Abstract
The invention relates to a method for crushing and an apparatus for use in performing the method. The crushing is done by causing the crushing elements 6 belonging to the rotor 2, which are mounted so that they can rotate about their shafts 7 and are moveable to a restricted degree in the radial direction of the rotor 2, to move past a curved counter-surface 3 at the rotation of the rotor 2, in such a way that the material to be processed is crushed when it lands between the rotating crushing elements, acted on by the centrifugal force, and the counter-surface 3. The most essential characteristic according to the invention is that the crushing is done in a crushing chamber 1 defined by an essentially cylindrical or conical counter-surface 3 by feeding the material through an upper inlet end 11 into the crushing chamber 1, by crushing the material with a rotor 2 fitted in a crushing chamber 1, the material being moved downward in the crushing chamber 1 by the force of gravity or by the gravitational and centrifugal force, and by removing the crushed material at the bottom outlet end 12 of the crushing chamber 1. The particle size of the crushed material is regulated by adjusting the distance between the counter-surface 3 and the crushing elements 6, for example by constructing the counter- surface 3 from separate disc elements, which can be bent towards the crushing elements 6. <IMAGE>
