Folding box as display container

The invention relates to a drop box made of cardboard, corrugated cardboard or the like as a display container open on at least one side for accommodating several stacked objects, with a cardboard box body having box walls, wherein at least two box walls are connected at their lower edge with bottom flaps angled towards the bottom, and with at least one base plate which is folded up at its edge facing the open side and folded over lateral insertion flaps which are hinged to the adjacent box walls.

Such folding boxes used as display containers are usually made from a one-piece blank, with the base plate being hinged to the lower edge of one box wall, usually the back wall of the box. The base flaps folded inwards from the two box side walls can extend together over the entire width of the base and can also be connected to one another in a snap-fit manner.

Since the base plate of the known folding box is hinged to the lower edge of the rear wall, the one-piece cut deviates significantly from a rectangular shape, so that a significant loss of material occurs during the production of the cut due to waste pieces. This

Material losses are particularly significant in the case of smaller folding boxes, where the blank part forming the box body does not largely take up the entire width of the available material web.

The object of the invention is therefore to design a folding box of the type mentioned at the beginning in such a way that a particularly good utilization of material can be achieved. The folding box should also be easy to set up, without the need for a tool or an adhesive process. When set up, the folding box should offer good cohesion so that even a stack of heavier objects can be safely accommodated. This applies in particular to applications in which a pallet is arranged under the bottom of the box.

This object is achieved according to a first embodiment of the invention in that the base plate is a separate part from the box body and that an inner box base is hinged to its edge facing away from the open side.

Since the base plate is not made in one piece with the box body, it can be laid out in the cut in such a way that optimum material utilization is achieved. In particular, the base plate with the box inner base hinged to it can be laid out in the cut to the side next to the cut part forming the box body. This is particularly advantageous if it allows the width of the available material web to be utilized to the greatest extent possible.

It is known (DE-PS 26 33 642) to make the base plate separate from the body of the box and to provide it with a hinged inner base. This folding box, which is not of the same type, has

According to another embodiment of the same inventive concept, it is provided that the side insertion tabs are not hinged to the side walls of the box, but to the two side edges of the folded-up front edge strip of the base plate; a front, height-shortened edge of the associated side wall is folded around these insertion tabs. The base plate is also a separate part from the box body; the box's inner base is hinged to its edge facing away from the open side.

This creates an even more open display container, which also has the double box base with a smooth inner base surface.

In both embodiments, in an advantageous embodiment of the inventive concept, it can be provided that the inner base of the box is essentially the same size as the base plate and that the base tabs are inserted from two opposite sides between the base plate and the inner base of the box.

According to a further modified embodiment of the same inventive concept, it is provided that the base plate is a separate part from the box body, that the folding box is open at its front and at its back, and that the two opposite side walls are separate parts and are each connected to a vertical strip on the front and at the back, from which an insertion tab extends at the bottom, over which the front and rear folded-up edges of the base plate are folded over.

This embodiment of the folding box according to the invention offers the advantage of particularly good accessibility of the objects accommodated therein. In addition, the cut parts forming the two side walls are separated from one another and inserted at the side. While retaining these side folding box parts, folding boxes of different widths can be achieved by using bases of different widths. This makes it possible to achieve very different packaging tasks using the same means of adaptation.

The folding box shown in Fig. 1 and 2 has a box body 1 which consists of two at least approximately vertical box walls 2 and a rear wall 3. From these box walls 2, 3, which can be vertical or conical, bottom flaps 4, 5 are angled at the lower edge towards the bottom.

A base plate 6, which can also form the upper plate of a pallet 7, only indicated in Fig. 1, is connected at its rear edge in an articulated manner to an inner box base 8, which is folded from above onto the base plate 6 when the folding box is erected in the manner indicated in Fig. 2.

On its front edge facing the opening of the display container, the base plate 6 has a folded-up front edge strip 9 which is folded over lateral insertion tabs 10 which are hinged to the adjacent box side walls 2. The base tabs 4 of the side walls 2 are inserted from opposite sides between the base plate 6 and the box inner base 8, which is essentially the same size as the base plate 6. The base tab 5 of the rear wall 3 lies above the box inner base 8 or below the base plate 6.

Fig. 3 shows the arrangement of the cut parts forming the box body 1 and the base parts 6, 8 in the cut, where fold lines are shown with dot-dash lines. It can be seen that the cut is almost rectangular, so that only very little material loss occurs. The one insertion flap 10 can protrude into the box inner base 8 and be cut out of it at the side, so that the two separate cut parts can be arranged directly next to each other.

The embodiment of a folding box shown in Fig. 4 differs from the embodiment according to Figs. 1 to 3 essentially in that lateral insertion tabs 11 are hinged to the two side edges of the folded front edge strip 9 of the base plate 6 and extend backwards in the plane of the side walls 2. The shortened edge 12 of the respective side wall 2 relative to the side wall 2 is folded inwards around this insertion tab 11.

In this way, a display container is created that is opened to a much greater extent than the embodiment according to Figs. 1 to 3, in which the inner box base 8 is also connected to the base plate 6 and is essentially the same size.

The folding box shown in Fig. 5 forms a display container that is open at the front and back. The cut parts forming the two side walls 2 are separated from each other and from the base plate 6.

The two opposing side walls 2 are each connected to a vertical wall strip 13, 14 on the front and rear. From these wall strips 13, 14, an insertion tab 15 extends at the bottom, over which the front folded-up edge 9 and the rear folded-up edge 9' of the base plate 6 are folded over. The base tab 4 connected to the side wall 2 lies on the base plate 6.

If folding boxes of different widths are to be produced, it is sufficient to provide base plates 6 of different widths, whereby, however, the parts forming the side walls 2 can be kept unchanged.
