Description
It is already known to produce dental drills in which the drill head is made of hard metal and is soldered to the so-called neck. The neck and the shaft consist of a single piece of ordinary steel. A disadvantage of the above drill is, however, that the neck of the often prolonged life of the drill head 1 does not correspond to, but prior to being worn by the enamel layer of the teeth long. Hardened steel can of course not be compared with hard metal in terms of durability under any circumstances; furthermore, it is difficult to harden the neck effectively without damaging the solder joint and the hard metal head. For this reason, the neck has not been sufficiently hardened, especially in its outer part adjoining the drill head.
Another difficulty has been finding a joint between the neck and the drill head provide that was able to withstand the stresses occurring. To a joint with ^ To obtain sufficient strength, it has been found necessary that the joint surface covers the whole Back or the greater part of it includes. As a result, the rear edge of the drill head or a part of the back of which is made of softer material, thereby increasing the performance of the drill is worsened, not just by the fact that the softer parts in and of themselves quickly become blunt, but also because these parts form blunting edges, so to speak, which prevent the full utilization of nearby sharp carbide cutters. This is a particularly great inconvenience because it is desirable to have with many dental procedures working on the back of the drill, which has been almost impossible with such drills.
The mentioned inconveniences could of course be avoided by making drills, which consisted exclusively of hard metal in a single piece. But this results in more Disadvantages such as greater consumption of the expensive hard metal and a time-consuming and expensive one Ribbons.
According to the invention, the above-mentioned disadvantages are eliminated in that the head and the The neck of the dental drill can be made from cemented carbide in a single piece by brazing or welding attached to a shaft of more machinable material.
In the drawing, FIGS. 1 to 3 show different embodiments that differ from one another only differ in relation to the fastening of the neck in the shaft.
According to FIG. I, the neck is attached to the end of the shaft with a flat solder joint 2. According to FIG. 2, the neck is sunk somewhat into the shaft, a conical solder joint 8 being formed between the parts mentioned. Finally, according to FIG. 3, the end of the shaft is provided with a bore, the diameter of which is somewhat larger than the end of the neck to be fastened, so that this end is surrounded on all sides by soldering metal 9 as a result of the soldering.
As the drawing illustrates, the solder joint or weld area between the neck and the stem significantly larger than a corresponding area between the neck and the Drill head, which creates a more reliable connection.
