Definitions
- the subject of the present invention is improvements to display devices of the date type used on devices intended to indicate time such as, in particular, watches.
- these devices include a window provided in the watch face, through which the user can observe the signs to be displayed, arranged on a disc driven in rotation by the movement of the watch.
- the watch shown in FIG. 1 is a watch of a known type, in which a disc 1, bearing on its upper side the signs to be displayed, is rotated by the movement of the watch and scrolls during its rotation opposite a window 5 provided in the dial 3. It is clear that, in this watch, all of the the image located in the portion a of the disc is hidden from view by the observer located at 0 by the corner 7 of the window. In addition, as can also be seen in FIG. 1, the part of the image visible through the window 5 is not, beyond a given incidence of the light rays, fully illuminated. Indeed, we can easily see that part b of the image of the disc protected by the edge 8 of the window is located in a half-light zone.
- the object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks by proposing a display system which is completely free from the lighting and masking faults mentioned above and which allows the user to read from an observation angle. practically any.
- the subject of the invention is a watch or the like equipped with a date-type display device, in which the signs to be displayed are carried by a mobile support and are perceived by an observer through a window. formed in a part of the watch, this watch being characterized in that a bundle of coherent optical fibers is engaged in said window in such a way that one end of said bundle is disposed near the mobile support, while its other end is flush a visible face of an element of the watch, distinct or not from the part in which said window is formed.
- This visible face will constitute the reading plane of the display system and it may be constituted by the upper face of the watch face, the window being provided in this case in said face to the right of the movable support and the bundle of optical fibers flush the upper face of the dial.
- the reading plane could also consist of the upper face of the watch crystal, the bundle of optical fibers extending through a window provided in the dial directly above the mobile support up to the upper face of the ice.
- the reading plane may finally be constituted by an upper face of the watch case, the window being in this case formed in the body of the case directly above the mobile support, up to an upper face of the case, and said beam of fibers being housed in this window so as to be flush with said upper face.
- an optical bridge consisting of a low viscosity liquid will be interposed between the support of the signs to be displayed and the contiguous end of the bundle of optical fibers.
- the image of the displayed sign is thus improved in clarity by avoiding multiple parasitic reflections at the level of the surfaces of the fiber bundles and of the observation surface.
- the risk of scratches on the adjacent surfaces is avoided during the movement of the support of the signs to be displayed, since they can thus be moved away sufficiently without risking harming the sharpness.
- the lubrication ensured by the liquid will prevent the formation of scratches.
- the bundle of fibers is mounted "floating" on the film of liquid deposited on the disc, its lateral retention being ensured by the internal walls of the window. It is noted that in addition to its simplicity, this embodiment has the advantage of ensuring a constant spacing between the bundle of fibers and the disc. This results in practically total elimination, on the one hand, of the risks of scratches and, on the other hand, of irregularities in the image observed due to the differences in distance between the disc and the bundle of fibers.
- the liquid may rest on the upper face of the support of the signs to be displayed or be housed in a bowl of said support.
- This liquid could simply be an oil of the type used in watchmaking for the lubrication of small movements.
- the case 20 is closed at its upper part by a crystal 22. It supports a dial 24 pierced in its center with an orifice 26 intended for the passage of two axes 28 and 30, carrying respectively the hands 32 and 34 of the watch. It is also pierced with a circular window 36, in which is fixed, for example by gluing, a bundle 38 of coherent optical fibers.
- the upper end 40 of the beam 38 is arranged in the upper plane of the dial 24 and its lower end 42 is located a short distance from the surface of a rotating disc 44 carrying the signs to be displayed, dates for example.
- the signs will appear, like the hour indications, not as being located at the bottom of the bowl, but on the surface of the dial, on which they will stand out clearly, as can be seen in FIG. 3 ( see also figure 8).
- the window 36 ′ in which the bundle 38 of optical fibers is housed is formed in a lateral part of the case 20, directly above the disc 44, and the upper end of the bundle 38 is flush with the upper face of the housing, which then constitutes the reading plane.
- the window 36 in which the bundle of optical fibers 38 is engaged is formed in the dial 34, as in the case of the embodiment of FIG. 2, but its upper part is engaged in a slot 46 formed in the crystal 22 of the watch, on the outer surface of which is flush with the upper end of said beam.
- Figures 6 and 7 illustrate two alternative embodiments of the watch according to Figure 2, in which the bundle 38 of optical fibers is always housed in a window 36 of the dial 24, but where an optical bridge, intended to ensure the quality of the reading of the displayed signs is provided between the end of the beam 38 and the disc 44.
- the bundle 38 is integral with the dial 24 and the face of the rotating disc 44 facing the lower end of said bundle is coated with a liquid 48 with a low viscosity index, for example an oil for movement timepieces of the type marketed by the HOBIUS Company under reference No. 9027.
