Задачей изобретения является улучшение демпфирующих свойств амортизатора, при этом амортизатор транспортного средства содержит гильзу, поршневую крышку, штоковую крышку, шток, пopшень с уплотнением и гильза выполнена таким образом, что в области или областях, прилегающих к крышкам амортизатора, внутренняя полость гильзы по длине области гильзы содержит по крайней мере два смежных участка, и на каждом из участков внутренний диаметр гильзы по длине участка (в направлении от поршневой крышки к штоковой крышке) уменьшается до величины минимального внутреннего диаметра гильзы на этом участке, а затем увеличивается до величины максимального внутреннего диаметра гильзы на этом участке.
