Collective packaging for Hagnetbands wound on cores

The innovation relates to a packaging for several tape-shaped recording media wound on winding cores or spools provided with internal bores, consisting of plastic pallets and, if necessary, hubs raised in the middle of the axle, the diameter of which corresponds to the clear inner diameter of the bores of the winding cores and where the packaging can be closed by means of a shrink film that can be pulled over it.

Magnetic tape factories worldwide sell so-called raw material packaging. In these, the magnetic tape is wound onto cores, for example flangeless winding cores (either the so-called NAB cores or stackable winding cores according to DE 24 48 853 or others). These so-called pancakes are currently either individually packaged or shrunk into bulk containers or held in various cardboard boxes. Such packaging is known from DE 26 55 254.

The disadvantage of the collective packaging described above is that the magnetic tapes are not optimally protected, even though the outer layers are protected by Styrofoam plates and the stacked pancakes are sealed with shrink wrap. The following errors can occur during storage or transport:

which, when the two halves of the pallet are put together, complement each other to form a window (9). On the outer surfaces of the broad sides, the pallets have material thinnings with spoke-shaped reinforcements (12) in between, which start from the center of the axle (10), as is already known from the prior art. According to Figures 2 and 3, the pallets (1, 2) have pins (15) and holes (16) assigned to them on the corners of their inner sides for engaging with each other when the two halves are put together.

The interior of the pallet (Figure 2) is essentially modelled on the shape of the tape roll, either plate-shaped with a central support surface (14) for the winding cores (6) similar to the aforementioned DE 26 55 254 or with contact surfaces (11) at the corners of the pallet. Furthermore, the support surfaces (13) of the tape rolls (5) wound on the winding cores (6) can be tapered outwards in a conical shape as in the aforementioned OE-GM 89 00 709 (Figure 3), whereby in the shrunk state of the packaging the tape roll rests completely on the support surface.

A key part of the innovation is that the pallet has groove-like notches (7) on its outer edges. These have a multiple purpose. Firstly, after the stacked pancakes (5) have been placed on a pallet (1), a core support (3) has been pushed through and the other pallet (2) has been closed, the shrink film (4) can be shrunk on. The weld seam (8) of the shrink film sits in one of the notches (7) so that no damage can occur to neighboring packages when they are put together to form larger transport containers. Secondly, the notches serve as gripping recesses for lifting the packaging out by the processor either by hand or with a two-armed gripper, which

engages in two adjacent grooves (7). The grooves (7) also serve as indexing for automatic filling of the pallets with the pancakes and for venting after shrinking the film (4).

The new packaging offers further advantages:

- thanks to the sturdy design, several packaging containers can be stacked on a transport pallet, for example five on top of each other, whereby an intermediate layer can be inserted between the individual containers if necessary

- the packaging and transport of larger pancake diameters (up to 14 - 16 inches) are possible

- by dimensioning the pallets accordingly, pancakes with cores of different thicknesses can be produced

Packaging for several tape-shaped recording media (5) wound on winding cores (6) or spools provided with internal bores, consisting of plastic pallets (1, 2) and, if appropriate, hubs (3) raised in the center of the axle (10), the diameter of which corresponds to the clear internal diameter of the bores of the winding cores (6) and wherein the packaging can be closed by a shrink film (4) that can be pulled over it, characterized in that the cuboid-shaped pallets (1, 2) that can be joined together have groove-like notches (7) on their edges, that the interior of the pallets is modeled on the external shape of the pancakes (5), that the weld seam (8) of the shrink film (4) is formed in one of the notches (7). 2. Packaging according to claim 1, characterized in that the pallets (1, 2) have window-like cutouts (9) on their four narrow sides. 3.