- the oil film is in contact with the adjacent end of the beam 38 and thus provides an optical bridge between the fibers and the disc 44. It removes or also reduces the risk of scratches due to accidental contact of the fiber bundle and the dial.
- the liquid 48 is placed in an annular bowl of the disc 44, in which the lower end of the bundle 38 of optical fibers rests, and this bundle, instead of being rigidly secured to the dial 24 is mounted floating in the window 36, the side walls of which simply serve to guide and maintain the bundle 38.
- the bundle 38 of fibers can move under the stress of the disc 44 while maintaining a constant distance from that -this. This avoids any risk of scratches on the disc and / or the end face of the fiber bundle.
- the invention therefore provides improvements which are simple and easy to implement in watches or the like equipped with a mobile display system of the date type, with a view to improving the observation of the indications carried by the display system.

Description
The subject of the present invention is improvements to display devices of the date type used on devices intended to indicate time such as, in particular, watches.
Usually, these devices include a window provided in the watch face, through which the user can observe the signs to be displayed, arranged on a disc driven in rotation by the movement of the watch.
A major drawback inherent in this type of display, however, lies in the difficulty of perceiving the signs displayed, since the observer is not strictly in the axis of the window.

The watch shown in FIG. 1 is a watch of a known type, in which a disc 1, bearing on its upper side the signs to be displayed, is rotated by the movement of the watch and scrolls during its rotation opposite a
It has certainly been proposed, to partially remedy these two drawbacks, to reduce the apparent thickness of the dial by making chamfers on the internal edges of the window. However, this arrangement is not entirely satisfactory, especially since, for mechanical reasons (warping of the rotating disc), it is necessary to provide a relatively large space between the dial and the rotating disc.
It has also been proposed, in order to improve the ease of reading, to enlarge the dimensions of the signs displayed by means of a magnifying glass fixed on the crystal of the watch or forming an integral part thereof. In addition to the fact that this solution does not remedy the aforementioned masking and half-light faults, it also reduces the angle under which it is possible for the user to read.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks by proposing a display system which is completely free from the lighting and masking faults mentioned above and which allows the user to read from an observation angle. practically any.
To this end, the subject of the invention is a watch or the like equipped with a date-type display device, in which the signs to be displayed are carried by a mobile support and are perceived by an observer through a window. formed in a part of the watch, this watch being characterized in that a bundle of coherent optical fibers is engaged in said window in such a way that one end of said bundle is disposed near the mobile support, while its other end is flush a visible face of an element of the watch, distinct or not from the part in which said window is formed.
This visible face will constitute the reading plane of the display system and it may be constituted by the upper face of the watch face, the window being provided in this case in said face to the right of the movable support and the bundle of optical fibers flush the upper face of the dial.
The reading plane could also consist of the upper face of the watch crystal, the bundle of optical fibers extending through a window provided in the dial directly above the mobile support up to the upper face of the ice.
The reading plane may finally be constituted by an upper face of the watch case, the window being in this case formed in the body of the case directly above the mobile support, up to an upper face of the case, and said beam of fibers being housed in this window so as to be flush with said upper face.
Advantageously, an optical bridge consisting of a low viscosity liquid will be interposed between the support of the signs to be displayed and the contiguous end of the bundle of optical fibers. On the one hand, the image of the displayed sign is thus improved in clarity by avoiding multiple parasitic reflections at the level of the surfaces of the fiber bundles and of the observation surface. On the other hand, the risk of scratches on the adjacent surfaces is avoided during the movement of the support of the signs to be displayed, since they can thus be moved away sufficiently without risking harming the sharpness. In addition, in the event that these two surfaces come into contact, the lubrication ensured by the liquid will prevent the formation of scratches.
In a particularly advantageous variant of the invention, the bundle of fibers is mounted "floating" on the film of liquid deposited on the disc, its lateral retention being ensured by the internal walls of the window.
The liquid may rest on the upper face of the support of the signs to be displayed or be housed in a bowl of said support.
This liquid could simply be an oil of the type used in watchmaking for the lubrication of small movements.
Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear in the detailed description which follows, in which reference will be made to figures 2 to 8 of the appended drawings.
In the watch of FIGS. 2 and 3, the
In the embodiments of Figures 4 to 7, the members described in connection with Figure 2 conscreate the same reference numbers.
In the watch of FIG. 4, the
In FIG. 5, the
In the case of FIG. 6, the
In the variant of FIG. 7, the
The invention therefore provides improvements which are simple and easy to implement in watches or the like equipped with a mobile display system of the date type, with a view to improving the observation of the indications carried by the display system.
