Abstract

The device comprises a toothed strap with saw teeth (4), which is fixed, at one of its ends, to the boot (1) and carries a sliding U-piece (7) on which a ratchet (8) cooperating with the toothed strap is pivotably mounted. Above these teeth (10), the ratchet has a groove (11) inside which the bar (11) of a buckle (14) integral with another part of the boot is engaged. The U-piece is provided with two hook-shaped recesses located opposite the groove (11). The hinging pin (15) of the buckle, which at the same time acts as a tensioning lever, engages inside a groove (13). The ratchet pin is subject to a small degree of strain and accidental opening of the buckle due to pressure on the end of the latter is prevented.

Description

The present invention has, according to the preamble of claim 1, a device for closing two parts of a shoe comprising a toothed belt intended to be fixed to one of the parts of the shoe, hooking means mounted sliding on and around the toothed belt and provided with a locking device on the toothed belt in a chosen position, and a rectangular loop secured to a tensioning lever, intended to be fixed to the other part of the shoe and coming from 'hang on said hooking means.

Such a device is known (CH-A-638 085) comprising a toothed belt on its lower face and on which the attachment means, comprising a stirrup provided with two lugs and a latching part articulated on this stirrup, are fixed by pinching and engaging two lugs of the caliper in the teeth of the belt. The buckle is of the conventional type articulated on a tensioning lever itself articulated on a stirrup fixed on the other part of the shoe. To significantly modify the tension setting of this closing device, it is necessary to raise the latching member to separate it from the belt. Such an operation requires a certain force and cannot be carried out very quickly.

It is also well known to use as a connecting member, instead of a loop, a toothed belt with wolf teeth which is put under a pawl secured to the other part of the shoe, the tension of the toothed belt being ensured in a conventional manner by means of a tensioning lever. In such a device, all the tensile force on the toothed belt is supported by the axis of the pawl which must therefore be dimensioned accordingly.

It has also been proposed (CH-A 406 901) to tension a cable by means of a tensioning lever mounted on a slider capable of being immobilized on a rack by means of a ratchet. In this device the tension force is also entirely supported by the axis of the pawl.

Un tel dispositif est défini à la partie caractérisante de la revendication 1.The object of the present invention is to provide a toothed belt closing device of the quick-setting type, with a ratchet and of compact shape, in which the axis of the pawl is not very stressed. Such a device is defined in the characterizing part of claim 1.

The loop coming to hang on the pawl itself, just above its beak, the axis of the pawl does not have to support the strong traction of the closing device, but only a force approximately perpendicular to the pawl resulting from the torque generated by the tensile force relative to the spout of the pawl, this force acting on the axis of the pawl being relatively very low. Thus, even using a ratchet axis of small diameter, one does not have to fear breakage of this axis.

The part of the device secured to the other part of the shoe is particularly simple, since it consists of a single piece simultaneously forming a loop and tensioner.

The device also has the advantage that the part of the shoe carrying the buckle covers and hides the part of the toothed belt comprised between the hooking means and its free end, thus preventing this end of the toothed belt from s' move away from the shoe and accidentally catch on a foreign object.

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the support of the pawl has two cutouts in the extension of the groove of the pawl and two notches in which is housed and positioned the axis of the articulation of the loop. The profile of the cutouts is such that when the loop is closed, that is to say folded over the hooking means, the loop is locked, that is to say that it cannot escape from the pawl by pivoting about its median axis, in the notches of the support. These notches also ensure alignment of the loop relative to the toothed belt and the pawl, thus avoiding torsional forces and poor distribution of the pressure of the pawl spout on the tooth, respectively the teeth of the toothed belt.

  • FIG. 5 represents the closing device at the instant preceding the attachment of the loop to the attachment member.

The sectional view shown in Figure 1 is a horizontal section through the upper of a ski boot showing approximately the left half of the left boot, the front of the boot being located on the right in the drawing. This rod 1 is in one piece open at the front and having two flaps 2 and 3 overlapping at the front. On the side and behind the rod 1 is fixed a toothed belt 4 by means of a rivet 5. This belt 4 is made of relatively hard synthetic material. It has a wolf teeth toothing 6, that is to say teeth having an oblique flank and a flank perpendicular to the belt. On and around the toothed belt 6 is mounted a metal stirrup 7 between the wings of which is mounted a pawl 8 by means of a pin 9. This pawl 8 has a double spout 10 kept engaged in the teeth 6 of the toothed belt at by means of a torsion spring mounted around the axis 9. Above its double spout 10, the pawl has a transverse groove 11 having a hook-shaped profile and constituting precisely the hooking member. The toothed belt 4 passes naturally between the bottom of the stirrup and the pawl 8 and it is pinched between these two parts.

L'étrier 7 présente en outre, à l'autre extrémité, deux encoches arrondies et alignées 13.As this is better illustrated in FIG. 5, in which the stirrup is not cut, the wings of this stirrup er have two cutouts 12 of identical profile to the profile of the groove 11 and located in the extension of this groove. The stirrup 7 also has, at the other end, two rounded and aligned notches 13.

