The invention relates to a container with an associated lid of the kind specified in the preamble of claim 1. Such containers with lids are known in many different designs and for many different applications. A frequent use is as resealable sales packaging.

In the manufacture of containers with associated lids, account must be taken both of what goods the container is to be used as packaging for, what material the lid and container are to be made of, and how to sell the packaged product, that is, in the case of goods, sold directly to the consumer, e.g. paint or whether it is a technical Indus tripod, e.g. chemical sold for further processing. In addition, of course, consideration must be given to the price, appearance, durability, etc. of the packaging. Therefore, a very large number of different containers of the bucket and cup type are known, especially made of plastic or metal.

25 US Patent No. 4,619,373 discloses a container with a ring insert adapted to engage one or two circumferential beads inside the container. The container wall must be heated so much that it is soft and elastic in order for the ring insert to be inserted, or mounting immediately after the manufacturing process, where the material temperature is still high. The reason for this is partly that the circular beads have a square cross-sectional profile and partly the massive design of the ring insert. To ensure a reasonable tightness between the ring insert and the container wall, the ring insert is provided with a circumferential collar located on top of the container rim.

The object of the present invention is to provide a cylindrical container with a lid designed in such a way that it can be made of plastic by a fairly simple casting process, e.g. injection molding; and 5, wherein the parts are designed so that they can be assembled at any time, so that a very large degree of sealing is obtained between the ring insert and the container without the use of glue, welding, etc. In addition, the outer surface of the container (the cylindrical part) is desired to be completely smooth and even without reducing the strength, stiffness and sealing ratio of the known containers with a lid.

This is accomplished by designing the container with associated covers according to the invention as further specified in the characterizing part of claim 1.

The inserted ring insert, also made of plastic by injection molding, because of its special design has a very large stiffening effect at the container opening, so that the container can be made quite thin-walled and yet have a high stiffness. In addition, the sloping outer surface of the ring insert provides the container with good pouring properties so that liquid easily flows back into the container 25 when ceasing to pour from the container. As the upper edge of the container does not form part of the closure itself, one is free to set the edge of the rim, so that, for example, can design it with a sharp incline, reducing or eliminating the tendency of the contents to run down the outside. Further, the design of the ring insert according to claim 1 allows for a snap action between the ring insert and the container wall beads, and the beads may be spaced less than the distance between the ring portions so that they are in tension between the beads. that the container can be injection molded in a conventional manner on a mandrel, provided that the plastic material used is sufficiently resilient for the container to be pulled off the mandrel. In practice, this has proved to be no problem.

The upper oblique surface of the ring insert also provides room for insertion of an opening tool so that the lid is easily flipped off and is also a great help in applying the lid because it controls the lid in place in the container.

The inclined surface facing the container bottom on the ring insert ensures smooth transition to the wall and the lower bead, and decreases tendencies for overflowing of liquid contents, e.g. in connection with filling the container.

By forming a container with a lid according to the invention 20 as defined in the characterizing part of claim 2, a smooth and smooth transition is obtained between the ring insert and the inner wall of the container, so that the contents of the container are difficult to get stuck precisely in the transitions. At the same time, the insertion of the ring insert is facilitated, as the beads can be shaped so that the ring insert has to be pressed only past the upper, circumferential bead, after which it sits firmly in tension between the two beads.

By designing a container with a lid according to the invention 30 as defined in the characterizing part of claim 3, it is possible to double seal between the lid and the ring insert, which is important if the container is to be used for products which are to be sealed airtight, e.g. paints, hazardous liquids and the like.

By forming the lid according to the invention as set forth in the characterizing part of claim 4, it is possible to obtain

that the top of the lid can be completely smooth and flat because all the closures are located on one side of the lid and at a distance from the lid edge. The skirt can be designed to be pre-tensioned in the ring insert, which provides a good seal, and yet the lid can be easily removed by lifting with the appropriate tools, after which the lid easily detaches.

If the lid according to the invention is designed as stated in the characterizing part of claim 105, two circumferential sealing areas are provided and the lid can still easily be snapped on. The closure occurs by snap the sealing areas of the lid into engagement with the sealing areas of the ring insert, and this is done in such a way as to ensure that the lid is closed properly.

By forming a container with a lid according to the invention as defined in the characterizing part of claim 6, it is achieved that the edge of the lid rests on, or near the edge of the container. This ensures that any pressure on the lid from e.g. containers stacked on top of each other will be absorbed by the container wall so that the sealing function is not affected. Furthermore, the lid and container can be arranged so that the surface of the lid lies completely flat with the upper edge of the container.

In that the lid according to the invention is designed as claimed in the characterizing part of claim 7 *, a "pilferproof" can be placed in the lid, so that there is always a certainty as to whether the lid has been removed since the container has been filled with its contents. In addition, there is a visible indication of where an opening tool should be inserted to remove the lid. The lid can of course be removed by inserting a sharp or pointed tool between the lid and the rim of the container, but not without clear marks being deposited therein.

Finally, if the container with a lid according to the invention is formed as claimed in the characterizing part of claim 8, it is possible before, after filling the container and applying the lid, to further weld or glue a membrane which ensures absolute liquid and vapor-tight containment of the contents. which membrane additionally provides further guarantee that the packaging is unbroken.

The container wall 4 is provided in its upper third with at least one, but preferably two inner, circular beads 5 and 6. The beads have a limited height over the inner side of the wall, and since they are placed in the upper third of the wall, the container can be easily pulled of the casting mandrel, only the casting material is slightly elastic. The beads 5 and 6 have oblique side edges 8 and 9 facing the container bottom and forming an angle of approx. 30 ° to 60 ° relative to the wall 4, which facilitates the extraction of the mandrel or core after casting.

The lid is opened by lifting the edge of the lid with a suitable tool, e.g. a screwdriver. For this, a reduced thickness area 21 can be formed which can be pierced and the lid opened.
