Definitions
- the invention relates to a PTC thermistor heater according to the preamble of claim 1.
- a heater is known from DE-OS 30 42 420.
- PTC radiators of the aforementioned type generally contain several flat heating elements which, if necessary by an insulating plate with openings for receiving the heating elements, are kept at a mutual distance and are clamped between two electrode plates which supply the heating elements with current.
- the heat developed in the PTC heating elements is emitted from their flat sides to the outside, which requires good heat conduction between the PTC heating element and the heat sink as a consumer.
- the invention has for its object to provide a PTC thermistor of the type mentioned, which is particularly suitable for heating a tubular heat sink.
- the invention provides a PTC heating element in which, with the aid of the angled edge strips attached to the covering element, the heat absorbed by the covering element is directed in approximately the same direction in which the side of the PTC heating element facing away from the covering element emits its heat.
- the heat emitted on both sides by the PTC heating element is thus dissipated to essentially one side, where it can be emitted to a heat sink which is accommodated in the channel which is formed in the carrier profile body.
- This channel can in particular have a semicircular cross section, so that a tube with a circular cross section can be accommodated in it.
- the individual parts of the radiator can be joined together in a very simple manner, without the need for any bending processes or casting, the individual components only need to be superimposed in a suitable manner and are then clamped together by at least one clamping bracket and secured to each other.
- the PTC heater consists of a carrier profile body 1, a PTC heater from four PTC resistance elements 2 in the present case (FIG. 2e), a position plate 3 which secures the PTC resistance elements 2 in their position , and upper and lower contact plates 4 and 5 with connecting conductors 6, an insulating film 7, a heat-conducting bracket 8 and a spring clip bracket 9.
- the carrier profile body 1 consists of a highly thermally conductive material, for example aluminum or copper, and has no bearing surface 10 for receiving the PTC heating element.
- a channel 11 is formed below the support surface 10, which in the present case has an approximately semicircular cross section.
- walls 12 extend upwards, which have laterally projecting edges 13 and 14 at their upper and lower ends.
- a groove 15 is formed between each of these walls 12 and the walls that delimit the channel 11.
- the position plate 3 has four openings 16, which are intended for receiving the PTC resistance elements 2 and are correspondingly adapted to their sizes.
- the position plate 3 consists of an insulating material and has notches 17 on both sides of the edges.
- the Contact plates 4 and 5 have on their longitudinal edges downwardly angled lugs 18 and 19 and cutouts 20 and 21, the lugs and the cutouts on the contact plates being aligned with respect to one another such that after the sandwiching of the contact plates , the position plate and the PTC resistance elements existing PTC heating element and the bending of the flags 18 and 19 do not touch the two contact plates.
- This structure of the PTC heating element is already known from DE-0S 3D 42 420.
- the heating element is wrapped by the insulating film 7 (see FIG. 1) and in this state lies on the support surface 10.
- the insulating film 7 electrically insulates the heating element from the carrier profile body 1, but ensures good heat transfer. It therefore consists of a highly thermally conductive material.
- the heating element thus insulated is covered by the heat-conducting bracket 8, which consists of a highly heat-conductive material and has a cover plate 22, to which are connected laterally angled edge strips 23 which engage in the grooves 15 in the carrier profile body 1 and on the adjacent walls thereof fit tightly.
- the heat-conducting bracket 8 is held by the spring clip 9, which is locked on the edges 13 projecting on both sides on the walls 12 of the carrier profile body 1, as FIG. 1 clearly shows.
- the spring clip 9 is preferably provided in the middle with a bulge 24 which presses elastically on the heat-conducting bracket 8. Possibly.
- Several such spring clamps can be used if a particularly high compressive force and an associated improvement in the heat transfer to the carrier profile body 1 is desired.
- the heat given off by the heating element via the contact plates 4 and 5 and the insulating film 7 is absorbed, on the one hand, directly by the carrier profile body 1 and, on the other hand, is removed by the cover plate 22 of the heat-conducting bracket 8, from which it passes over the edge strips 23 in the lower region of the carrier profile body 1 is derived near the channel 11.
- the carrier profile body 1 can be clamped to a pipe (not shown) with the aid of a comparable spring clip (not shown), which is clamped at the edges 14, in order to give off heat thereon.
- a comparable spring clip (not shown)
- the cross section of the channel 11 need not be semicircular, but can also have any other shape adapted to the outline of the body to be heated.
- Fig. 3 shows a modified embodiment of a carrier profile body 1a, which has two contact surfaces 10 ⁇ and 10 ⁇ with associated walls, grooves, etc., which are arranged at an angle to one another and enclose the channel 11 between them. In this way it is possible to attach two PTC heating elements to the carrier profile body or to carry out a different mounting of the PTC heating element.
