Abstract

The process consists in moulding, under pressure, around a textile cord (2), coupling elements (1) such that each one of them has, on the side (1b) opposite the head (1a), parallel to the cord, a groove (6), then in weaving a support strip (3) along the cord, using the cord as an end warp thread and by placing the warp thread (4a) close to the cord in the groove of each coupling element. The warp thread close to the cord which is used is preferably a monofilament made from a thermoplastic material having a diameter greater than the other warp threads. <IMAGE>

Description

The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a zipper comprising two halves each formed by a support tape carrying at its inner edge a row of coupling elements obtained by pressure molding, according to which one molds the coupling elements around a textile cord, then weaving, using a ribbon weaving loom, along the cord provided with coupling elements, a support ribbon intended to form a half of the closure, using the cord as warp thread placed at the end of the warp ply.

This method makes it possible to obtain strong closures with coupling elements of very small dimensions. However, the closings obtained by this method have the drawback which consists in the tendency of the coupling elements to turn around the cord and to prevent thus a good functioning of the cursor, therefore of the closing.

To overcome this drawback, it has been proposed to mold the coupling elements around two cords arranged in parallel. However, the two cords being arranged in the plane of the closure, it is obvious that the length of the molded coupling elements around them is larger, which goes against the goal: to obtain resistant closings with coupling elements of minimum dimensions.

The aim of the present invention is to obviate the aforementioned drawbacks.

For this purpose the method according to the present invention is characterized in that the coupling elements are molded so that each of them has on the side opposite the head, parallel to the cord, a groove and that the is introduced into the latter, during the weaving of the support tape, the warp thread adjacent to the cord.

The invention also relates to a closure obtained by this process.

The characteristics and advantages of the method and of the closure according to the present invention will emerge more clearly from the description which follows and from the appended drawings, given by way of example, in which:
  • Figs. le and 2 show, respectively, a plan view and an end view of a portion of a cord, provided with two coupling elements by the known method.
  • Figs. 3 and 4 show, respectively, a plan view and an end view of a portion of one half of a closure obtained by the known method.
  • Fig.5 is similar to Fig.4 but with a coupling element turned at an angle on the cord.
  • Figs. 6 and 7 show, respectively, a plan view and an end view of a portion of a cord, provided with two coupling elements by the method according to the present invention.
  • Figs. 8 and 9 show, respectively, a plan view and an end view of a portion of a half of a closure obtained by the method according to the present invention.

As can be seen in FIGS. 1 to 5, which relate to the manufacture of closures by the known method, the coupling elements 1 are first molded around a cord 2 and then fixed to the edge of a ribbon. support 3, when weaving it, using the cord 2 as a chalne yarn placed at the end of a ply formed of warp threads 4 between which a weft thread 5 is passed. In FIG. 3 and 4, it can be seen that the warp thread 4a, adjacent to the cord 2, extends along the coupling elements l, so that there is nothing to prevent them from turning on the cord 2, as This is shown in Fig. 5.1. It is obvious that any coupling element, which is not in the plane of the support tape 3, constitutes an obstacle to the proper functioning. the cursor, and therefore the closure.

In Fig.7, which shows an end view of a portion of a cord 2 provided with coupling elements 1 by the method according to the present invention, it can be seen that each of these elements 1 has, on the side lb opposite the head 1a, a groove 6. In FIGS. 8 and 9, it can be seen that, during the weaving of the cord 2 in the support tape 3.1e warp thread 4a, adjacent to the cord 2, is placed, in accordance to the method according to the present invention, in the groove 6 of each of the coupling elements l. Thus, the support tape 3 is embedded in each of the elements l, so that these, due to the very tight structure of the ribbon, cannot turn on the cord 2, relative to the plane of the support tape 3.

In this case, the warp thread 4a is a monofilament made of thermoplastic material having a larger diameter than that of the other warp threads. Indeed, it is preferable that the warp thread on which the coupling elements are anchored is more robust and more rigid. It is obvious that the grooves 6 must be compatible with the diameter of this wire. The latter can also be formed by a textile cord or by a cord formed from thin monofilaments made of thermoplastic material.
