Abstract

The invention relates to a tear-open flap orifice on packs consisting of plastic-coated laminated material with a folded-round fillet-seam closure (10), there being in a first seam region (14) at least one full cut and in a second seam region (15) at least one weakening line in the form of a half cut which extends beyond the second seam region into the region of the first pack surface in contact with the filling material of the pack. As a result of an appropriate arrangement of the full cuts and half cuts, an easy-to-handle tear-open flap orifice is obtained by simple means for the entire range from drinking-straw, pour-out, drinking and spoon orifices to separating-strip orifices on freeze packs.

Description

The invention relates to a tear-open tab opening and a method for producing such on packages made of plastic-coated composite material with a folded-over web seam closure. Such packs belong to the prior art.

Tear tab openings on packs have become known in many designs. It is known to make punchings or punchings in the opening area of a pack, which are then subsequently closed again with tear-open tabs. However, these tabs, which are not integral with the pack, are disadvantageous insofar as, in the case of sensitive products, for which not only dust-proof but also liquid-tight or gas-tight packaging is required, but especially with aseptic packaging, the originally full-surface inner coating of the composite material in the area of the opening is broken, which can lead to a reduction in the quality of the contents. Furthermore, these tear-open tabs and the application process necessary for their attachment to the packaging are very complex.

Tear tabs have therefore already been developed which are formed in one piece with the pack. For example, European patent application 39 116 shows and describes a liquid pack with a tear tab opening into which a straw can be inserted. The drinking straw hole is integrated in the side seam of the pack and is limited by incisions and cutouts in it. Optionally, another incision in the above "" can be provided covered seam part to solve and the 'hite the top layer of the composite material to avoid unnecessary opening. The pull tabs created in this way are very short and easier to handle only when using complex shape cuts. The tear-open tab opening is also arranged in the area of an overlap seam, which can therefore only be used in product groups that do not require all-round edge protection. It is therefore not suitable for aseptic packs.

A further tear tab opening has become known from US Pat. No. 4,244,474, in which a tear tab can be formed by incisions in the carrier material of the composite material that run parallel to one another. This finally merges into a circular opening which, like the surface between the cuts, is still covered by the non-severed layers of the composite material. This opening can therefore only be used and is therefore only designed for this purpose if this existing layer is pierced with a straw.

Finally, from the Canadian patent 678 370 a package with a tear tab opening has become known, in which continuous cuts and perforations are provided in the area of an overlap seam, so that the packaging can be torn open to achieve an opening. The opening via the tear-open tab is also opened by further, approximately V-shaped incisions in the other pack surface when tearing open. In addition to the fact that such a closure device is not suitable for aseptic packaging with all-round edge protection due to a folded-over seam, there is also the fact that again a complex cut of the facade is necessary to provide the corresponding incisions in the area of the overlap seam.

The invention is therefore based on the object of creating a tear-open tab opening on packs of plastic-coated composite material with a folded seam seal, which can be produced simply and inexpensively without the use of elaborate shape cuts and which is easy and convenient to handle while avoiding uncontrolled damage to the folded seam seal.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that the folded-over web seam closure in at least one through an incision in the first pack area in a first seam region extending from a longitudinal edge of a first packing area to approximately the folded-over edge of a second packing area connected to the first packing area via the web seam closure formed full cut and in a second seam area adjoining the first seam area as an extension of the full cut has at least one weakening line which extends beyond the second seam area into the area of the first packing surface contacting the filling material. With the means according to the invention, a tear-open tab opening is obtained which enables safe handling with simple manufacture. This ensures that there is no damage or weakening of the inner coating contacting the contents of the pack.

In an expedient embodiment, the weakening line or the weakening lines are formed by a half-cut that only partially cuts through the single-layer or multi-layer wall of the first packing surface. It goes without saying. that a perforation can also be used instead of a half cut. In order to improve the handling of the tear-open tab opening on the one hand and to ensure the necessary tightness of the pack on the other hand, according to a further feature of the invention it is provided that the first seam region or the full cuts has a wider design than the second seam region or the half cuts.

If then, according to a further feature of the invention, in the upper side of the second packaging surface facing the first packaging surface in a region of the web seam closure which is delimited by the full section or sections and forms a scribing flap, one with a small distance, e.g. 0-3 mm parallel to the longitudinal edge of the first package surface, the line of weakness (half-cut) is arranged, the package can be opened even more easily because the scribing tab is gripped very easily and the entire opening is made via this and the subsequent lines of weakness can be.

Instead of the line of weakness running parallel to the edge, an anti-adhesive can be applied in the area of the web seam closure delimited by the full cut or the half cuts or between the top of the second packing surface and the adjacent underside of the first packing surface and the underside of the folded edge. In this case, too, the tear-open tab opening can be opened well via the scribing tab and the subsequent detonation of the edge protector and the inner coating, so that the product space is easily accessible.

The opening flap delimited by a single full cut can be arranged in a corner region of the web seam closure or else in the central region thereof. In this case, the area delimiting the opening tab is formed by two full cuts spaced apart from one another. Weakening lines can then connect to the full cut (s) in the desired manner, e.g. in such a way that a dividing strip running around the pack is formed between the weakening lines, or else in such a way that the two full cuts are connected to one another by a common half cut.