- an insulating film can be dispensed with if the carrier profile body consists of an insulating material, for example a ceramic material.
- the insulation can also be carried out by means of insulating plates, as is already known per se from the prior art.
- edge strips 13 and the grooves 15 are matched in their dimensions so that a good fit is achieved, so that sufficiently large thermal bridges arise.
- a certain elasticity of the material of the carrier profile body can also contribute to this, which permits a slight spreading of the grooves 15 due to a corresponding fit of edge strips and grooves.
- grooves can also be formed on the wall 12, into each of which one or more suitably designed spring clamps can be locked.

Description
The invention relates to a PTC thermistor heater according to the preamble of claim 1. Such a heater is known from DE-OS 30 42 420.
Die in den PTC-Heizelementen entwickelte Wärme wird von ihren Flachseiten nach außen abgegeben, wozu eine gute Wärmeleitung zwischen dem PTC-Heizkörper und d er Wärmesenke als Verbraucher erforderlich ist.PTC radiators of the aforementioned type generally contain several flat heating elements which, if necessary by an insulating plate with openings for receiving the heating elements, are kept at a mutual distance and are clamped between two electrode plates which supply the heating elements with current. The heat developed in the PTC heating elements is emitted from their flat sides to the outside, which requires good heat conduction between the PTC heating element and the heat sink as a consumer.
To achieve good heat dissipation from a PTC heating element, it is known from DE-AS 20 02 254 to shed the heat-generating PTC heating element in a housing with paraffin, so that the heat is dissipated from the heating element on all sides. From DE-OS 22 63 020 it is known to cast the PTC heating element in a surrounding housing by means of a thermally conductive, electrically insulating compound.
From DE-PS 26 14 433 it is known to transfer the heat from flat PTC heating elements, which are arranged within a sleeve surrounding them, with the aid of resilient sheets to the sleeve, each having a leg lying flat on the heating elements and have a curved leg abutting the sleeve wall. In this way, heat dissipation from both sides of the heating elements is achieved to the same extent on the sleeve.
There are often applications in which heat is to be transferred to a heat consumer on one side. Such an example is shown in US-PS 40 91 267, in which an electric water heater is described, consisting of a vessel that is heated from the outside by means of a PTC heater. This radiator is attached to a stone wall of the container and contains a PTC heating element which is arranged adjacent to the housing wall within a housing and is embedded in a ceramic film. Due to different heat dissipation properties on both sides of the heating element, this arrangement can result in the heating element being warmer on one side than on the other side, therefore increasing its resistance accordingly and not ensuring optimal heat development.
There are also applications in which pipes have to be heated, for example the rectification column in an absorption refrigeration system, in which heat is therefore to be transferred from a generally flat heating element to a heat sink with a curved surface. Such an application is extremely unfavorable with regard to heat transfer, because heat has to be transferred from a two-sided radiating heating element to a one-sided heat sink. The danger that the self-limiting effect of the heating element occurs prematurely and therefore the heating capacity of the PTC element is not optimally used is therefore particularly great in such a case.
The invention has for its object to provide a PTC thermistor of the type mentioned, which is particularly suitable for heating a tubular heat sink.
This object is achieved by the characterizing features of claim 1. Advantageous embodiments of the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.
The invention provides a PTC heating element in which, with the aid of the angled edge strips attached to the covering element, the heat absorbed by the covering element is directed in approximately the same direction in which the side of the PTC heating element facing away from the covering element emits its heat. The heat emitted on both sides by the PTC heating element is thus dissipated to essentially one side, where it can be emitted to a heat sink which is accommodated in the channel which is formed in the carrier profile body. This channel can in particular have a semicircular cross section, so that a tube with a circular cross section can be accommodated in it.
It is essential for the invention that the individual parts of the radiator can be joined together in a very simple manner, without the need for any bending processes or casting, the individual components only need to be superimposed in a suitable manner and are then clamped together by at least one clamping bracket and secured to each other.

The carrier profile body 1 consists of a highly thermally conductive material, for example aluminum or copper, and has no
The
The heating element is wrapped by the insulating film 7 (see FIG. 1) and in this state lies on the
In use, the heat given off by the heating element via the
The carrier profile body 1 can be clamped to a pipe (not shown) with the aid of a comparable spring clip (not shown), which is clamped at the
Fig. 3 shows a modified embodiment of a
It should be emphasized that the use of an insulating film can be dispensed with if the carrier profile body consists of an insulating material, for example a ceramic material. Alternatively, the insulation can also be carried out by means of insulating plates, as is already known per se from the prior art.
It is for an intense heat transfer from the top of the PTC heating element towards the
Finally, it should be mentioned that instead of the laterally projecting
