Abstract

The arrangement of a safety valve (12) in containers (1) serving to receive liquids which, for safety reasons, are kept under pressure in the container by means of an inert gas must always take place in such a way that, in the case of the safety valve opening, its outflow opening is always situated above the level of the liquid in order to prevent undesired escape of some of the liquid. Since a manhole (2) is customarily provided in the upper region, the space available for accommodating the safety valve (12) is limited. A container (1) according to the invention is characterised in that the safety valve (12) is accommodated as an insert part in the manhole (2). This constructional combination of the manhole (2) and the safety valve (12) provides the largest possible spacing of the outflow opening of the valve from the surface of the liquid, the constructional volume required for the container (1) being kept low at the same time due to a countersunk arrangement of the safety valve. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a container according to the preamble of claim 1.

Such containers are known in principle and are used, inter alia, for the transport and storage of liquids which are very reactive or flammable under ambient conditions and which, in the event of an uncontrolled escape into the environment, pose dangers, inter alia, of a health nature, e.g. B. self-igniting liquids. For safety reasons, these liquids are kept under pressure in the container by means of an inert gas.

The manhole, which is used to inspect the interior of the container at regular intervals, is located in the middle of the upper region of the container, which is generally formed by a lying, cylindrical base body.

The safety valve must always be located above the liquid level so that only gas and no liquid is blown out in the event of opening if the excess pressure is too great. In order to ensure rapid blowing out in the latter case, the outflow cross section must have a minimum cross section corresponding to the gas volume in the container. The outflowing gas should be blown out vertically.

In order to ensure that the outflow opening of the safety valve remains above the liquid level even when the vehicle carrying the container is tilted, it is customary to arrange the safety valve as close as possible to the manhole. However, the size of the space available next to the manhole for accommodating the safety valve is problematic, in particular because a minimum outflow cross section is required for this and this cross section should always be above the liquid level.

The previously known safety valve arrangements which meet the above requirements, however, lead to relatively complicated attachments to the container, by means of which its construction volume is increased and, consequently, its suitability as a transport container for maritime transport is reduced. Another disadvantage of the previous embodiments is that when the safety valve is opened when the vehicle carrying the container is inclined, parts of the liquid are entrained and consequently blown out due to the reduced distance of the blow-out opening from the liquid level.

It is the object of the invention to design a container of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that that in a structurally simple manner with optimum use of the construction volume, the security against an if only partial blowing out of liquid is reduced if the safety valve is opened. This object is achieved in a generic container by the features of the characterizing part of claim 1. It is essential that the manhole, which is present anyway, is combined spatially or constructively with a safety valve insert. Since the manhole is usually arranged in the middle upper region of the container, this results in the greatest possible distance between the blow-out opening of the safety valve and the free liquid surface. This distance alone provides increased security against inadvertent blowing out of parts of the liquid if the safety valve responds. Due to the arrangement of the manhole, this also applies when the vehicle carrying the container is inclined. At the same time, due to its cross-sectional dimensions, the manhole offers a sufficient outflow area to ensure rapid blowing out in the event of overpressure. This blow-out also always takes place in a vertical direction, so that the construction measures required to accommodate a safety valve can be kept very simple.

According to the features of claims 2 to 4, the insert part is designed as a cylindrical component, one end side of which is closed by a base part in which the safety valve is accommodated, this base part expediently being welded to the cylindrical component. It is this insert, in which the safety valve is detachably arranged, which can be removed as a whole, for example in order to be able to use the manhole. It is therefore the insert with the Screwed border of the manhole. In this way, not only is the safety valve easily accessible, for example for inspection purposes, but it is also ensured that the functions of the manhole are not impaired by the arrangement of the safety valve insert. Since the insert part can be arranged sunk inside the container wall, the constructive combination of manhole and safety valve does not result in any changes in construction which impair the external dimensions and thus the construction volume of the container. This is of particular importance for the storage volume required for the container in ocean shipping. The container according to the invention thus brings increased accident safety during transport with optimum use of the construction volume.

Due to the arrangement and design of the cover according to the features of claims 5 and 6, the safety valve is hermetically sealed from all environmental influences. At the same time, the frictional attachment of the cover ensures that if the safety valve responds, it is displaced and gas can escape. At the same time, the lid can advantageously be used as a carrier for sealing devices.

