processing unit performs the functions provided for in the application program under the control of the control unit. It essentially consists of a RAM memory and an arithmetic unit ALU.
  • the RAM memory is made up of registers temporarily storing data such as timed times, dates and other data.
  • the arithmetic and logic unit is a circuit performing operations on the data for the execution of the application program.
  • this electronic circuit and this processor allow the realization of at least two new and original functions which are the initialization of the perpetual calendar (day, month, year) and the hour as well as the rescue of the data relating to the calendar perpetual at least when the end of life of the battery or the opening of the box is detected.
  • the initialization of the perpetual calendar and of the time is carried out only at using organs integrated into the chronograph.
  • the second hand is used in the center of the chronograph 4 cooperating with the graduation of the minutes 1, but as can be seen below the amplitude of the unit steps of this hand depends on the parameter that is initialized.
  • the user places the time-setting rod in its second position, fully pulled by acting on the crown 11. Then he presses the pusher P2 three times followed by three presses on button P1. The chronograph is then in state I of the initialization function, the second hand in the center 4 automatically returns to a position corresponding to the state of the memories.
  • the hand of chrono 4 advances in 1/4 turn steps (75 engine steps) to the value of the year number 1,2,3 or 4 in a four-year cycle (figure 2). If the value of the number of the year which is thus displayed is not correct, the seconds hand of the chronograph 4 is advanced in successive steps by successively pressing the push-button P2. When the correct value is reached, the user presses the push-button P1 once, which places the chronograph in initialization state II and the second hand 4 automatically returns to a position corresponding to the state of the memories.
  • This state II corresponds to the initialization of the number of the month. If this value is not correct, the user advances the seconds hand 4 in successive steps of 1/12 of a turn (25 motor steps) by successive presses on button P2 until the correct value is reached (Fig. 3).
  • the initialization function also includes an IV state for initializing the time.
  • IV an IV state for initializing the time.
  • the user By pressing push-button P1 once again, the user goes to this state IV, the previously adjusted date value is memorized and the seconds hand 4 advances in steps of 1/60 of a turn (5 engine steps) until the value of the stored time. If this value is not correct, the user causes the seconds hand 4 to advance in steps of 1/60 of a turn to the correct value. If in doing so it exceeds 23 steps, the second hand automatically returns to zero and the time initialization cycle can start again (Figure 5).
  • This chronograph watch also has a battery end-of-life function which means that when the voltage delivered by the battery drops below a preset threshold, the second hand of the stopwatch 4 moves to the "10 seconds" position, the watch stops with the storage of its instantaneous state, including the data relating to the perpetual calendar in a FAMOS memory. Identical values are saved each time the box is opened using an appropriate box contact.
  • closing the box causes the values stored in the FAMOS, in the chronograph counter, to be transferred by actuating the box contact.
  • the user then causes the elapsed time to be made up by quickly correcting the date and setting the time.
  • the chronograph watch can automatically go through a non-static stage during which the display of the state of the perpetual calendar is possible.
  • the user can check that the perpetual calendar is well adjusted or if necessary, he can then carry out a new initialization of it.
