The innovation relates to the improvement
of cloths on billiard tables.

Working people are getting more and more free time. Young people in particular spend a significant amount of their time playing billiards.

You can choose between carom, pool and snooker billiards in three different formats.

1. Sports club; 2. Commercial billiards hall; 3. Gaming halls. The number of members in the German Billiards Association (DBB) has been rising steadily for years, as has the number of commercial billiards halls.
Billiards is very trendy.

I would like to explain the existing situation using carom billiards in sports clubs as an example.

The DBB, in cooperation with the Players' Council, determines the approved billiard cloths. A marketing organization of the DBB concludes contracts with the manufacturers and receives annual payments in return.

As the highest sports body, the DBB determines that the B. cloths must be replaced annually before the game season, even if there is no mechanical damage (holes).

This measure is justified firstly by sporting and secondly by aesthetic reasons.

1. Sporting reasons:
Shortening the tee-off rail.
Decrease in spin effect.
Reducing the speed of the balls.

2. Aesthetic reasons:

Hundreds of white pressure marks on the B. cloth. The "white groove" at the base of the boards.

This impairment is caused by the infinitely frequent braking and acceleration of the balls on the edges of the rubber bands over the course of a year.

Sports clubs have to replace their B. cloths every year, commercial halls approximately every 6 months due to longer operating hours, and gaming halls approximately every 4-6 months due to mechanical damage.

Prices for reupholstering carom tables:
Small table 1.05 x 2.10 DM 450,-;
large table 1.42 x 2.84 DM 650,-.

If one realistically assumes that a B. club has 2 small and 2 large B. tables, the annual cost for the B. cloth is DM 2,200 + VAT.

Prices for pool:

Small table DM 500,-; large table DM 700,- + VAT.

Prices for snooker: DM 1,400 + VAT.

Replacing the B. cloths is a significant cost factor.

The invention is based on the task of increasing the durability of the billiard cloth and at the same time significantly improving its usability for sporting purposes.

The innovations of the billiard cloth.

1. The B. cloth is colourfast, lightfast and abrasion-resistant.

2. The starchy finish is replaced by the following materials:

Fixati &ngr;, car paint protection, leather and textile impregnation agents etc.

3. The density of the fabric is the technically feasible maximum.

4. Full ply yarn.

In contrast to weaving yarn, two-ply yarn is a multi-twisted thread that consists of several individual threads.

1. Colourfast

The color had previously been worn away by normal daylight. In combination with the chalk that had been accidentally applied, the blue-green color gradually turned into a kind of steel gray. Direct sunlight on part of the B. cloth led to clear color differences within a very short time.
The innovation of the colorfast, lightfast and abrasion-resistant color completely avoids these disadvantages. The B. cloth has a radiant appearance thanks to the real colors. A completely new visual impression is created.

2. Finishing

The thickness is responsible for the aesthetic impairment of the B. cloth - white pressure marks and "white grooves". When you apply pressure to a ball using the cue, part of the pressure goes towards the slate and thus onto the B. cloth. The previously invisible thickness is made visible by the pressure on the ball.
The "white groove" is created by the endless braking and acceleration of the balls at the base of the rubber bands. This frequent friction makes the sprayed-on starch visible.

The fundamental innovation is to avoid the starchy finish by applying an impregnation.
The materials specified have three positive effects on the B. cloth:

A) Chalk-resistant (easy to clean)

B) Extending tee-off rails (smooth surface).
Increasing the speed of the ball.

Increasing the spin effect.

C) Due to the rising heat of the heater, the B. cloth stretches itself.

The disadvantages of the finish mentioned above are completely eliminated by the new material when the B. table is used normally.

3. Density

During assembly, the B. cloth is stretched to the utmost on the slate and on the rubber bands. The fabric is pulled apart and the yarn is exposed to rapid wear, particularly on the edges of the rubber bands.

The density of the fabric is a decisive factor for the general durability on the one hand and the sporting usability of the tee-off, speed and spin effect on the other.

The maximum density improves both of these factors significantly.

4. Fully twisted

The well-known B. cloth is made of weaving yarn.

The innovation of using two-ply yarn to produce a B. cloth has two advantages:

A) Several multi-twisted threads are much more resilient than the usual weaving yarn. This has a positive effect when using the B. cloth, especially on the rubber band edges.

B) The tensile strength of the B. cloth when mounted on the B. table is greatly increased.

Summary :

The many innovations in billiard cloth eliminate all deficiencies that were thought to be ineradicable.

The sporting and technical usability of the new billiard cloth is quite extraordinary over a long period of time.

The usage time of the new billiard cloth can be doubled with normal play.
