Abstract
The appts. (9) for read-out of the meter state from a specific measurement unit (1) is attached to the unit with a display (11). A code is transmitted to a memory in the reading appts. (9). If at a later time, the reading appts. is further connected to the same measurement unit the code remains in the memory, and the corresp. memory of the appts. receives the new meter state. On a specific day all the meter states of all available measurement units (1) are fed with the corresp. code. The fed-out data are sent complete to a calculating point, where the data are read-out. A data carrier is removed from the appts. (9) and sent, or the fed-out data are transmitted to the calculating point via a corresp. modem and a telephone line. At the calculating point, the incoming data are checked for accuracy, i.e. as to whether all measurement units installed for a specific user have the corresp. code and a meter state. If this is not the case, the reading is repeated.