At the end of the flap 3 of the rod is articulated a rectangular loop 14 around a transverse axis 15 passing approximately through the middle of the loop and held in a metal reinforcement piece 16 in the shape of a U, fixed by rivets to the flap 3 of the rod and surrounding a rectangular cutout 17 in which the loop 14 can pivot. The loop 14 has two parallel arms 18 and 19 between which is fixed a bar 20.

Le volet 3 de la tige présente en outre un dégagement 23 sur sa face intérieure pour le passage de la courroie dentée 4.The reverse of the loop has a U-shaped profile 21 which releases the articulation axis 15 in the central part of the loop, so that this axis can be received in the notches 13 of the stirrup 7. The loop 14 being articulated at an intermediate point, it simultaneously constitutes a tensioning lever. The toothed belt 4 has at its free end an enlargement 22 forming a stop for the stirrup 7. The flap 3 of the rod also has a clearance 23 on its inner face for the passage of the toothed belt 4.

The closing device shown is used in the following manner: the loop 14 is placed in the position shown in FIG. 5, that is to say its bar 20 forward relative to the flap 3 of the rod. The loop 14 is then hooked to the pawl 8 by engaging its bar 20 in the groove 11 of the pawl 8, that is to say also in the two cutouts 12 of the stirrup 7. In this engaged position, the user can carry out a pre-adjustment of the tightening tension, pre-adjustment going in the direction of a greater tension, by pushing the stirrup 7 in the direction of the arrow F1 with the loop 14. In this direction, the pawl 8 jumps on the teeth of the belt 4. To close and tighten the closing device, it is then sufficient to pull or push the lever of the loop 14 in the direction of the arrow F2. The loop 14 is then folded back on the toothed belt 4, its articulation axis 15 coming to engage in the notches 13 of the stirrup 7, notch whose rounded shape and radius correspond to those of the axis 15. The loop 14 is thus perfectly maintained in position aligned with the stirrup 7, so that its bar 20 is pressed regularly in the groove 11 of the pawl 8. The traction exerted by this bar 20 on the pawl 8 acts directly on the double pawl spout 10 and not via the axis 9 of the pawl, so that this axis is only stressed by the tilting torque of the pawl around its double spout 10. However, this force is relatively small. This force could be further reduced by tilting slightly backwards, that is to say to the left in the drawing, the perpendicular flanks of the wolf teeth. The loop 14 is also locked against an accidental opening due to an impact or a pressure on the lever arm of the loop as this can occur for certain previous loops. Indeed, pressure on the lever arm of the loop 14 tends to rotate the loop around its axis 15 in the notches 13 of the stirrup. The bar 20 of the loop is however retained by the edge of the cutouts 12 in the form of a hook so that the loop 14 is somehow locked in this direction.

To move the stirrup 7 to the right, it suffices to disengage the pawl 8 from the toothing 6 of the belt by pressing on the part of the pawl located to the left of its axis of articulation.

Considering Figure 1 we see that the toothed belt 4 automatically passes under the flap 3 of the shoe and that it is therefore hidden and protected. In addition, the attachment means are located largely in the thickness of the flap 3, which considerably reduces the size of the closure device.

The invention is of course susceptible of numerous variants. In particular, the notches 13 could be removed and the axis 15 could simply come beyond the stirrup 7. The cutouts 12 of the stirrup 7 could also be removed, the attachment having to be done above all on the ratchet 8. This ratchet could have a different shape, as could the buckle 14.

Claims (2)

1. Device for closing two parts of a boot, comprising a toothed strap (4) intended to be fixed to one of the parts (2) of the boot, fastening means (7) which are mounted so as to slide on and around the toothed strap and are provided with a locking device (8) cooperating with the toothed strap in a selected position, and a rectangular buckle (14) which is connected with a tensioning lever and is intended to be fixed to the other part (3) of the boot and which engages onto the said fastening means, characterized by the fact that the toothed strap (4) has teeth (6) having an oblique flank and a flank perpendicular to the strap, that the device for locking the fastening means consists of a spring-loaded pawl (8) provided with a tip (10) and cooperating with the teeth of the strap and at the same time acting as the fastening means and having, for this purpose, a transverse groove (11) with a hook-shaped profile located above the tip (10) of the pawl and intended to receive the rectangular buckle (14), and that said buckle (14) and its tensioning lever form a single piece intended to be hinged with the end of the other part (3), in its middle area, by a transverse pin (15), and being pressed down against the strap after being hooked onto the ratchet and tensioned.
2. Closing device as claimed in claim 1, characterized by the fact that the ratchet (8) is hinged between the flanges of a U-piece (7) having, on the one hand, recesses (12) possessing a profile identical to the profile of the groove (11) in the ratchet and forming an extension of this groove and, on the other hand, two coaxial notches located at the opposite end to the tip of the ratchet and intended to receive the pin (15) of the buckle when the latter is in the pressed down position, the profile of the said recesses (12) being such that the buckle cannot escape from the said recesses by pivoting about its pin (15) inside the said notches.
