The present invention relates to an agent for conditioning human hair with improved properties.

Hair conditioning agents have been known and commercially available for a long time. They are usually applied to the hair as a final treatment after a hair treatment, for example after perming, coloring and/or washing the hair.

Although these products have proven themselves in many uses, there is still a need for their improvement, especially in terms of ease of application in combination with high hair volume and a soft shine.

It has now been found that a conditioning agent with these properties can be obtained if it contains, in an aqueous base, a combination of

1. about 0.25 to about 5% by weight of at least one quaternary ammonium compound of the general formula

Carbon atoms, R , R and R , which may be the same or different, are optionally hydroxy-substituted C ₁ -C 6 -alkyl radicals, and X is an anion;

2. about 0.5 to about 5.0% by weight of at least one alkyl polyglucoside of the general formula

RO-(R ¹ O) _n Z _x ,

wherein R is an alkyl radical having 8 to 18 carbon atoms, R is an ethylene or propylene group, Z is a saccharide radical having 5 to 6 carbon atoms, η is a number from 0 to 10, and x is a number between 1 and 2.5, and, in addition,

3. contains about 0.05 to about 5% by weight, calculated on the total composition, of a non-volatile silicone.
When using these compositions, in particular the preferred embodiments described in more detail below, a hair conditioning agent is contained which, due to its foaming properties, significantly improves the application and distribution on the hair, which leads to an increased absorption of the hair conditioning active ingredients on the hair and is expressed in an improved hair volume, ie fullness, with a soft shine.

The first component of the combination according to the invention, the quaternary ammonium compound, has, which is essential for the effect according to the invention, only one long-chain alkyl group, preferably one with 10 to 22 carbon atoms.

A preferred representative of this group is stearyltrimethylammonium chloride, bromide or methosulfate; other compounds that can be used are, for example, stearyldimethylhydroxypropylairanonium halides, cetyltrimethylammonium chloride, bromide or methosulfate, lauryltrimethylammonium chloride and bromide and lauryldimethylammonium hydroxypropyl or hydroxyethyl salts or also cocoyltrimethylammonium halides.

The preferred proportion of these quaternary ammonium compounds, which have long been known as conditioning agents, in the overall composition is about 0.5 to 2.5% by weight.
The second essential component of the combination according to the invention is a C ₀ -C _{10 alkyl} polyglucoside with a degree of condensation between 1 and 2.5, preferably 1.1 to 2.0, in particular 1.25 and 1.50.

These alkylpolyglucosides are now known from numerous literature sources, for example a representative publication is by D. Balzer, Tenside, Vol. 28 (1991), pp. 419 to 427, to which explicit reference is made here.
The proportion of these alkyl glucosides is about 0.5 to about 5.0 wt.% of the total composition, preferably between 1 and 3 wt.%.

The third essential component of the inventive combination is a non-volatile silicone.

Non-volatile silicones for use in hair conditioning agents are generally known; in addition to the products known under the trivial names dimethicone (e.g. "Dow Corning 200 and 225 Fluid") and cyclomethicone, silicone polymers with amino-functional groups, which are known under the trivial name "amodimethicone", are also particularly suitable for this purpose.

Other silicones that can be used in the context of the present invention are "Dimethicone Copolyol" (eg "Dow Corning 190 and 193 Polyether") as well as ethers and esters thereof, for example Dimethicone Copolyol Acetate, (eg "Silicone Fluid VP")
Dimethicone Copolyol Methyl Ether (e.g. "KF 351A" from Shin Etsu) and Dimethicone Copolyol Butyl Ether (e.g. "KF 352A" from Shin Etsu) as well as "Dimethiconol" (e.g. "Silicone Fluid F-212" from Wacker) and "Dimethicone/Sodium PG-Propyldimethicone Thiosulfate Copolymer" (e.g. "Abil S 201").
A particularly preferred non-volatile silicone used in the present invention is the product known under the name Laurylmethicone Copolyol according to the general formula

where R is a C _ft -C,p-alkyl radical and R' is a poly-

ether residue with 1 to 60 ethylene and/or propylene oxide units, and &khgr; and y are a number from 1 to 500, preferably for &khgr; = 60 to 245 and for y = 1 to 25.

One such product is called "Dow Corning Q2-5200"
commercially available, and is preferably used in an amount of about 0.2 to about 4, in particular 0.25 to 2.5 wt.%, calculated on the total composition of the hair conditioning agent.

According to a further preferred embodiment of the invention, the hair conditioning agent contains as non-volatile silicone about 0.25 to about 2.5% by weight, calculated on the total composition, of a mixture of laurylmethicone copolyol, as defined above, and an amino-functional polysiloxane, "amodimethicone" {e.g. "Dow Corning 929"), in particular according to the formula

wherein R is an amino-C ₂ -C ₄ alkyl or amino-C^C.-alkylamino-C^-C^-alkyl group, and x and y are a number from 1 to 500, preferably in a ratio between about 1:3 and 3:1. Preferably, in this amino-functional polysiloxane, the ratio of x:y is about 25:1 to about 160:1; the molecular weight is between about 5,000 and about 30,000.

Detergent compositions, in particular shampoos, containing alkyl polyglucosides and silicone derivatives are already known from EP-A 398 177.

suitable.

The compositions according to the invention can of course contain other active ingredients and auxiliary substances that are usual in hair conditioning agents. In particular, higher fatty alcohols such as cetylstearyl alcohol, whose conditioning effect has long been known, as well as other similar fatty and oily substances can be used as such.

If an additional setting effect is desired in addition to the conditioning effect, film formers can also be added, as well as agents for adjusting the viscosity such as cellulose derivatives, for example hydroxyethylcellulose, hydroxypropylcellulose and/or hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, synthetic polymers, agents for adjusting the pH, preservatives, etc.

In order to avoid a repetition of these substances, which are common and known in conditioning agents, reference is made to the relevant manuals, for example the monograph by K. Schrader, Fundamentals and Recipes of Cosmetics (2nd edition, Hüthig Buchverlag), pp. 676 to 771, especially pp. 722 to 737.

The hair conditioning compositions according to the invention are generally in the form of aqueous dispersions or emulsions; if desired, however, they can also be formulated as foam aerosols.

This composition was tested on 10 people, whereby, in the well-known half-side test, 1 half of the hair was treated with the composition according to the invention and the other half with a conventional, commercially available conditioning agent.

The halves treated with the product according to the invention showed an improved fullness (volume) and a silkier shine compared to the comparison product in all 10 test subjects; the product according to the invention was also much easier to apply due to its uniform, fine-pored foam.

This composition can also be formulated as an aerosol foam conditioner if desired:

9 3 parts by weight are filled into an aerosol can with 7 parts by weight of a commercially available propane/butane propellant mixture.

When applied to human hair, the product creates a fine-pored foam that gives the hair fullness and a soft shine.