The features of claims 7 and 8 illustrate the simple and very clear structure of the safety valve arrangement according to the invention. Characterized in that the distance of the bottom part from the lid is larger than the maximum displacement of moving parts of the safety valve is achieved that displacement of the lid only under the effect of the inside of the cylindrical insert in the event of opening of the safety valve. The safety valve is expediently fastened on the side of the base part facing the cover, so that movable parts of the valve protrude into the insert part.

The border of the manhole is preferably formed by a cylindrical tube element in the manner of a block flange. In this way there is at the same time a sufficient contact surface for the insert part, in particular the ring flange welded to it, this contact surface simultaneously serving as a contact surface for a corresponding sealing element.

The manhole 2 is also used for recording a safety valve insert, which is closed at the top with a cover 3. The detailed design of the manhole will be explained in more detail below with reference to FIGS. 2 to 4.

The manhole is formed by a cylindrical tube element 5 welded into the wall 4 of the container 1, the outside end face of which is used to fasten the ring flange 6 of a safety valve insert 7. The ring flange 6 is welded to the outside of the housing 9. The ring flange 6 is welded to the housing 9 in such a way that the latter projects as far as possible into the container 1 in the assembled state. As a result, the part of the entire arrangement which projects from the wall 4 is kept relatively short.

The bottom part 10 has in its central region an opening 11, into which a spring-loaded, known, commercially available safety valve 12 is inserted. The safety valve is fastened to the base part 10 with the intermediate arrangement of a fastening ring 13 which surrounds the opening 11 and with the base part 10 with the intermediate arrangement of a sealing ring 14 is screwed.

The axial length 15 of the housing 9 is dimensioned such that when the safety valve 12 is opened, the cover 3 is only displaced by the gas pressure present within the housing 9 and not by parts of the safety valve 12.

The cover 3 consists of a circular plate 16, on the periphery of which a cylindrical part 17 extending perpendicularly thereto is welded. The inside diameter of the cylindrical part 17 is larger than the outside diameter of the cylindrical housing 9, so that an annular space 18 remains between the inside surface of the said cylindrical part and the outside surface of the housing - with the cover 3 attached. In this space 18 protrudes one leg of a V-shaped cross-section, made of an elastic material, for example a suitable rubber or a comparable plastic clamping ring 19, which otherwise rests on the outside of the cylindrical part 17. In the attached state of the cover, the leg of the clamping ring which bears against the outside of the cylindrical part 17 is under a certain pretension, as a result of which the cover 3 is fixed by friction.

To fasten the clamping ring 19, namely the leg resting on the outside of the cylindrical part 17, the outside of the part 17 is provided with an annular groove 20 into which a circumferential rib 21 which is formed on the corresponding side of the clamping ring 19 engages.

With 22 on the circumferential side of the circular plate 16 welded nuts are designated, about which in the drawing not shown, a sealing of the cover 3 takes place.

Diese Kette 23 ist in ihrer Länge derart bemessen, daß ein durch einen inneren Gasdruck bewirktes Abheben des Deckels 3 nicht behindert wird, daß letzterer hingegen unverlierbar mit dem Mannloch in Verbindung bleibt.23 with a chain is designated, one end of which is attached to the inside of the cover 3 and the other end, not shown in the drawing, of an eyebolt 24, the latter being screwed to the bottom part 10. The length of this chain 23 is such that a lifting of the cover 3 caused by an internal gas pressure is not hindered, that the latter, however, remains captively connected to the manhole.

It can be seen from the preceding illustration that the combination of manhole and safety valve insert according to the invention provides the greatest possible distance between the outflow surface of the valve or its blow-out opening and the liquid level in the container, even if the vehicle carrying it is inclined. In the event of the valve being blown out, this greater distance also provides a correspondingly greater degree of security against partial entrainment of liquid when the safety valve is opened. Since the valve body or the insert carrying it is largely included in the container, the attachments due to the attachment of the safety valve, which are external to the container, turn out to be relatively small, as a result of which the overall height is advantageously influenced. This improves the utilization of the construction volume and thus the suitability of the container according to the invention as a transport container for maritime traffic. Finally, the cover 3 in connection with the clamping ring 19 also provides reliable protection of the safety valve against environmental influences of any kind.
