Definitions
- the invention relates to a housing for an electrical connector according to the preamble of claim 1.
- a housing of the type mentioned has already become known (DE-OS 20 05 783).
- This known housing has the advantage that the elastically flexible projection snaps into the constriction on the plug contact even after the plug-in contact has been inserted loosely into the through-hole of the housing and holds it securely in its predetermined position. The locking then only needs to be ensured that the plug-in contact is not only secured in an elastically yielding manner, but rigidly in a form-fitting manner. This is done by eliminating the radial flexibility of the elastically engaging projection. Up to this final locking, the spring force inherent in the projection is sufficient to hold the plug contacts in the correct position in the through hole; this is during the further processing of the plug connection, e.g. testing for electrical continuity or reverse polarity.
- the known housing either has a locking bolt which can be inserted transversely to the plugging direction or a locking member which can be inserted and locked axially from the plug end into the housing.
- the proposed disk or plate-shaped design of the locking member can, however, only be used to a limited extent for plug devices whose through openings for the plug contacts lie next to one another in one or two rows. Otherwise, several such locking members are required. Therefore, it has also been desired to provide a casing g Verrie the e-lung any of juxtaposed plug-in contacts allowing (DE-GM 77 39 743).
- locking lugs have been proposed which are formed on a separate connection plate which extends over the end face of the housing. This arrangement enables locking of plug contacts, which can be arranged at any point on the cross-sectional area of the housing. However, this arrangement may lead to an undesirable extension of the connector housing; the housing also consists of at least two parts that have to be fitted together.
- the invention has for its object to provide a connector housing that is compact and versatile, i.e. in particular that it is as short as possible, is made in one piece and gives the designer many options for adapting to the individual case.
- the housing 1 comprises six through openings 2 to 7 for receiving plug contacts 8, which are designed as contact sockets.
- the through openings 2 to 7 are formed in the region of the plug contacts 8 in part by radially elastically flexible sections 9 to 14 of the housing 1.
- Sections 9 to 14 have projections 15 which engage behind the inserted plug contacts 8 in an elastically locking manner (FIG. 3).
- the flexibility of the sections 9 to 14 of the housing 1 can be blocked by inserted locking members 16 to 19.
- the locking members 16 to 19 are angular and integrally formed with the housing 1 and connected to the latter via film joints 20 to 23.
- the first legs 24 to 27 are connected to the housing 1 via the film joints 20 to 23, while the second legs 28 to 31 protrude into the housing 1 through slots 32 in order to radially block the sections 9 to 14 there (FIG. 3). .
- the locking members 16 to 19 serve with their legs 28 and 31 for locking one plug contact each.
- the locking members 17 and 18 are each formed two legs 29 and 29 'or 30 and 30'. Each of the legs 29, 29 ', 30, 30' serves to lock a plug contact (not shown).
- a plug contact 8 has been inserted into the through opening 2 (FIG. 3) from behind.
- the plug contact 8 is connected to an electrical line (not shown), e.g. by crimping.
- the plug contact 8 designed here as a round socket slides during insertion over a slope 33 of the projection 15 until the projection 15 can spring back radially behind the shoulder 34 of the plug contact 8 and pre-locks the plug contact 8, i.e. provisionally.
- a paragraph 2a of the through opening 2 here forms the front stop for the plug contact 8.
- the plug connection is checked electrically from reverse polarity, continuity, etc. If an error is found here, the plug contact can easily be removed again from the through opening 2 of the housing 1 and the error can be remedied.
- the locking members 16 to 19 are brought into their end position: the second leg 28 of the locking member 16 is pushed into the slot 32 of the housing 1 by a folding movement - see arrow K in FIG. 2, so that it is in the housing 1 comes to lie between a housing section 1 a and the elastic section 9, specifically as close as possible to the projection 15 (FIGS. 2 to 4).
- This end position of the locking member 16 is shown in dash-dot lines in FIGS. 2 and 4.
- the leg 28 can be held in the housing 1 by choosing an appropriate width of the slot 32.
- a barb 35 is formed on the leg 28. The barb 5 latches behind the slot 32 and also holds the leg 28 in a form-fitting manner in the housing 1 after the end locking (FIG. 4).
- the plug contact 8 is then seated so firmly in the through opening 2 of the housing 1 that it can only be inadvertently removed again by applying very high pull-out forces.
- the training described is always for one correct fit of the plug contact 8 in the through opening 2: If the plug contact 8 is not properly locked, e.g. because it was not inserted far enough or with the shoulder 34 towards the projection 15, it is not possible to insert the leg 28 into the Insert housing 1 and lock it into place. In this case, the laterally bent elastic section 9 with the projection 15 blocks the space provided for the leg 28 under the slot 32, see FIG. 3. The protrusion of the leg 28 shows that the plug contact 8 is not correctly inserted , and the error can be rectified.
- plug contacts In addition to the plug contacts shown in the exemplary embodiment, other plug contacts, e.g. which are used according to the prior art mentioned at the outset.
- the plug contacts only require a shoulder, an incision or the like, behind or into which the elastic, lockable section of the housing can engage.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a housing for an electrical connector according to the preamble of
For plug contacts, such as plugs or sockets, which have a medium constriction, a housing of the type mentioned has already become known (DE-OS 20 05 783). This known housing has the advantage that the elastically flexible projection snaps into the constriction on the plug contact even after the plug-in contact has been inserted loosely into the through-hole of the housing and holds it securely in its predetermined position.
The known housing either has a locking bolt which can be inserted transversely to the plugging direction or a locking member which can be inserted and locked axially from the plug end into the housing. The proposed disk or plate-shaped design of the locking member can, however, only be used to a limited extent for plug devices whose through openings for the plug contacts lie next to one another in one or two rows. Otherwise, several such locking members are required. Therefore, it has also been desired to provide a casing g Verrie the e-lung any of juxtaposed plug-in contacts allowing (DE-GM 77 39 743). For this purpose, locking lugs have been proposed which are formed on a separate connection plate which extends over the end face of the housing. This arrangement enables locking of plug contacts, which can be arranged at any point on the cross-sectional area of the housing. However, this arrangement may lead to an undesirable extension of the connector housing; the housing also consists of at least two parts that have to be fitted together.
In contrast, the invention has for its object to provide a connector housing that is compact and versatile, i.e. in particular that it is as short as possible, is made in one piece and gives the designer many options for adapting to the individual case.
This object is achieved according to the invention by the characterizing features of

- Fig. 1 shows the front view of a housing without contacts, with opened locking members;
- FIG. 2 shows a side view of the housing in FIG. 1, with a partial section along the line II-II in FIG. 1, and with an inserted contact socket;
- Fig. 3 shows a partial section through the housing with an inserted and locked contact socket according to the line III-III in Fig. 1;
- FIG. 4 shows a partial view of the housing according to arrow S in FIG. 2.
The
How the locking takes place is explained in more detail by means of the
By means of frictional engagement, the
The
Fig. 3. The training described is always for one correct fit of the
In addition to the plug contacts shown in the exemplary embodiment, other plug contacts, e.g. which are used according to the prior art mentioned at the outset. The plug contacts only require a shoulder, an incision or the like, behind or into which the elastic, lockable section of the housing can engage.
