  • the present invention relates to a braking device intended to equip a ski for braking and stopping the ski when the latter has been separated from the boot, for example following the fall of the skier.
  • Such devices more commonly called brake or "stop”, are already known in particular from patents CH 613.122 and 613.626. These known devices comprise a spring element having two lateral branches which are in the inactive position parallel to the upper edges of the ski, but outside of these, while these branches protrude under the ski in the active position when the pressure exerted on a control member by the shoe has become zero.
  • the two major drawbacks of these brakes are, on the one hand, the fact that the lateral branches being in the inactive position outside the plane of the ski, they are troublesome according to the movements made by the skier and risk leading to snagging between the two skis or one ski and the boot held on the other ski.
  • the lateral branches having a tendency to tighten towards one another in the active position below the sole of the ski, the effectiveness of the attachment of the brake in the snow is reduced.
  • the object of this invention is to provide a ski braking device which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks.
  • the braking device according to the invention aiming to achieve this goal, is characterized in that it comprises two lateral branches connected elastically to one another so as to keep them spaced from one another, each branch resting under the effect of this elastic action against a slope making an angle with the upper surface of the ski and which has an element integral with the ski, and by the fact that a front portion connecting the two lateral branches serves as a lever and is intended to be actuated by the boot to control the movement of these branches between an active position in which they protrude under the sole of the ski and are directed towards the 'outside thereof, and an inactive position, in which they are retracted substantially parallel and above the side edges of the ski.
  • a first embodiment of the braking device comprises two lateral branches 1, the which are connected elastically to each other by a spring loop 2, which tends to maintain the branches spread apart.
