The invention relates to a sponge for cleaning and wiping smooth surfaces, consisting of a sponge body which is provided with a chamois leather or window fleece on at least one surface.

According to the current state of the art, when cleaning smooth surfaces, for example glass panes, tiles, window frames, varnished furniture or the like, a cleaning sponge is first used to remove coarse dirt.

According to the state of the art, it is also known to cover the surface of a cleaning sponge completely or partially with a chamois leather or window fleece in order to be able to use it to wipe the surfaces to be cleaned. However, such sponge-chamois leather combinations have not proven themselves in practice because the chamois leather or window fleece is no longer sufficiently dry after a very short time to be able to work without leaving streaks.

It is therefore the object of the invention to further develop the combination of sponge and chamois leather mentioned at the beginning so that it is also suitable for leathering larger areas.

To solve this problem, the invention proposes, starting from a sponge of the type mentioned at the beginning, that the sponge body consists of fine-pored foam, in particular of polyvinyl alcohol (PVAl). Such a sponge body made of fine-pored foam, in particular of polyvinyl alcohol, is characterized by the fact that it has an extremely high absorbency and does not drip. This extremely high
Absorbency means that when the chamois leather or window fleece is wiped, the cleaning fluid is immediately and intensively absorbed by the sponge body. This keeps the chamois leather or window fleece so dry that the surface treated with it is free of streaks and smears.

A useful development of the sponge according to the invention provides that the sponge body made of fine-pored foam is covered on the side facing away from the chamois leather or window fleece with a sponge body made of medium- or large-pored foam, in particular viscose foam, with a water-impermeable barrier layer being arranged between the sponge body made of fine-pored foam and the sponge body made of medium- or large-pored foam. This water-impermeable barrier layer prevents the extremely absorbent sponge body made of fine-pored foam from sucking the cleaning fluid out of the medium- or large-pored sponge body, so that this side of the sponge can be used with a large excess of cleaning fluid, which is important for removing coarse dirt.

The sponge shown in Fig. 1 has a _cuboid- shaped sponge body 1, which consists of an extremely fine-cell foam, in particular of polyvinyl alcohol (PVAl). This sponge body 1 is covered on one side with a chamois leather or window fleece 2, which is connected to the sponge body 1.
