Description

The present invention relates to electrical contacts, as well as their applications in a connector.

The current technique has developed a certain number of cables having particular structures and among these, we know the so-called flat laminated cables or flat cables.

These cables, made up of a plurality of electrical conductors, are commonly used in all industries, and are generally connected to connectors in order to be able to connect or disconnect these cables.

Thus, it was necessary to develop special connectors making it possible to connect to these cables, of course, whatever their male, female or even hermaphrodite types.

In addition, modern techniques having international outlets, it is necessary that these connectors can be coupled with other connectors, even they are not always from the same manufacturer. To solve this problem, all the manufacturers met under the aegis of different organizations, and developed techniques allowing their connectors to mate with each other, this being understood in the context of standardization at any level. However, it is obvious that when a connector is normalized, that is to say for example the density of the electrical contacts, the distance between these same contacs, etc., it is not always possible to obtain the same standardization for conductors or electric cables comprising a plurality of conductors. Therefore, it often happens that the distance separating each conductor from a cable is different from the distance separating each electrical contact from a connector.

In addition, this distance is not always the same for each cable; it can be less, equal or greater than the distances separating the electrical contacts in a connector.

To solve this problem, we have imagined electrical contacts (and connectors comprising these contacts), consisting for example of a deformable part, one end of which constitutes the connector coupling terminal with its complementary connector, for example a male terminal with a female terminal, the other end constituting the connection means with the conductor, these two ends being mounted on a deformable rod which makes it possible to offset these two ends in a determined and variable manner so that the coupling ends of the connector are well opposite one another and that, on the other side, the means of connection with the electric cables are likewise opposite the conductors.

Thus, when it is desired to connect such a set of conductors of a cable to such a connector, the electrical contacs are made so that the offset between the two ends follows a determined progression so that all the conductors are connected to the contact connector coupling.

The structure of such an electrical contact described in particular above gives the desired result, but this electrical contact is relatively difficult to obtain mechanically since it is always difficult to obtain this offset by torsion and, moreover, it is obvious that these twists always have an angular limit which is relatively low and is not sufficient for all types of cables.

Also, the present invention aims to overcome these drawbacks and to achieve in particular an electrical contact making it possible to obtain the offset between these two ends in a simple embodiment, easy to implement, and which, moreover, can allow '' obtain all the possible law of variation defining the distance separating these two ends.

More specifically, the subject of the present invention is an electrical contact characterized in that it comprises two connectable parts, said first part comprising a pin for connection to an electrical conductor, along a first axis, a lug integral with said pin having a fixing direction along a second axis, said first and second axes being substantially parallel and distant from each other, by a determined value, said second part comprising, a fixing head capable of cooperating with said first part in one plurality of positions with respect to a third median axis over two distances on either side of said median axis, these two distances respectively having values substantially equal to said determined value, and a longitudinal coupling endpiece integral with said head attachment, this longitudinal coupling end being defined on a fourth axis, said fourth axis being substantially coincident with said three th median axis.

The present invention also relates to a connector comprising a plurality of electrical contacts defined above.

Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will appear during the following description, given with reference to the appended drawings, by way of illustration but in no way limitative, in which:
  • FIG. 1 represents, seen in perspective, an advantageous embodiment of an electrical contact according to the invention,
  • FIGS. 2, 3, 4 and 5 represent, in schematic form, the same embodiment of an electrical contact according to FIG. 1, making it possible to clearly show the advantages of such a contact, and,
  • - Figure 6, a perspective view, partially broken away, of a portion of a connector having contacts like that shown in Figure 1. Figure 1 shows, seen in perspective, an electrical contact which essentially comprises two parts 41 and 42, which can be connected to each other to form this contact.

More particularly, the part 41 comprises a connection pin 2 with an electrical conductor on an axis 3 which is defined in this embodiment by a self-cutting or self-stripping slot 4 allowing, by penetrating the conductor through the opening 5, to cut out its insulating sheath, and to position it in the bottom of this slot 4 defined along the axis 3, so that the conductive core is in contact with this pin 2 which, of course, is made of a conductive material of the 'electricity.

