Description

The invention relates to an adapter for the electrical connection of the connection pins of an electrical component with the adapter connection pins of a base body, this base body having a carrier plate for receiving the component and a connection strip for receiving the adapter connection pins, and the connecting elements between the connection pins of the component and the adapter connection pins are flexible are trained.

Electrical components, for example relays, often have a cuboid housing with different side lengths. Depending on the construction, the normal installation of such a component on a printed circuit board results in a large base with a small height or a large height with a small base. In order to meet the different requirements in terms of overall height and base area, the installation position of such components is changed using angled adapters or angular sockets. However, such adapters have so far been relatively expensive to manufacture and assemble because, in general, the connecting pins of the component are individually or the like, each by welding. must be connected to a connecting element in order to establish the electrical coupling to the connecting pins of the adapter.

A relay assembly and wiring system is also known in which the relay base lies above the adapter base and the respective connection pins are connected via a flexible printed circuit board (DE-OS 2 537 925). In this case, the connection pins of the adapter are arranged in an extension or at least parallel to the connection pins of the component; this increases the installation height of the component, that is, for example, an already relatively high relay housing, by the adapter. Such an arrangement is only possible for a certain device structure, in which the height does not matter.

In contrast, it is an object of the invention to provide a so-called angle adapter, with which the installation position of the component can be changed, for example to significantly reduce the installation height. This adapter should be simple and cheap to manufacture; in particular, the necessary electrical connections should be able to be made together in one work step and mechanized if possible.

According to the invention, this object is achieved in an adapter of the type mentioned at the outset by combining the following features:
  • 1. The connecting elements are designed as conductor tracks of a flexible printed circuit board, which on their. Endings each have openings for the adapter pins or for the pins of the component.
  • 2. The terminal block and the support plate are integrally formed and arranged in one plane.
  • 3. The connection strip is flexibly connected to the carrier plate via a film hinge and has in its extension a plurality of cover strips which are each connected via film hinges and which can be folded via the connection strip and which are fixed by means of a one-piece flexibly molded fastening element relative to a holding arm formed on the carrier plate.

The angle adapter according to the invention thus consists of a base body and a flexible printed circuit board. This results in simple manufacture and assembly, the connections of the connection pins to the printed circuit board being able to be produced largely automatically, for example in a solder bath. By connecting the terminal block and the carrier plate via a film hinge, the connection levels of the component on the one hand and the adapter on the other hand can first be brought into a common plane, so that all electrical connections can be made in a single operation, for example in a soldering bath. After the connections have been soldered, the terminal strip can then assume its final position, the flexibly molded cover strips in connection with the fastening element and with the holding arm of the carrier plate ensuring mechanical securing and stabilization of the new structural unit formed by the component and the adapter. The cover strips folded over the terminal block additionally protect the electrical connections against contact.

For fastening between the holding arm and one of the cover strips, the latter can, for example, have an opening with which it can be pushed onto a pin of the holding arm according to the push-button principle. Additional holding elements, for example in the form of lateral tabs, can be provided on the carrier plate of the adapter, which give the attached component an additional hold. These side tabs are provided, for example, with locking teeth which snap into place on the top edge or in the side recesses of the component protection cap.

In an expedient embodiment, the flexible printed circuit board is double-laminated in order to be able to adapt a large number of component connections. The conductor tracks used for the electrical connection then run partly on one side and partly on the other side of the circuit board. The adapter connection pins can be firmly anchored in the base body, for example by injection. However, it is also possible to first connect them to the flexible printed circuit board and then insert them into openings in the base body.

  • Fig. 3 eine Detailansicht 111 in Fig. 2,
Further details of the invention will be described below using exemplary embodiments with reference to the drawing. It shows
  • 1 shows an electrical component with an angle adapter according to the invention in side view,
  • 2 shows the adapter base body from FIG. 1 in a perspective view,
  • 3 shows a detailed view 111 in FIG. 2,
  • 4 shows a slightly modified embodiment of the adapter from FIG. 1.

Zu diesem Zweck besitzt der Haltearm 19 einen Zapfen 20, auf welchen die Abdeckleiste 16 mittels eines Durchbruches 21 nach dem Druckknopfprinzip aufgesteckt werden kann.1 shows an electrical component 1, for example a relay, with connection pins 2 emerging on the narrow side, which is to be placed flat on a printed circuit board. An adapter base body 10 is provided for this purpose; this has a support plate 11, a connection strip 12 arranged after the support plate with injected adapter connection pins 13 and three cover strips 14, 15 and 16. All these parts of the base body are each connected to one another via film hinges 25; the entire base body 10 is thus injection molded in one piece from plastic. The carrier plate 11 has lateral tabs 17, which encompass the component 1 and hold them with snap-in lugs 18. In addition, a holding arm 19 is provided which is connected to the outermost cover strip 16 during assembly. For this purpose, the holding arm 19 has a pin 20, on which the cover strip 16 can be attached by means of an opening 21 according to the push button principle.

The assembly can be seen with reference to FIG. 1. First, the component 1 is placed on the carrier plate 11 and the retaining strip 12 with the cover strips 14, 15 and 16 is aligned in one plane with the terminal strip of the component (indicated in the drawing by the parts shown in broken lines). A flexible printed circuit board 22, which is preferably double-clad, is then placed flat on the adapter base body and plugged onto the connection pins 2 of the component 1 and onto the adapter connection pins 13.

All connection points are on one level, so that both the component connections and the adapter connections can be soldered in one step by swelling. Then the adapter is folded in the direction of arrow 23, so that the connection strip 12 reaches the installation level, while the cover strips 14, 15 and 16 close off the connection space at the top. The cover strip 16 is placed on the holding arm 19. 3 shows a detailed view of the connection point between the pin 20 and the opening 21. This opening has deformable ribs 23, with which the cover strip 16 is non-positively attached to the pin 20.

The adapter base body is constructed essentially the same as in FIG. 2, only the adapter connection pins 13 are not injected into the connection strip 12 in this case. Rather, they are first connected to a flexible printed circuit board 24. During assembly, the adapter base body with its integrally formed connection or cover strips 12, 14, 15 and 16 is opened in one direction, while the flexible printed circuit board 24 is arranged in the other direction. The adapter connection pins 13, which are initially provisionally fastened (for example by an additional paper web) in the flexible printed circuit board 24, are swelled together with the connection pins 2 of the component 1 in one plane. Then the flexible printed circuit board 24 and the connection or cover strips 12, 14, 15 and 16 of the adapter base body 10 are folded over one another, the adapter connection pins 13 being inserted into bores in the connection strip 12. There they can be secured by swirling, for example. Otherwise, the cover strips are attached in the same way as in FIG. 1.
