Abstract

The invention relates to a method for improving the efficiency of an existing windmill sail and reducing its noise emission during operation and a member for use in implementing the method. This is achieved by arranging a cap 3 on at least the radially outermost end 2 of the windmill sail 1, in which way the aerodynamic shape of the latter is changed to correspond to the most recent results of windmill research without having to scrap the existing windmill sail 1. It is advantageous in particular to equip that end of the cap 3 which is radially outermost in the use position with a drop-shaped or torpedo-shaped part 9, the longitudinal direction extends essentially in the plane of rotation of the sail, this part 9 serving to relieve edge eddies at the sail tip. The cap 3, especially when provided with a drop-shaped or torpedo-shaped part 9, makes it possible to achieve a considerable improvement in the efficiency of the windmill and a not inconsiderable reduction in the noise emission of the sail. <IMAGE>