This part 41 further comprises a lug 6 integral with the spindle 2, this lug 6 is substantially constituted by an oblong part having an orientation axis 7 substantially parallel to the coupling axis of the spindle 2, but offset of it of a certain determined quantity which, for the understanding of the description, will have a value a.

Of course, this unitary piece 41 can be produced by cutting from relatively flat sheet metal, having a thickness sufficient to nevertheless exhibit a certain rigidity.

The contact also comprises, on the other hand, the part 42 which consists of a head 8 having at its end 9, a clamp 10 consisting of two edges 11 and 12 having an elasticity, for example obtained by prestressing, so that these edges 11 and 12 tend to approach each other. In addition, this clamp is integral with a rigid body 13 supporting the two elements of the clamp 10. The width of possibility of pinching of this clamp 10 is located in a direction perpendicular to a so-called median axis 14, so that the width of this clamp substantially perpendicular to this median axis 14 is equal to twice the determined value defined above, that is to say in fact equal to 2 a.

In addition, this part 42 comprises, integral with the rigid body 13, an end piece 15 called a coupling which has the function of being able to cooperate with another end piece in the manner of an electrical connection, that is to say that this tip can have a male function or a female function, in particular in any type of connector, and in particular even, connectors of the hermaphrodite type.

This tip generally being made of an oblong piece, is arranged so that its longitudinal axis is substantially coincident with the median axis 14 defined above.

The two parts 41 and 42 can be connected as illustrated in this FIG. 1, that is to say that the part 41, by means of its tab 6, is introduced into the clamp 10 so that the two elastic edges 11 and 12 bear firmly on the side wall of the tab 6, and that, due to the respective length of these two edges 11 and 12, maintain this part 41 in a relatively rigid position relative to the part 42.

However, the contact described with reference to FIG. 1 has advantages because, since the tab 6 has a relatively small width compared to the width of the clamp 10, and that the axis 14 is offset from the axis 3 , it presents a large number of positioning possibilities.

The possibilities of connection between these two parts 41 and 42 are innumerable and make it possible to obtain a connection between a conductor which is offset on either side of the coupling end piece by an amount between 0 and 2 α.

Indeed, by referring to Figures 2 to 5, which schematically represent the same contact as that which is illustrated in Figure 1, it clearly shows the advantages of such an element.

En effet, si dans une première possibilité on dispose la patte 6 à une extrémité de la pince 10 en décalant vers l'extérieur la broche 2, on constate que le conducteur qui sera associé à la broche 2 sera décalé de l'axe médian 14 de l'embout d'accouplement d'une quantité 2 a (dans le mode d'illustration représenté à la figure 2)Indeed, if in a first possibility we have the tab 6 at one end of the clamp 10 by shifting pin 2 outwards, we see that the conductor which will be associated with pin 2 will be offset from the median axis 14 of the coupling end piece with a quantity 2 a (in the mode of illustration represented in FIG. 2)

Similarly, referring to Figure 3, we realize a possibility of connecting a conductor with such a contact.

In this configuration, due to the fact that the tab 6 is disposed at the right end of the clamp 10, the pin 2 will also be offset with respect to the median axis 14, by an amount 2 a.

It is therefore observed that if a conductor has a more or less rigid sheath, it will be possible to connect it to a contact if it is offset by an amount equal to more or less 2 a.

Of course, it is also possible that the conductor arrives in position so that it is located opposite the median axis 14 and, therefore, by positioning the tab 6 on an extreme edge of the clamp 10, but in turning the spindle 2 in the space delimited by the two edges of this clamp 10, it can be seen that the offset between the axis 3 of the spindle 2 and the axis 14 of the tab 6 is substantially equal to a , the axis 3 of the spindle 2 will be substantially coincident with the median axis 14.

Between the two extreme positions, illustrated respectively in FIGS. 2 and 3, there can of course be a whole plurality of intermediate positions, such as in particular that which is illustrated in FIG. 5.

Such an electrical contact is particularly advantageous in the case of a connector with several contacts, that is to say the connectors of the "strip" type, comprising a plurality of coupling contacts arranged one next to the other in a base made of an insulating material. Figure 6 partially shows such a connector in a partially cut away view.