With a corresponding outward course of the weakening lines, starting from the full cut or cuts, in addition to drinking straw, pouring and drinking opening, spoon openings can also be formed in the package. It is expedient here if the lines of weakness taper behind the full cuts and the opening tip extends into the area of the ear-like folding triangles abutting the sides of the pack. Such packs are easy to open and no filling material is spilled when opening, since the pack stands fully on a base with the pack bottom and this while maintaining the folding geometry, i.e. there is no deformation of the product space. With the so-called ear packs, only the corner seam has to be put up.

Of particular importance for the present invention is a method suitable for attaching a tear-open tab opening to packs, which consists in the fact that the introduction of the full cut or cuts and the weakening line or lines (half cuts) into the pack areas in one operation together with the printing. The finished coated composite material is grooved and punched.

In this way, the tear-open tab opening or the full and half cut required for this in the film cut can be made very easily on a pressure die-cutter, no complicated shape cuts being necessary for the cut production, but this can be done by means of roll, longitudinal and cross cutters.

  • 14, 15 a pack in the top view and in a schematic representation with a spoon opening.

Eine weitere Schwächungslinie 13 kann in den Packungsflächen 5 und 6 vorgesehen sein, deren Zweck weiter unten näher erläutert wird.1 shows a blank of a composite material for the production of a package. The composite material consists in a known manner of an outer plastic coating, a carrier material consisting of cardboard or the like, a laminating film, an aluminum layer and an inner plastic coating. The blank 1 has packing areas 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, the packing area 2 being referred to in the further course of the description as the first packing area and the packing area 6 as the second packing area. After folding the blank 1 along groove lines 7 provided therein, the first packing surface 2 and the second packing surface 6 can be connected to one another by means of a folded-over web seam, as shown in FIG. 3. This is a peeled web seam, ie the free end of the second packing surface 6 is folded inwards, so that edge protection is created all around the seam. An incision in the form of a full cut 8 and a further full cut 9 and subsequent weakening lines in the form of a half cut 11, 12 are made in the packaging surface 2 brings. A further weakening line 13 can be provided in the packing surfaces 5 and 6, the purpose of which is explained in more detail below.

As can be seen from FIG. 2, the full cut 8 extends over a first seam region 14 of the web seam closure 10, the first seam region 14 being wider than a second seam region 15, over which the half-cut 11 extends and which finally extends even further over the packing surfaces 2 and 3 extends. The full cut 8 runs parallel to an edge 16 and transversely to a further edge 17 of the packing surface 2. The full cut 8 forms a scribing flap 18 in the web seam closure 10, below which a further flap parallel to the edge 17 for easier entrainment of the material from the packaging surface 6 A line of weakness in the form of a half-cut 19 runs, namely at a short distance of up to approximately 3 mm from the edge 17. A package 21 provided with such a tear-open tab opening is shown in FIG. 4. It can be seen here that an opening can be achieved via the tear-open tab 18 and by entraining the material of the packing surface 6 and tearing along the half-cut 11. as will be explained further below.

In the embodiment shown in Figures 5 to 8, one starts from a blank 1, in which two full cuts 22, 23 are made in a central region of the folded web seam formed, to which half-cuts 24, 25 are connected to form a separating strip 26, which is ring-shaped runs around the pack to be formed and is suitable, for example, for frozen packs.

This arrangement is explained in more detail in FIG. 6. Here, too, the full cuts 27, 28 extend over the first seam area 14 and the weakening line 29 over the second seam area 15 and the packing surface 2 contacting the filling material. In this case there is between the top of the second packing surface 6 and the facing underside of the packing surface 2 and an anti-adhesive agent 31 is applied to the folded edge of the web seam closure, the area of which is slightly larger than the area delimited by the full cuts 27, 28 and the edge 17.

The package 32 provided with such a tear-open tab opening is shown in FIG. 8. Such an opening is suitable, for example, for pourable, powdery goods.

A full cut is a cut that cuts through the entire composite structure, while a half cut only cuts through the outer plastic coating and the carrier material, while leaving the other layers intact.

First, when the tear-open tab opening is arranged in the region of a headstitch seam 33 of the pack, an ear of the pack formed by a folding triangle 34 is folded into the horizontal. Then the scribing tab 18 is gripped and folded up. The layer of the second packing field 6 underneath is then entrained in a precisely controlled manner by detonating the edge protector (FIG. 10) and then the opening is made by tearing along the weakening lines, as is shown in FIG. 11. As indicated in the figures mentioned, further weakening lines can be provided in order to achieve different openings, e.g. 12, a drinking opening according to FIG. 13 and a spoon opening according to FIGS. 14 and 15.

A line of weakness can also easily be formed by the sealing seam edge of the head web seam 33, as is indicated in FIG. 11. If you want to achieve a larger opening, the lines of weakness have to widen outwards from the full cuts in order to finally converge towards the front. It is important that the opening tip extends into the area of the ear-like folding triangles 34, since only in this way is it possible to pour out a filled product properly.

The full and half cuts are expediently carried out together in one work step with the printing, grooving and punching of the finished coated composite material by means of a foil cut of a pressure punch.

It goes without saying that the line of weakness 29 running parallel to the edge 17 can also be introduced further inwards and also in connection with the non-stick agent, so that the bond to be traversed is brought to half the strength when the web seam is not peeled, thus making tearing easier.
