Packaging for containers on trays

The present invention relates to a packaging for containers on so-called trays.

Such trays represent an attractive form of presentation of, for example, cuboid-shaped packaged goods, such as detergents and the like. The manufacturer places the containers on the tray, which usually has a base made of cardboard and a surrounding edge that encloses the goods, and then provides them with packaging that secures the goods and at the same time connects them to the tray*

The present invention has set itself the task of finding a packaging that is as cost-effective as possible and at the same time stable and can be applied by machine and that leaves the trays in an undamaged and therefore customer-pleasing condition after they have been removed.

The solution to this problem consists in a packaging for containers on trays, which overlaps the containers and can be fastened to the tray, which differs from the prior art in that it consists of a blank with a roof surface, which preferably rests on the containers, as well as side surfaces adjoining these, and which has wings that reach down to the tray edges, whereby the wings and/or the side surfaces have tear tabs arranged parallel to the tray edges and recesses associated with them, and whereby the connection between the tray and the packaging can be made with the help of point bonding or one or more tearable adhesive tapes.

In the simplest case, the packaging consists of a so-called half-fold box, which is pre-glued on the sides and where the head flaps are glued to the top of the trays before being applied.

The tear tabs are preferably located on the narrow front sides. The packaging is attached to its tray in the area of the acid blisters so that after these have been removed, the top of the packaging can be lifted off.

If adhesive tape is chosen as a fastening means, these are torn off together with the tear tabs, once along their upper perforation and the other along the lower edge of the upper part of the packaging or the lower edge of the tray. Since the adhesive tape turns 90° here, a clean tear is achieved in particular at this point, so that the trays can be placed on shelves together with their packaging for sale.

The recesses on or between the tabs are used to grasp them with the human hand; the use of a separate tool is advantageously not necessary.

When using adhesive dots, these connect the top of the packaging and the trays, whereby hot melt adhesive can be used, for example.

The adhesive tape is preferably made of paper with a layer of glue, as this tears off particularly well, i.e. without leaving any residue. The adhesive tape is simply guided over the tray base, connecting opposing tabs. The opening can be made easier by a vent opening. In this way, pairs of trays arranged next to one another can also be placed in a common upper part of the packaging.

j A special solution is also seen in the fact that the wings are divided and each of these is diagonally opposite and wider than the adjacent one and that the tear tabs assigned to the wider wings can be attached to two adjacent trays and the tabs assigned to the narrower one can only be attached to one tray.

There are two xF'ays of white on the side facing each other and the tear tab and the part of the wider wing above it bridge the stop between the two trays.

The tear tabs of the wider wings are each provided with two adhesive points, which are pressed onto the tray edges on both sides of the joint and glued to them.

The upper wing parts can be secured with adhesive tape, for example.

The resulting composite is surprisingly stable and safe for transport, with only six adhesive points for two standard trays filled with dishwasher or washing powder boxes.

2When opened, the tear tabs are separated from the wings and the adhesive dots along prefabricated tear edges, so that the packaging can be lifted off the tray at an edge.

Only small adhesive dots remain on the tray edges, which are visually insignificant and do not aesthetically affect the presented goods.

To make it easier to tear open, it is suggested to shorten one of the tabs, creating a recess opposite the leading edge of the wing, which can be more easily reached with the fingers or a tool in order to tear off the tabs.

The edge along which the flap is separated from the wings is made of a groove that supports precise tearing and consists of perforations and webs in a conventional manner. Surprisingly, this is sufficiently tensile so that the assembly can be carried in the packaging without any problem.

Wai'ii. This can be prevented by applying a separating layer on the cardboard between it and the adhesive.

A less complex solution according to the invention consists in making U-shaped cutouts in the tear tabs at the locations of the adhesive dots. The legs of the cutout end at the transverse groove.

When the tear tabs are removed, these lenses remain on the trays with clean cut edges, thus ensuring an attractive appearance.

Finally, the cutting according to the invention also offers the formation of flaps on the roof surface, which are exactly as long as the wider wing, so that no material loss occurs due to waste.

After the sides and wings have been bent, the flaps are placed on the wings and glued to them, which stiffens the entire packaging and enables the packaged goods to be well protected even when the cardboard box is thin.

In Fig. 1, the upper part of the packaging is shown as a half-folding box, which can be placed over the tray 5 and the goods contained therein.

On the front wings 7, between the recesses 11, there are tear tabs 9, the upper edges of which have grooves, cuts or similar perforations 14, along which the tearing takes place in a straight line.

Adhesive tapes 16 are placed over the bottom of the tray 5 and can end at the tear tab or, as shown, the top and hold the entire assembly.

The basic design of the packaging according to the invention is shown in Fig. 2. It consists of the central roof surface 1 and the flaps 13 adjoining it in the longitudinal direction. The side surfaces 3 adjoin this transversely, which are arranged laterally to carry the wings 7 and 8.

The cut is asymmetrical, ie the wings 8 are wider than the wings 7 and overlap the longitudinal axis of the roof surface when folded in .

Tear tabs 9 and 10 are molded onto the wings using a perforation 14 to make it easier to separate them, one of the tear tabs 10 of which is shortened compared to the leading edge of the wings and forms a recess 11. Of course, this can also be arranged on the tear tab 9. (The wings can also be designed symmetrically.)

The dotted line 15 represents a pre-formed bending edge in a known manner.

Fig. 3 shows how this blank is formed into packaging. To do this, the side surfaces 3 are first bent at 90° from the roof surface and then the wings 7 and 8 are folded inwards. The flap 13 is placed on the latter and glued. This creates a hood-shaped packaging that is open at the bottom and is put over the two trays 5, 6 in Fig. 5. These consist of a base opposite the roof surface 1 with a surrounding vertical tray edge 4 that surrounds the goods in containers 2.

The trays abut one another at their narrow edges. Adhesive dots 15 are applied to these, namely two in the tray 6 facing the shorter tear tab 10 and one in the area of the longer tear tab 9, so that the longer tear tab is glued to both trays and holds them together horizontally and the shorter one is only connected to the remaining outer adhesive dot.

Fig. 4 and 5 show the finished packaging with the roof surface, the flaps 13, the wings 7 and 8, the associated tear tabs 9 and 10 as well as the side surface 3 and the creasing 14. The tabs are grasped within the recess 11 and torn along the creasing 14 and separated from the adhesive points located underneath, as indicated by the arrows*. Choice of adhesive or protection of the inner surface of the tear tabs using a coating that facilitates separation, e.g. made of plastic film, on the trays 5 and 6 only the adhesive dots 15 remain.