This connector therefore comprises a plurality of contacts 20 identical to that which has been described with reference to FIG. 1, these contacts 20, only one of which is shown in the figure for the purpose of simplification, are arranged in housings 21 produced in a base 22.

With such a connector, it is possible to connect a cable of the type which has been defined previously, that is to say a flat laminated cable or flat cable, which has a pitch between each conductor different from the standardized pitch for example between two contacts and defined in the figure by the space separating the two axes 23 and 24.

Knowing the pitch separating each conductor and the pitch of each contact in their respective housing 21, it will be possible to connect the two parts 41 and 42 by making the electrical contact so that each contact has the necessary offset between its coupling end piece 15 and its connection slot 4. Very schematically, it is normal for the contact of the middle of such a connector to have its slot 4 substantially in the axis of the connector 15 and the contacts arranged on either side of this contact in the middle position, comprise the part 41 placed in the clamp 10, so that, following the pitch of the flat conductor, the progression of the distance separating the slot 4 from the median axis 14 - can make it possible to connect this flat conductor to this contact.

En effet, si l'on suppose que le pas entre deux contacts a une valeur X et que la distance entre chaque conducteur du câble a une valeur Y différente de X, d'une valeur bien entendu relativement faible, les pièces 41 seront disposées dans la pince 10 de la pièce 42 de façon que pour chaque contact disposé l'un à côté de l'autre la distance séparant les deux fentes de raccordement 4 de ces contacts soit distante de Y.Indeed, if it is assumed that the pitch between two contacts has a value X and that the distance between each conductor of the cable has a value Y different from X, of course a relatively small value, the parts 41 will be arranged in the clamp 10 of the part 42 so that for each contact disposed one beside the other the distance separating the two connection slots 4 from these contacts is distant from Y.

Figure imgb0001
Of course, there will be limits which are defined so that if we consider Y, 2a and X, there will be a possibility of connection in number of conductors equal to 2
Figure imgb0001

cette quantité double étant le fait d'un même nombre de possibilités de raccordement de conducteurs de part et d'autre du conducteur central.this double quantity being the result of the same number of possibilities for connecting conductors on either side of the central conductor.

Sur la figure l'embase 22 a été représentée de façon à être réalisée dans un matériau isolant constitué de deux pièces 25 et 26 s'emboîtant l'une dans l'autre de façon à maintenirIn the figure, the base 22 has been shown so as to be made of an insulating material consisting of two parts 25 and 26 which fit into one another so as to maintain

positionnées, d'une part la pièce 42 par son corps (tête de fixation) 8 dans les logements 21, et d'autre part, la pièce 41 relativement. plate dans des fentes 27 réalisées à cet effet sensiblement d'une même épaisseur de cette pièce 41 de façon à ce que cette pièce 41 soit maintenuepositioned, on the one hand the part 42 by its body (fixing head) 8 in the housings 21, and on the other hand, the part 41 relatively. flat in slots 27 made for this purpose of substantially the same thickness of this part 41 so that this part 41 is maintained

Il entraîne de ce fait, d'une part l'introduction de chaque conducteur dans les fentes 4 respectives des contacts avec une mise en conduction par autodénudage, et, d'autre part, un maintien mécanique de chaque conducteur 28 qui est pincé entre la face 32 de la pièce 25, et la face 33 du corps 30.substantially rigidly, but that, nevertheless, at least part of the end of this pin 2, that is to say that containing the slot 4, emerges from the slots 27 as shown in the figure, the conductors 28 of the cable 29 , will be positioned so that they are respectively each facing the opening 5 of each contact for which each conductor is intended, and once all of these conductors are placed opposite their respective contacts, a cover 30 also comprising slots 31 substantially identical to the slots 27 and corresponding in position thereto, is positioned on all of these conductors. By pressing this cover 30, it tends to bring it closer to the part 25. It therefore causes, on the one hand, the introduction of each conductor into the respective slots 4 of the contacts with conduction by self-stripping, and, on the other hand, a mechanical holding of each conductor 28 which is pinched between the face 32 of the part 25, and the face 33 of the body 30.

The conductors may also be held laterally between these two faces by bosses 34 made for example on the body 30 as shown in the figure.

Of course, these bosses could also be produced on the face 32 and, similarly, there could also be bosses on the two faces 32,33.
