Description

The present invention relates to a transmission mechanism interposed between a driving shaft and a driven shaft, particularly applicable to automobile, nautical and other industrial uses in general.

More specifically, the mechanism according to the invention is intended to serve as a clutch between a driving shaft and a driven shaft.

Conventional clutches, especially those used in automobile and nautical construction, have the disadvantage of being limited when one wants to have, on the driven transmission shaft, the maximum engine torque of the driven shaft, without risk of damage.

The object of the invention is to provide a transmission mechanism which can be used particularly as a clutch and which does not have the limitations of conventional clutches.

Another object of the invention is to provide a transmission mechanism which can also serve as a speed controller, torque converter, speed regulator and retarder.

According to the invention, the coupling mechanism for transmission comprises a support frame in which are mounted, free in rotation, two independent and aligned half-shafts, interconnected by an intermediate assembly of planetary gears and satellites, the satellites being mounted in a cage which is independent of the support frame and which surrounds the planets.

The cage which surrounds the planets and the satellites carries two external flywheels which are coaxial with the half-shafts, each of these flywheels being placed on one of the sides of the cage or of the support and being crossed by the half trees. In addition, the flywheels carry a series of coils which are supplied via a collector mounted externally on the cage. As indicated, the flywheels are crossed by the half-shafts mounted to rotate freely.

The mechanism according to the invention further comprises two other drive wheels, made of ferromagnetic material, which are each mounted integrally on one of the half-shafts, and in positions parallel to the flywheels which carry the coils, and close to these ruffles.

Braking coils are mounted on the support frame, which are placed opposite the drive wheels. The frame also carries reversing reels which are placed opposite the flywheels carrying the reels.

Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will be better understood on reading the description which follows of an exemplary embodiment and with reference to the appended drawings, in which:
  • Figure 1 is a diametrical section of a coupling mechanism constructed according to the invention?
  • FIG. 2 is a detail of the mechanism of FIG. 1.

As can be seen in Figure 1, the coupling mechanism comprises a support frame 1 in which are mounted, free to rotate, and by means of bearings 2 and 3, two independent and aligned half-shafts 4 and 5. These two half-shafts are connected to each other by a set of planets 6 and satellites 7, housed in a cage 8 which is independent of the casing 1. Each of the planets 6 is integral with one of the half-shafts 4 and 5 while that the satellites 7 are mounted in the cage 8.

Les volants 10 et 11 portent une série de bobines 12 alimentées par l'intermédiaire du collecteur 9.This cage also carries, externally mounted, a collector 9 intended to take the current on the on 10 'brushes. The cage 8 also carries, externally mounted, two flywheels 10 and 11 coaxial with the two half-shafts 4 and 5 and each located on one side of this cage, these flywheels being traversed by the aforementioned half-axes mounted free in rotation. The flywheels 10 and 11 carry a series of coils 12 supplied via the collector 9.

The coupling mechanism further comprises two drive wheels 13 and 14 made of ferromagnetic material. The flywheel 13 is mounted integrally on the half-shaft 4 while the flywheel 14 is mounted integrally on the half-shaft 5. These flywheels are parallel to the flywheels 10 and 11 provided with coils 12 and close to the latter.

Le bâti 1 porte en outre des bobines de freinage 15 et des bobines d'inversion de marche 16.The frame 1 also carries braking coils 15 and reversing coils 16.

La fixation des volants 13 et 14 aux demi-arbres correspondants s'effectue au moyen des flasques cannelés 17.The flywheels 13 and 14 are fixed to the corresponding half-shafts by means of fluted flanges 17.

The brushes 10 'are mounted in a support which at the same time carries the reversing coils 16.

The flywheels 10, 11 reel holders have, on their surface which faces the drive flywheels, recesses or grooves, for example, in the form of a circular crown, in which the reels 12 are housed.

With the constitution thus described, and if the half-shaft 5 is that which is connected to the drive motor, the rotation of this half-shaft will cause the rotation of the flywheel 14 and of the cage 8 in which the planets and satellites are housed , without the half-shaft 4 being driven. As soon as the coils 12 of the flywheels 10 and 11 are excited, the rotation of the flywheel 10 with its excited coils, will cause the rotation of the flywheel 13 and, with it, that of the half-shaft 4. By excitation of the coils 16, the braking of the steering wheels 10 and 11, thereby producing the reversal of motion using the set of planets and satellites.

The exploded view of FIG. 2 represents a possible embodiment, in which the identical elements are designated by the same reference numbers.

The flywheels 10 and 11 have a tubular shaft 18 axially traversed by the corresponding half-shafts with the interposition of bearings 19. In this exploded view, we can note the toroidal recess of the flywheels 10 and 11 and the similar configuration adopted for the assembly coils 12. The tubular shafts 18 pass through the flywheels 13 and 14, with mounting by means of bearings 20, grease retaining rings 21 and a fixing nut 22.

In this FIG. 2, there is also a particular shape of the cage or of the planet carrier body 8 on which the socket-outlet collector 9 is mounted.

Since, in the mechanism according to the invention, transmission occurs using a magnetic field, by varying the intensity of this field, either by the number of excited coils, or by the intensity d 'excitation of these, we can vary the driving force from zero to make it equal to that of the drive shaft, in the use of this mechanism as a clutch. This device brings, among other things, the enormous advantage of making it possible to engage by taking advantage of the maximum torque of the engine (high speed of rotation of the driving shaft) without risk for the integrity of the device, thereby solving the problem mentioned. at the beginning of this brief.

Since the entrainment of one of the half-trees, leading and led, occurs by means of the action of the magnetic field of variable intensity mentioned above, for a given value of the number of turns of the driving shaft, the desired number of turns is obtained on the same shaft by a simple adjustment of the intensity of the magnetic flux, which makes it possible to use the mechanism as speed variator.

It appears from what has been explained above that the mechanism fulfills the conditions of a conventional torque converter, with the advantage over the latter of simplicity and lower cost.

In addition, the mechanism according to the invention can be used as a cruise control. This quality has its greatest application in the automotive field, in particular in the case of the use of an automobile in areas with limited speed. When the tachometer needle is placed in the position chosen in advance, an electronic mechanism can act on the electromagnetic coils of the retarder by increasing the action of the latter as a function of the excursion described by this needle.

The use of the mechanism according to the invention as a retarder is obtained by means of the electric coils 15 provided for the electromagnetic braking of the transmission shafts.

Finally, the mechanism according to the invention can be used as a reverser since the coils 16 are fixed to the frame 1 and that, when the latter receive current, they brake, thanks to the magnetic field created, the central rotor constituted by the flywheels 10 and 11 and by the cage 8 of the planetaries and satellites, by determining in this way the reversal of operation on the driven half-shaft, by means of said planetaries and satellites.

Provision can be made for the flywheel 10 to have a larger radius, which makes it possible to couple a series of friction elements which are constantly pressed by springs. against the drive wheel 13, so that when the two shafts rotate at the same speed, the clutch behaves like a mechanical clutch, which can be eliminated by means of the corresponding electric coils while its peripheral edge serves as a disc for at least one caliper which acts as a brake disc and which is used in the case of reverse gear.

Of course, various modifications may be made to the device which has just been described only by way of nonlimiting example without departing from the scope of the invention.
