Abstract

Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate-aldolase (FDA) is an enzyme that reversibly catalyzes the conversion of triosophosphate to fructose-1,6-bisphosphate. In leaves, this enzyme is located in chloroplasts (starch synthesis) and in the cytosol (sucrose biosynthesis). Transgenic plants that express E. coli fda in chloroplasts are created to increase the yield of plants by increasing the ability of the leaves to starch biosynthesis in particular, and to produce sucrose as a whole. Leaves of plants expressing the fda transgene show a significantly higher starch accumulation compared to control plants expressing the zero vector, especially at the beginning of the photoperiod, but contain less sucrose in the leaves. Transgenic plants also have a significantly greater root mass. In addition, transgenic potatoes expressing fda show an increased uniform distribution of solids. The international application was published along with an international search report.
